KOVOL Sprint GaN 140W power supply review: it can recharge everything… PC, smartphone and even game consoles!

Unboxing and packaging

KOVOL Sprint

The packaging of the GaN power supply KOVOL Sprint it is essential, but takes care of keeping the device firmly in the carton. Wrapped in a lightweight matte plastic for avoid scratches, the power supply comes accompanied by a simple pamphlet with the instructions for correct use. In fact, it is important to avoid exposing the device to temperatures that are too high, thus causing overheating.

Design and materials

KOVOL Sprint It is made of matte plastic material with fine workmanship. The device is certainly heavier than the classic smartphone power supplies, approx 340 grams, but the white color hides the scratches that will inevitably be created each time the cables are inserted into the USB sockets.

The KOVOL logo is shown at the bottom, tone on tone, on the single glossy part of the power supply, while the USB port use a bright shade of green to highlight the internal components. The feeder is also equipped with a LED blue which signals the correct functioning of the device.

If on the one hand the opaque white color hides any scratches, it also exposes the power supply to a normal graying, mainly given by fingerprints. In fact, the surface of the power supply does not appear to be particularly oleophobic.

Hardware and Performance

KOVOL Sprint is a power supply capable of charging USB-C equipped devices with a power of up to 140W. To achieve this speed, however, it should be noted that it is necessary to use a USB-C cable that supports this power (we recommend a cable that supports at least 100W).

The power supply is equipped with two different USB outputs: one of Type C with Power Delivery 3.1 capable of effectively generating the 140W recharge and a Type A that can recharge devices up to 18W. When both ports are in operation, the maximum charge drops to 122W for the USB-C port, while the maximum speed is maintained for the Quick Charge via USB Type A.

KOVOL Sprint

In our test, KOVOL Sprint managed to charge up to 80% a iPhone XR in just 45 minutes (again via USB-C cable), an excellent result considering both the age of the smartphone and the "non-support" for high charging speeds. We also conducted additional tests with some game consoles: Nintendo Switch didn't miss a beat, managing to load even during the game (not an easy task to complete with the Nintendo console), while Steam deck took full advantage of the 80W recharge (maximum allowed on the Valve console).

All this is possible thanks to technology GaNIII of this charger: thanks to the gallium nitride the device can achieve very high wattage in a compact form factorwhile keeping the overheating within the limits. In our test, in fact, the temperature has never been so high as to not be able to touch the charger, which instead happened in the experience of the writer (with other models).

KOVOL Sprint 140W Power Supply Review – Price and considerations

KOVOL Sprint it is certainly a premium product also in terms of price: on Amazon it is available, in fact, at the cost of €89. As we mentioned at the beginning, it is an uncompromising product, useful for those who don't want to rack their brains too much to have a charger capable of making the most of the supported power and speed of any device, provided that a USB-cable is used. C that supports it. We absolutely feel like recommend the purchase.
