With the announcement of Qualcomm's latest flagship chipset, the Chinese brand wasted no time and revealed the new Red magic 8 pro e 8 Pro +, or the first gaming phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: here are all the novelties of the range between design, technical specifications, price and market release.
Red Magic 8 Pro and 8 Pro+: everything you need to know
Design and display
As for the generations 7 e 7S we have two models: Red magic 8 pro and brother 8 Pro+. The official images published by the brand show us a gaming smartphone characterized by a peculiar but typical aesthetic for its category.
On the other hand, the decidedly accentuated squared shapes are new; also returns the camera under the display seen on board the predecessor. There is also a version with a semi-transparent body (only for the Pro+ model); in this case the fan of cooling, enriched with RGB LED lights (as per tradition).
For both smartphones we have a panel AMOLED da 6,8 "Full HD + (2480 x 1116 pixels) with refresh rate a 120 Hz and 960Hz touch sampling rate. The measurements are 163,98 x 76,35 x 8,9 mm for a weight of approximately 228 grams.
Technical specifications and features
The Red Magic 8 Pro data sheet is based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 by Qualcomm, Qualcomm home chipset produced a 4 nm from TSMC. We therefore have a very performing CPU a 3,2 GHz Cortex-X3 and Adreno 740 GPU, flanked by LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
For the Pro model we find configurations from 8 / 12 GB of RAM and 128 / 256 GB of storage space, while the big brother Pro+ is available in denominations from 12 / 16 GB of RAM and 256 / 512 GB e 1 TB of storage.
The smartphone also appeared on Geekbench with the first benchmarks even if there is an anomaly: the platform speaks of a model signed "xiaoniu XN729J", which obviously recalls the NX729J device certified by TENAA (Red Magic 8 Pro). The terminal shows itself on Geekbench with the Snap 8 Gen 2, 12 GB of RAM and Android 13.
Moving on to the rest of the specifications, there is also an advanced liquid cooling system, with the series' trademark fan support.
Furthermore, Red Magic has confirmed the presence of a battery from 6.000 mAh with quick charge from 80 for the 8 Pro model, while the 8 Pro+ version comes with a 5000 mAh with quick charge from 165 (against the 135W of the predecessor, which dropped to 65W in the Global model), such as also certified by 3C body previously.
On the software side we find Android 13 with Redmagic OS 6, while the photographic sector includes a triple camera 50 + 8 + 2 MP, with main sensor Samsung ISOCELL GN5 from 1/1.57″, ultra-wide angle and macro, as well as a selfie camera UDC from 16 MP.
Red magic 8 pro, moreover, it is equipped with a new ICE 11.0 cooling system with double 3D ice-level pump and vapor chamber from 2068 Millimeters cubes, one of the largest ever used by the Chinese company. An excellent solution to avoid overheating of the device during the long gaming sessions foreseen with this smartphone.
The chip Red Core R2 takes care of providing even better performance during the gaming session, optimally controlling the connections to the rear keys, vibration, touch control and sound effects to offer an even more immersive experience.

Red Magic 8 Pro and 8 Pro+ – Price and release
The series Red magic 8 pro offers the first top-of-the-range gaming smartphones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: they were officially presented on 26 December 2022, while the start of sales in China is scheduled for December 28th.
Pre-orders start at approx €540 (3999 yuan) for Red magic 8 prowhile for the version Pro + the starting price goes up to approx €700 (5199 yuan). At the moment there is no information or details for the global marketing of these two smartphones.
