TUYA Smart Home Sensor Kit Review: the SMART and economical alarm for your home!

tuya smart home sensor kit

Years ago, when the first alarm solutions and anti-intrusion systems were put on the market, it seemed like science fiction in the eyes of the layman; we spoke using strange terminologies, stellar budgets that gave the possibility of installation to very few and the possibility of doing DIY jobs practically zero. Over the years, technology has changed, and many products that until a few years ago were only manageable by experts in the sector have now become affordable for everyone.

Today we have the opportunity to get our hands on a smart sensor kit for home security, and if you are wondering why you should evaluate one, I could basically summarize you in: safety, configuration within everyone's reach, negligible cost, and system easily. scalable, all specifications that you will never have in a "traditional" security system.

TUYA Smart Home Sensor Kit Review

Content of the package

In recent days, in fact, I received a smart home security kit, consisting of a Gateway main and other accessories: everything is totally self-configuring, and we just need to connect the power socket and position the various sensors.

However, before I spoil you too much, I tell you atinside the package what i found.

The kit that I am using in my review today is manufactured by Guangdong Roule Electronics Co., Ltd., A company that although it is totally unknown in our country, has been present on the electronics market for over 40 years and is among the top 10 brands in China in the security devices market, especially for the large amount of products that they currently ship to over 100 countries around the world.

Tuya and the platform

Tuya Smart is a development platform Global IoT to connect brands, OEMs, developers and resellers. Based on their global public cloud, Tuya connects different smart scenarios and devices by providing hardware development tools, public cloud services, and offering an intelligent business development platform.

What does it mean in practice? The company has created a global development platform to bring intelligent products to life for manufacturers, brands, OEMs and retail chains. Tuya supports business partners in creating customized PaaS solutions, such as Smart Medical Care, Smart Education, Smart Agriculture and other fields.

The ecosystem Powered by Tuya ensures the interoperability of smart devices from multiple brands, making the platform an "all in one" solution. Through the Tuya Smart platform, users need a single app to control all product categories, thus having a safe and trouble-free smart home available.

The specifications of the Smart Kit

Yes, ok: but how does the smart security kit who sent me the company? I start by telling you that this kit is totally self-installed, and we really have to do very few operations to be ready for use.

As soon as we discard it, first of all it touches us connect the gateway (which you can see in the photo above) to the power socket, and after which press the key (with a musical note depicted) for a few seconds to start the rsearch for Wi-Fi networks: here Tuya's application comes into play which in a few simple steps allows us to configure the entire Kit, probably without even realizing what you are doing. Obviously the kit is compatible with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks and with the 433.92MHz frequency for remote activation with the special remote control which I will talk about shortly.

One app, it's all SMART!

As previously mentioned, the beauty of products like this is the ability to manage everything from a single app: all the sensors are present from the first configuration of the smart kit, and it is possible to activate or exclude them from the alarm with a single tap on the smartphone display.

It is also possible to plan the activation and deactivation of the alarm directly from the app or consult the LOG containing all the alarms and activities recorded by each individual sensor with the reference time.

How the smart sensor kit works

Once the kit is fully configured autonomous on the application (which, it seems obvious to me to underline, needs to be downloaded from the App Store or Play Store and requires the creation of a user account) the entire range of sensors in this bundle in my possession is already fully configured and ready to use .

In the sales package all sensors are already supplied with buffer batteries (of different types and sizes, but the most common are the CR2032), but first make sure you remove the small plastic flaps that separate the battery from its contacts (to prevent them from discharging even before being put into operation).

As you will have seen from the contents of the package there are several sensors contained inside, which only need to be positioned in the area of interest with a single piece of double-sided tape, which among other things is included in the package. Between sensors certainly more to evaluate there is the one for 180-degree motion detection to be applied to the wall or ceiling, but also the sensors for doors and windows that detect their opening.

They all are well calibrated and well functioning, and among other things through the application you can adjust a timer to delay its activation following the activation of the alarm, or exclude a certain sensor rather than another. The activation of the alarm takes place in two ways: if you are inside the house, or in any case near the installed system, using the remote control supplied in the package while alternatively you can adjust everything remotely via the app as thethe entire system is connected to the home network via Wi-Fi; if there is no internet connection, you will necessarily have to rely on the remote control.

Among others accessories supplied in pack and already preconfigured there is an alarm button that allows you to start an acoustic alert directly on the gateway; the volume of these warnings is obviously not comparable to an outdoor siren, but I see it more useful to receive the alarm notification directly on the smartphone and warn of any danger. The volume of the gateway, however, is adjustable via the side button on the gateway itself, or alternatively in the settings on the Tuya app.

What are the pros and cons of a smart alarm system like this that I have tried? Among the pros there is certainly the ease of installation, which is practically within everyone's reach, the extremely low cost that makes it accessible to anyone and finally, but not least, the extreme scalability of this system that can accommodate a number infinite number of sensors without having to add control units or external modules which usually cost very high figures.

Among the cons, actually, it must be said that this is not a real "alarm system" and security, as everything is based on a Gateway connected to a socket and on a Wi-Fi connection: more reliable security systems have backup batteries, a SIM card inside them, as well as an operations center (now also controllable from a smartphone, which was impossible until a few years ago) and an outdoor siren that can really make a difference in cases of danger.

If you need to plan a bulk purchase of IoT devices or OEM products, you can send a request here. Also, you can ask Tuya's experts for advice to see how Tuya supports the growth of smart businesses.
