It has been talked about far and wide in recent months, and today I'm here: in addition to the Book 3 laptop, Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 + e S23Ultra are the three new top of the range with which the Korean brand officially opens the year. Since the first rumors, it was understood that the latest generation triptych would not have distorted what was seen with the S22 series, focusing instead on improving its characteristics. Also because, after years and years, this time even here in Italy the Samsung flagships are based on Qualcomm chipsets: let's see all the news.
Samsung officially launches the Galaxy S23 series: all the news
Available in Phantom Black, Cream, Green and Lavender colors, the lines of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series have been cleaned up, eliminating the protruding photographic module in favor of three sensors set in the glass-protected body Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and certification IP68. Samsung's work of resizing curved screens continues, which with the S23 series uses less rounded panels than in the past; on S23 Ultra we find the appreciated slot to host the S Pen, confirming itself as a worthy heir to the now defunct Galaxy Note series. Samsung has made S23 with a greater eye on sustainability: more recycled materials for aluminum, glass and plastic than S22, and a packaging in 100% recycled paper, complete with UL Ecologist certification.
The diagonals of the screens do not change, which on S23 and S23+ are from 6,1 " e 6,6 " with resolution Full HD +; are two panels with technology Dynamic AMOLED 2x, with dynamic refresh rate from 48 to 120 Hz and 240Hz touch sampling in Gaming mode. For the Ultra model, the screen switches to a 6,8” QHD+ with a finer refresh rate, from 1 to 120 Hz. On the software side, the Enhanced Comfort and Vision Booster features allow you to better adjust brightness, colors and contrast to reduce eye strain at night.
As anticipated, one of the main novelties of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series is the introduction of the exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, custom made by Qualcomm for Samsung. Compared to the standard Snap 8 Gen 2, it has a more powerful CPU, whose maximum clock rises from 3,2 to 3,36 GHz. According to Samsung, then, the AI and graphics performance offered by the S23 Ultra are 40% faster, thanks also to the real-time support of ray-tracing and the presence of a vapor chamber cooling system. Power is supplied by three batteries 3.900, 4.700 e 5.000 mAh, with charging support from 25 on the basic model and from 45 on the more expensive ones; for all three, the charger is not in the box and there is also reverse wireless charging. Connectivity includes 5G support, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Another important novelty is represented by the software, which Samsung underlines guarantee 4 generations of Android updates and 5 years of security patches. We arrive at the strong point of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, or the photographic sector. Both S23 and S23+ have a triple camera 50 + 12 + 10 MP, including 120° ultra-wide angle and 3x optical zoom. The 12MP selfie camera captures faster autofocus and sharper video at 60fps. The real showpiece is the S23 Ultra, which boasts the new Samsung ISOCELL HP2 da 200 MP, an Adaptive Pixel sensor that was created with the aim of improving zoom and night photos. Tetra²pixel technology ensures that all those pixels are used to take photos with 16MP 1-in-12,5 Pixel Binning at 2,4μm sensitivity. Its new features include fast Super QPD autofocus, OIS stabilization with doubled stability in all directions, and 8K video at 30 fps with a wider viewing angle. Hardware aside, the software novelties include the function nightography with transformative AI; the latter function uses a new algorithm that processes the data acquired by the ISP to correct noise and improve details and colors. Thanks to the One UI 5.1 update, then, access to the Expert RAW app has been made even more simplified. Furthermore, the combination with the Galaxy Watch series allows the zoom from a smartwatch and with Galaxy Buds 2 Pro the 360 Audio Recording with multidimensional sound.
So let's talk about prices, because in Italy Samsung Galaxy S23 starts from €979 for the 128GB variant, going up to €1.229 for S23+ up to €1.479 of S23 UItra, both available starting no longer from 128 GB but from 256 GB. Until February 16, buying the most expensive versions of the new smartphones will entitle you to a refund of €60 for the 23 GB S256, €120 for the 23 GB S512+, €180 for the 23 GB S512 Ultra and €240 for the 1TB variant.
