Blitzwolf BW-V2 review: the coolest SMART projector EVER!

Blitzwolf BW-V2 budget smart projector

Over time we have learned to know the brand better Blitzwolf, a Chinese company that unlike many others has not limited its field of action to a single product, as much as it has aimed at creating a series of devices in the tech field all quite different from each other.

The constant, however, is always and only one: to maintain a valid value for money with its products, and I must say that in my personal experience it has never disappointed my expectations and, indeed, in some circumstances even exceeded them. The subject of today's review is the Blitzwolf BW-V2, an atypical projector for its design that could strike the most attentive to details.

Blitzwolf BW-V2 review

Design and Materials

Its strong point is definitely the design: Blitzwolf BW-V2 it is extremely compact for being a “non-portable” projector and has finishes that make it truly one of a kind. Looking at it for the first time, in all honesty, it might seem like an "old-fashioned radio" rather than a projector, but its nature is in fact quite different: it is made of plastic, the side finishes are opaque to the touch and has a rubber gripbrown on the top for easy transport.

From the front, however, it is finished in fabric, the same that is used to finish some more modern sofas in terms of style and color; behind him are hidden the two speakers of 5W each, while on the side the lens with a focal length of 58mm has obviously been inserted. At the top the company has left room for the focus adjustment ring which on this model remains manual and not automatic as seen recently in the model Wanbo T4 by YouPin which I personally have tried.

On the back of the Blitzwolf BW-V2finally, there is the input for the power supply, a USB port for playing content from external sources, an HDMI input for connecting a PC, console or other and a jack from 3.5mm in case we want to connect a soundbar or simply a pair of headphones via cable. In addition it also supports Bluetooth, so if you want you can do without using annoying cables to connect your external audio devices.

Also on the back, the company has inserted all the slits for air dissipation: Blitzwolf does not specify how many fans it has inserted inside, but I can tell you that perhaps I would have preferred a more aggressive solution because the projector heats up enough, but to honor the True, the fans are very quiet, so I think the company has chosen a softer approach than it really would have been.

Specifications

On the technical front, however, this Blitzwolf BW-V2 it loses a few points compared to the competition: it is true, he stands out for the decidedly aggressive price with which he arrives on the market, and above all for the extremely modern design suitable for any environment. On the other hand, however, it must be said that the Blitzwolf does not exceed 200 ANSI lumens.

As can also be deduced from the words present near the lens, the Blitzwolf BW-V2 supports a resolution maximum of 1920 x 1080 pixels and is able to reproduce images in a 1.4: 1 scale with a diagonal ranging from 40 ″ to 100 ″ and an optimal distance of use between 1.5 and 4 meters with respect to the surface on which we intend to project.

In my concrete tests I could not use a real professional sheet as I do not have one, but I used my usual sheet for the tests of the projectors I receive: consider that, compared to what could be obtained with a professional sheet, with this solution loses about 10% of the real quality.

Among technical specifications that characterize the Blitzwolf BW-V2 we have the automatic keystone correction that works rather quickly and precisely and the digital zoom adjustable via software interface; as I anticipated before, however, for the adjustment of the focus we must necessarily put our hand to the upper ring which, however, is very fast in the adjustments as well as being extremely accurate.

Then we would have to add some details at the hardware level because this Blitzwolf BW-V2, like many other products tested recently, has a smart heart inside and can be used "unattached" from any external source; the company has not communicated precisely the model of the CPU installed on board, but it is almost certainly a SoC from Mediatek, with 2GB RAM memory and 32GB of eMMC storage, Bluetooth and 2.4 / 5GHz Wi-Fi.

Video quality

To tell you about the actual quality of image reproduction, alas, this time I will not be able to use technical data to support my thesis, as it is a product still not final which will be launched on the market very shortly and for which a technical data sheet has not yet been drawn up.

However, I can tell you, however, that the only 200 ANSI lumens they are seen during the reproduction of images and absolutely forget to project images in rooms even if only minimally lit as you will not be able to view absolutely any content. In the presence of duly "dark" rooms, however, the result improves but I was not 100% satisfied, again because of the too low brightness.

As for the color calibration really nothing to say, the same in the speech related to the distortions of the images or chromatic aberrations: no problem to highlight if not, in fact, the brightness too low.

The hardware of this Blitzwolf BW-V2 reminds me a little of the Wanbo t2 max that we tried last year; the price, net of the coupon, is very similar and of poco less than 150 euros, and in fact the specifications they share are many, with the exception of the design on which Blitzwolf has focused a lot in this model.

Software

On board, the company then envisaged the use of Android in 9.0.1 version, not among the most up-to-date ever but in these cases poco it matters; the UI is not that great and it is practically the same that we have seen on all projectors in this market segment and also in the Android boxes that transform your TVs into “smart TVs”. However the only real aspect that the software of this Blitzwolf projector lacks on is the translations, really roughly done that Google Translate would be shocked about it.

The positive side is undoubtedly full compatibility with Google services, which we find pre-installed on board, as well as Aptoide TV which allows you to quickly download the APK any applications not present on the Play Store and not compatible; pre-installed on board, moreover, there are all the most popular streaming apps, including Netflix, of which I have verified 100% compatibility.

Price and Considerations

The sale price of Blitzwolf BW-V2 it is about 220 euros at the time of writing this review, and thanks to the dedicated coupon that you find below you can buy it at a price of about 150 euros, a figure that places it in the entry level range of the market in its own right. What sets it apart from other products already in circulation?

Definitely the design and construction, not comparable to many products below 100 euros that we ourselves have also had the opportunity to try. For the rest it is better, but for about 150 euros you cannot make big claims in the technical field, so you would have to exceed at least the threshold of 200 euros.
