Record 2023 for foldables, but Samsung is losing its monopoly

Forecasts say that in Q4 2023 sales of the entire sector will drop by -35% compared to Q3 but will still remain higher than last year, rising by + 47 % reaching 3,6 million units. As always since they existed, Samsung is the strongest brand in Europe in the folding sector, holding 72% of the sector, but still recorded a decline of -86% compared to the previous year due to the competition, especially from Huawei e Honor, at 9% and 8% respectively.

Precisely due to the rivalry of Chinese brands, Samsung is expected to go from 83% in Q4 2022 to 42% in Q4 2023, also because of lower sales than expected for Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. Conversely, Huawei should rise to the 21% e Honor al 19%, with models such as the Mate X5 and Magic V2 expected to establish themselves as the second and third best-selling models after the Z Flip 5, even surpassing the Z Fold 5.
