At an event held in London earlier this week, OnePlus confirmed announced its new policy updates guaranteed, expecting 4 generations of OxygenOS e 5 years of security patch on smartphones that will be presented starting from 2023. In this way, the company will be able to offer users a fast & smooth experience for even longer.

Up to now, the Android update policy has seen the release of 3 major updates of the green robot's OS and 4 years dedicated to security updates. In a surprise move, OnePlus turns things upside down, with a whole new policy:

  • starting with 2023 models: 4 major Android updates (each one corresponds to a generation of OxygenOS) and 5 years of security updates.

The Chinese house has confirmed this plan limiting itself to claiming that it will be applied to a selection of smartphones launched over the next year. But does it also apply to the models of the Nord and N series (therefore for the mid-range and entry level)?

Probably not, the new policy will involve only the top of the range. As for the other device the current provisions should applyThese are:

  • medium / high range: starting from Nord and Nord CE, 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates
  • middle / low range: Starting with N10 and N100, 1 major Android update and 3 years of security updates

OxygenOS 13.1 and OxygenOS 14: what to expect

The team that created OP's proprietary interface also spoke during the event, including Gary Chen – Head of Software Products at OnePlus e Pencils Hsieh – Head of OneLab of OnePlus, who talked about the future of OxygenOS and the details related to versions 13.1 and 14.

With regard to the OxygenOS 13.1, the global launch is scheduled for the first half of 2023; the new version of the UI will offer various improvements, starting with security (with Private Safe). There will also be news for digital health and well-being, together with improvements for the multimedia experience.
