Today we don't talk about technology in the way we are used to. We are not talking about smart devices, we are not talking about brands that are particularly well known by the masses and we are not talking about computers or software. However, we will talk about a category of products that, in fact, has been designed to produce everything that animates (also) the technology we deal with on a daily basis: wind turbines from home.
Yes, because although they are not born from a new concept (indeed, the first documented use of a wind wheel dates back to the first century by the Greeks), the recent demand for clean and renewable energies in recent times has brought new life to the popularity of wind turbines and solar panels, to the point of pushing some companies to produce models suitable for practically everyone, and which can be mounted even by those who do not know anything about this topic.
In short, whether they are installed on a boat, on a camper, or even on the roof or on the balcony of the house, these particular electricity generators are the miniaturized version of those huge structures that are seen in wind farms. But not all are the same, both in terms of performance and in terms of ease of assembly.
And for this, when Vevor suggested we try two of his wind turbines from home my curiosity immediately ignited and I started asking myself many questions: Will I be able to mount them by myself? How much energy do they produce? Can they also be mounted on a balcony?
I will try to answer these and other questions in this review: today we are talking about the 400w and 600w Vevor electric generators, two models that are easy to install and sold at a more than affordable price.

400w Vevor blade wind generator kit
Let's start with the smaller wind generator of the two we received on test. We are talking about the 400w model, which changes from the more powerful one in the structure and in a particular related to the assembly that it is good to take into consideration before purchasing.
As well as the 600w model, also the kit wind turbines from home 400w Vevor it generates electricity at 12V, so yes, if you need to exploit the energy produced with common household products that work at 220v, you will need an inverter.
In reality, however, I solved the problem by connecting the wind turbines to a BlitzWolf® BW-PG7, an energy accumulator that can also be recharged at 12v and integrates an inverter and a traditional 220v socket. But first things first.
Features and materials
Le wind turbines from home 400w Vevor it looks very similar to that of the wind turbines that we are used to seeing by now. The blades are three and are made of nylon fiber, while the tail is made of stainless steel. The whole structure then rests on a steel hub with which the device must be fixed to a pole, not included in the package.
Inside the 400w Vevor wind generator integrates a permanent magnet synchronous motor, with which it is able to generate three-phase electricity: as we will see, unlike the 600w model, this wind generator must be connected to an MPPT charge controller via 3 cables, but to this we we arrive.
The bearing is quite light, which allows the generator to rotate on the vertical axis at 360 °, in order to follow the direction of the wind quite effectively and, all in all, the bearing that allows the rotation of the blades is also quite sensitive. : I have a Netatmo weather station at home (here the review) with which I can also control the direction and speed of the wind, and which allowed me to see that the blades start spinning with an average speed of 2/3 meters per second.
Although it is quite simple to assemble, the process of assembling the 400w Vevor home wind turbines it is slightly more cumbersome than necessary for the 600w model. And not because all three blades will have to be fixed, but because this model uses an external charge controller, which comes in the box, but which will require the purchase of a skein of cable. To mount both blades, I purchased a 25-meter skein of 3 × 2.5 cable, a length more than enough for my needs, which must first be connected to the three, very short, cables that come out in the lower part of the wind kit.
It is then necessary to buy a pole, which does not come out in the package: the diameter must be about 6 cm and it must be empty inside. To make my life easier, I bought two poles for the garden lamps which, fortunately, are just the diameter needed to fix both blades. Here, however, you have to pay close attention to the length of the poles themselves: I personally took 2-meter poles because of the structure of a tent that I have on the balcony, but to ensure that a wind turbine gives its best, higher heights would be better.
In any case, once the cables have been connected to the shovel, passed inside the vertical pole and fixed the device at the upper end, it will then be necessary to connect the MPPT charging controller that comes out of the package. Basically 5 cables come out of the controller, three of which are blue and then 2 are the typical black and red. The scheme is simple: the three blue cables will be connected to the cables connected to the wind generator, while the red and black cables will go directly to the battery.
At this point there are two options to accumulate energy: use a device similar to the one I decided to connect myself (products that are very versatile, but have a rather high price and require the purchase of a female cigarette lighter adapter), or connect the controller to a typical lead-acid battery, which costs much less but is actually less versatile.
And this is it, as you will have understood the installation process is very simple, provided that you have already purchased everything you need. In summary, here's what I had to buy to assemble the 400w Vevor home wind turbines on my balcony:
- Empty pole of at least 2 meters and 6 cm in diameter;
- skein of cable 3 × 2.5;
- lead-acid battery or accumulator with integrated inverter.
When it comes to wind power, efficiency is one of those factors that depends a lot on the area where the generators are going to be installed. The 400w Vevor wind generator integrates a rather efficient generator, which is accompanied by a turbine that actually requires poco wind to start. Being able to automatically adjust the direction on the vertical axis is then much easier to capture the wind, but it is good to always keep in mind one thing with this type of device: the flow of energy generated is never constant over time, and voltage and amperage depend on the wind speed.
For this reason it is very important that you always use a charge controller, in order to avoid damaging the battery to which the wind blade is connected, and in this case it is a good thing that Vevor has included it in the package.
Anyway, I get to the point straight away: to make sure that the 400w Vevor home wind turbines produce the maximum energy that the turbine is able to generate, it is necessary that the wind is at least 15 meters per second, better still 20 meters per second.
