Redmi Note 12 Pro: advantages (and disadvantages) of the Diamond Pixel display

Redmi Note 12 Pro amoled Diamond Pixel

During the presentation on stage, the Xiaomi management focused on explaining how the technology AMOLED has been implemented aboard the series Notes redmi 12 Pro. And not just any panel, but one of nature flexible, as opposed to the rigid one that we find on the basic model Redmi Note 12. If the latter is produced by Samsung Display, that of the most valuable models comes directly from the factories of the Chinese triptych consisting of TCL CSOT, Tianma and Visionox. For the occasion, technology was adopted Diamond Pixels: what is it?

Redmi Note 12 Pro has an AMOLED screen with Diamond Pixel structure: here's how it works

Premise: the Redmi Note 12 Pro series is not the first to use AMOLED screens with Diamond Pixel structure, far from it. This technology was designed by Samsung in 2014, when it debuted aboard the then flagship Galaxy S4. From that moment on, this technology has become inherent in all OLED panels produced by the South Korean company. Unlike previous screens, where the pixels have a square shape, here they have a rhomboid shape.

Another substantial difference lies in their arrangement: the Diamond matrix has twice as many green sub-pixels than the red and blue ones, and the green sub-pixels are smaller of the other two. Since the human eye is more sensitive to green light than red and blue, this technique has the advantage of emitting the same amount of light in the face of a reduction of energy consumed and the risk of burn-in.

In the face of these advantages, there is also a disadvantage, namely that the resolution of a Diamond matrix screen is technically lower compared to an RGB due to the numerical imbalance between green and red and blue sub-pixels. Not to mention that in the specific case of the Redmi Note 12 Pro series there is a sort of lottery in hitting one screen rather than another. And considering that for insiders TCL CSOT screens are better than Visionox ones, which are better than Tianma ones, there could be disparities over which the user cannot have control when purchasing; we therefore hope that Redmi has worked at its best to ensure that the differences are imperceptible to the human eye.
