Realme 10 Pro + review: it will all depend on the price

If in recent years an average user was looking for an inexpensive smartphone, with a design tending towards "premium", a decent camera and good autonomy, almost automatically one of the options he should evaluate would be a Realme.

The brand has long since consolidated its importance in the market (and the appreciation of users), continuing to produce good quality smartphones sold at more than reasonable prices. And it is a strategy that we also find in the new Realme 10 Pro +, what we could define as the successor to the Realme 9 Pro+ (here the review), which we greatly appreciated last year, and which (although it hasn't been made official in Italy yet) we had the opportunity to try just to be able to understand the work done by the brand to keep the bar of value for money high.

Design and materials

Available in 3 colors (Hyperspace, Nebula Blue and Dark Matter), the design of the realme 10 Pro + makes the new smartphone simple but elegant at the same time. The sample we received for testing is in the Nebula Blue color, and at first glance it immediately reminded me of the smartphones that Huawei produced a few years ago. And I like it, it has a great touch and feel and it doesn't suffer from dust or fingerprints at all.

The rear shell is made of plastic, but gives the feeling that a frosted glass has been used, and makes the realme 10 Pro + decidedly light: with its 173 grams of weight and 7.78 millimeters of thickness, it is really comfortable to handle.

This feeling of thinness is highlighted even more by the contoured edges, unfortunately, however, it is not a smartphone certified to resist water and dust. Before then, the display is protected by a double reinforced glass which, however, at least according to the statements of the brand during the presentation phase is not a Corning Gorilla Glass: poco bad, because the company guarantees that the screen can withstand falls of about one meter without breaking, but it's something I'm not in a hurry to try.

What left me a little perplexed are the dimensions of the two rear camera bumps which, yes, right off the bat they might seem a little too small compared to the dimensions of the smartphone, but all in all the realme 10 Pro + it is promoted with full marks in terms of design and construction, despite not having introduced any significant innovations.

Display

What is really relevant though is the screen. The panel is a 6.7-inch AMOLED with FullHD + resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. And unlike what we saw with the realme 9 Pro +, it has curved side edges: if we want to be honest, realme 10 Pro + it is one of the few smartphones in its price range to integrate this feature.

The touch sampling is 360 Hz, while the declared peak brightness is 800 nits: a value that we also found in our tests, and which makes the realme 10 Pro + one of the smartphones with the brightest display in its price range.

In short, without dragging it too long, the screen of the realme 10 Pro + it is among the best panels that I have been able to try in devices sold in this price range: the blacks are deep, the color balance is well done, the saturation is vivid but not excessive, the only comment I feel do concerns the frames which are perhaps a little too intrusive. But it would be nice if all budget smartphones should use this panel.

Hardware and Performance

Before talking about hardware and performance, a premise must be made: Mediatek has generated an absurd confusion with its SoCs and with realme 10 Pro + we have a striking example of this. But let me explain. When the smartphone was presented in China, it was declared as one of the first smartphones to use the Mediatek Dimensity 1080. Beautiful, you will say, but for the Global version the brand has well thought of producing its new smartphone with a Dimensity 920. And this is where the messes start.

And do you know why? Because the two SoCs are practically identical, but with a single difference: the Dimensity 920 is a 6nm octa core with a clock frequency of 2,5 GHz, while the Dimensity 1080 is a 6nm octa core with a clock frequency of 2,6GHz.

In a nutshell? It does not change anything. You can also notice these non-differences from the tables you see above where, among other things, you can not only notice that in terms of performance they are on the same level, but also all the other hardware components are the same.

For example, they have the same Mali-G68MC GPU, have the same TDP of 10, support the same maximum amount of RAM memory. In short, they made a "cinesata", and I ask your forgiveness for using this term.

Anyway, the way I see it realme 10 Pro + has the same good performance that we found in the realme 9 Pro +, which means that the smartphone is able to handle all daily tasks without any problem: it will be very rare to find yourself facing slowdowns, micro-lag of the graphical interface or situations unpleasant situations where your smartphone may seem slow.

And it's the same in games too: realme 10 Pro + it is able to reproduce practically all the games in circulation with decent framerates and details, even the most complex ones, with which, however, it will be necessary to pay attention to the level of detail set.

The audio in the capsule is good, reception on WiFi 6 networks is excellent, the stereo audio is not bad, which is guaranteed by a lower speaker and which uses the ear capsule and which has a good spatial effect, even if the frequencies tend a little ' too high.