In the area where I live I certainly do not have these problems, given the enormous amount of wind that circulates daily, but before buying such a product it is good to consider this factor, otherwise you would be disappointed.
Testing it in different weather conditions, I found that at full capacity (with a wind of about 25 meters per second) the 400w Vevor home wind turbines they are able to generate about 25 amps of energy, so the calculation is simple: multiplying the amperage by the voltage, we arrive at the result that the nominal power with a wind at about 25 meters per second is 300w.
And it is a pretty good result given the compact size of this wind generator which, however, must always be considered as not constant over time because it depends exclusively on the amount of wind available: in a nutshell, there may be times when the wind generator is not really in function, or others in which the blades will rotate but not at a speed sufficient to generate energy capable of recharging a battery.
600w Vevor vertical wind generator kit
Basically, the differences between the 400w model and the 600w model are not many: the structure changes, which in the more powerful model is vertical rotation, and the need to mount externally a charge controller is eliminated which, in wind turbines from home 600w Vevor it is already integrated.

Le wind turbines from home 600w Vevor aesthetically they are very different from what we have seen previously. The blades are five and are made of nylon fiber, but it has no tail for a very simple reason: it is a vertical wind turbine, whose blades rotate coplanar to the fixing axis. Also in this case the structure rests on a steel hub with which the device must be fixed to a pole, not included in the package and of the same diameter as that required for the 400w model.
Totally change the interior. The wind turbines from home 600w Vevor integrate a 2-phase PMG AC motor (therefore, in this case the necessary cables are two and not three) which, thanks to a microprocessor, is able to provide good efficiency even when the rotation torque is low and is able to to effectively regulate the current and voltage.
It is therefore not necessary to use an external controller, and the whole structure rests on a double bearing system that makes the movement of the blades much smoother than that seen in the 400w model. In a nutshell, given its structure 600w Vevor home wind turbines they tend to start spinning earlier than the less powerful version, and the five blades are able to catch the wind more effectively.
In my tests I found that the blades start spinning with a wind speed of about 2 meters per second, and this is also possible thanks to the size of the device: the diameter is 90 cm while the height is 60 cm.
I will not dwell much on the editing of the 600w Vevor wind generator because, as you will have understood by now, the procedure is practically identical to that required for the model we talked about previously. You need the same pole on which to fix it and it continues to be necessary to purchase a lead-acid battery or an accumulator with integrated inverter. However, the necessary cable changes: since this model integrates a charge controller and already comes out in 2 phases, it will not be necessary to purchase a 3 × 2.5 cable, but a 2 × 2.5.
Assembly is therefore very simple: once the cables have been connected to the blade, passed inside the vertical pole and the device is fixed at the upper end, the wind turbines from home 600w Vevor directly to the battery or accumulator that you have decided to use. Nothing is easier.
In summary, here's what you will need to purchase to mount the 600w Vevor wind generator:
- Empty pole of at least 2 meters and 6 cm in diameter;
- skein of cable 2 × 2.5;
- lead-acid battery or accumulator with integrated inverter.
With this model, the efficiency increases compared to the 400w one. And not only for the power of the turbine which is clearly greater, but above all thanks to the shape of the structure. This is the biggest point in favor of this model because, as I have already explained to you, eliminating the need to first rotate your structure according to the direction of the wind, and then rotate the blades, with the wind turbines from home 600w Vevor electricity generation starts earlier.
To make the 600w Vevor wind generator produces maximum energy, it is necessary that the wind is at least 12 meters per second, better still 20 meters per second, so you will notice how the combination of shape and more powerful turbine, make this model "more sensitive to the wind" compared to the 400w one.
From my tests, I found that at full capacity (with a wind of about 17 meters per second) the wind turbines from home 600w Vevor it is capable of generating approximately 40 amps of energy. And doing the solid amps x voltage calculation, the result is this: the rated power with a wind at about 20 meters per second is about 500w.
Here too, however, as in any wind generator, these values must always be considered as optimal, and will vary according to the instantaneous speed of the wind and the continuity of the air flow necessary to start rotating the blades.
So, with little misunderstanding, I repeat myself: there will certainly be moments in which the generator will not be in operation, or in which the blades will rotate but not at the speed necessary to charge a battery. In short, it all depends on the weather conditions and the windiness of the area where these devices will be mounted.
Selling price and considerations
The official selling price of the wind turbines from home 400w Vevor is € 149,99, while that of wind turbines from home 600w Vevor is 176,99 euros. Through the boxes that you will find below, however, you can buy both models at a discount thanks to two dedicated coupons: the 400w model will cost you 135,99 euros, while the 600w one will cost you 168,99 euros. Now, the question you are asking is this: Are these wind generators worth buying? It all depends on what you want to do with it. These are perfect products for boats and campers, able to give a good energy autonomy especially in very ventilated areas, but in my experience I understand they could also help at home, as long as you have a sufficiently ventilated balcony.
In the way I have mounted the generators, I can charge a 60000 mAh battery with which I can then power all my mobile devices or even a MacBook Pro for a few hours. Of course, these are off-grid products that do not make the house independent from an energy point of view, but they can offer good support for the power supply of all those not particularly energy-intensive products which, added to each other, have however, a good impact on the electricity bill.