NFC is present and integrates an excellent fingerprint sensor under the screen, but what improves significantly compared to the previous generation is the haptic feedback system which, even if it does not yet reach the levels of the top of the range, is the best that you can find in this price range.

Camera

The cameras of realme 10 Pro + they are three. The main one is from well 108 megapixels ƒ / 1.8, and is flanked by an 8 megapixel wide angle ƒ/2.2 and a small 2 megapixel ƒ/2.4 for macro. Now, leaving out the uselessness of the macro camera, which it really is poco relevant in my opinion, the other two are quite interesting but it must be said that the qualitative gap between the main camera and the ultra wide angle one is very marked.

The images taken with the main camera take advantage of all 108 megapixels of the sensor and the aperture of the lens allow it to produce well-balanced shots, with good management of the dynamic range and rich in detail. The high resolution yields decent shots even at zooms up to 3x, but don't expect lossless zooms here.

Even in night shots the main camera of the realme 10 Pro + performs quite well, and is able to take photographs with good detail, with poco noise and batter and very rare blur.

Things change profoundly when using the wide-angle camera which, in my opinion, should only be used during the day. But even in good light conditions the difference with the main one is remarkable. The management of the dynamic range is not at the levels of the main optics, it could happen that you notice small chromatic aberrations along the edges of the photos, and in the preview the difference in the management of the color balance is also evident. Fortunately, however, here the software comes into play which tends to balance all the factors to a certain extent, generating decidedly enjoyable images also thanks to a good HDR.

At night though, the wide angle is certainly not the camera capable of producing the best shots. Although the mode suitable for low brightness is activated, the shots taken in these conditions are in line with the price range of the device, which means that they certainly do not leave a miracle and are rather dark.

The 16 megapixel front camera is average, the videos are not bad even if in my opinion it would always be better to record them in FullHD at 30 fps, also because it is the only mode in which the wide angle can also be used. Going up in resolution, i.e. going to FullHD at 60 fps or 4K at 30 fps (this is the maximum that the smartphone can do), not only will you be able to use only the main camera but, given the poor stabilization, especially in moving pans fast the realme 10 Pro + may have some fluidity issues.

Software

As for software, realme 10 Pro + it is the company's first smartphone to arrive on the market animated by Android 13 and the Realme UI 4.0. It is an extremely fluid graphic interface, which integrates some very interesting new features. New Always-On Displays have been introduced, there is a Shelf for “OnePlus” style widgets, and a new sidebar has been integrated with which YouTube audio can be played in the background.

The home also changes, which can now integrate larger folders and a new process manager has also been introduced, with which the user will be able to understand in a much simpler and more intuitive way which applications are the most affecting on battery life.

Battery autonomy and charging

The huge 5000 mAh battery then guarantees the realme 10 Pro + really excellent autonomy. We know Mediatek's SoC well and we know how balanced it is in terms of energy efficiency and temperature management, and I am convinced that a "traditional" user, i.e. one who does not continuously stress the smartphone, could get two days of battery life without too many hitches.

The presence of the 67w quick charge is excellent but, given the price range, realme 10 Pro + it does not integrate any wireless charging technology.

How to buy realme 10 Pro + in Italy and conclusions

Despite the Global version of the realme 10 Pro + has been made official, at the time of the review we do not yet know when it will officially arrive in Italy and what the relative selling price will be. If we were to go by the price of the previous generation, realme 10 Pro + it could cost around 399,00 euros but, considering last year's increases, the figure is likely to be slightly higher.

Review Realme 10 Pro+ Plus price performance camera features which to choose where to buy italy vs battery

And here is the greatest difficulty of this review: not knowing what the official price will be in Italy, it is difficult to sum up with the realme 10 Pro +. If the requested figure should remain unchanged compared to the previous generation, however, the realme 10 Pro + it could be one of the most interesting smartphones and the first "best-buy" candidate of this 2023: the display is exceptional, it has excellent autonomy and the software never slows down and is very complete.

Too bad only for the gap between the main camera and the wide-angle one, which remains of good quality but is significantly lower than the 108 megapixel one. On the presence of the macro, let me tell you: I would have preferred to see realme 10 Pro + with only two cameras and sold at a less expensive price for the eventual “elimination” of the macro.

Because, let's face it, it's really useless.
