Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G review: the price goes up, but the 120W recharge is a BOMB

redmi note 11 pro + 5g

Since Xiaomi landed on our market there has been a real upheaval in the hierarchies at the brand level, at least in the mid-range. Although this is one of those manufacturers not exclusively aimed at the smartphone sector, its revenues largely depend on this category of devices. I think it is normal, therefore, to try to improve more and more, in order to have greater opportunities for growth in the medium term. On the part of the Chinese giant, therefore, this growth took place and in a rather evident way.

In addition to all the skills acquired by Xiaomi over the years here in Europe, the company has decided to bring with it a series of rather interesting devices. Going to analyze the smartphones alone, therefore, we see how the brand has evolved, always offering new solutions at rather interesting prices. Gradually, therefore, it has launched here in Europe (and in Italy), many different products and series, thus increasing the competition.

Taking a look at the current Redmi Note 11 family, belonging to the mid-range, we notice the presence of many devices. During these months, in fact, we have brought you the reviews of Redmi Note 11 e Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G. A few days ago, however, Xiaomi has decided to present other products on our territory, including Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G, a medium-high-end terminal that mounts a Dimensity 920 SoC and a brightly colored Super AMOLED display. So, everything any user could want, at least from the data sheet.

Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G review, the 120W HyperCharge is the real plus

You would have liked to see some news about the packaging, but the brand has decided to keep track. Let's see, therefore, how the design of the phone is already revealed on the front of the package, which shows its lines. Going to the back, however, we find absolutely nothing. In any case, inside the packaging resides:

  • Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G;
  • USB / USB Type-C cable for device charging and data transfer;
  • transparent silicone cover;
  • wall power supply;
  • short instruction manual, also in Italian.

Design & Materials

I must admit that Xiaomi, in the last two years, has improved a lot from a constructive point of view. Going to take a closer look at this Note 11 Pro + 5G, therefore, we notice a body made entirely of metal with a square design. Beyond the similarities with the smartphones produced by the most famous Cupertino company, the Chinese giant offers three different colors: StarBlue, Graphite Gray and Forest Green. I tell you, then, that the dimensions are so important that it does not make it a product that can be easily maneuvered with one hand, especially in the most excited moments. This smartphone, in fact, measures 163,65 x 76,19 x 8,34 mm, with a total weight of 204 grams which does not facilitate its grip. Having a satin body, then, the feeling that the phone has to fall at any moment is even more amplified. Despite this, however, this surface retains very few footprints, getting really dirty poco in daily use.

redmi note 11 pro + 5g

Once again we cannot rejoice in a single aspect related to the design: this Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G offers a display that is not symmetrical on all sides. Even just looking down, in fact, we notice that this edge is thicker than the one we find in the upper part. However, I want to focus more on other aspects, such as the one that directly concerns the photo gallery rear. This surface protrudes an abundant millimeter from the profile of the device and appears to be poco ergonomic. In fact, it often happened to me to take some pictures with the main camera and see how, in the upper left corner, it took part of my finger. With the cover furthermore, supplied in the package, the step created by this compartment is not eliminated.

Xiaomi did not want to deprive this model of almost any comfort, showing one on the upper profile stereo speaker, secondary microphone for the suppression of rustles, the IR sensor and audio jack 3,5 mm. On the right side, then, we find the volume rocker and the on / off button which also integrates a fingerprint sensor. Instead, let's see how the lower frame hosts it SIM slot, the entrance USB Type-C, main microphone and stereo speaker. I must say that every single component has been well integrated into this body, not detecting any structural imperfections. I would also like to point out the collaboration with JBL as regards the audio sector, a collaboration clearly shown also on the upper frame.

Unlocking Systems

I always dedicate a separate chapter to the release systems, even if no big news has come out in recent years. Despite this, I would like to point out on this model the presence of a sensor for fingerprints and 2D facial recognition.

I want to focus more on the first method, which is the biometric sensor. Although in possession of an AMOLED display, the company in this case did not want to risk it and decided not to introduce the sensor under the display. Let's see, therefore, how this has been positioned on the right, under the volume balance wheel, in a rather convenient point to reach. I wouldn't have expected it, but the accuracy and unlocking speed are actually really good, in all conditions. As soon as you touch the sensor, the display turns on, a sign that Redmi has worked well in this regard by integrating a good module for reading fingerprints. As always, however, I do not recommend the use of facial recognition via selfie camera, given the unreliability and poor accuracy when unlocking the device.

It should be the same as Note 11, but this Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G shows something different in terms of display. Let's see, therefore, how a unit resides on this smartphone AMOLED da 6,67" with resolution Full HD + (1.800 x 2.400 pixels) with density of 395 PPi, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 e refresh rate equal to 120Hz. Compared to the standard model, therefore, with a panel refresh rate of 90Hz and a smaller display, there is a minimal difference.

redmi note 11 pro + 5g

Honestly, the higher refresh rate does not affect that much in daily use since, at least in my opinion, 90Hz was more than enough. Despite this, the device confirms a certain speed in switching from one screen to another, not disappointing expectations. There is no shortage of colors rather garish and saturated, which make this panel one of the most pleasant to look at in the mid-range. Here, therefore, the whites tend only slightly to blue but the blacks are very deep, a typical element of this technology. Thanks to it, then, there is no light bleeding effect around the selfie camera and on the side edges, a sign of an assembly of excellent workmanship.

The display does not hold many fingerprints, therefore the oleophobic treatment it seems to carry out its duty in full. This also helps in outdoor use where the sunlight does not disturb the display of the contents on the screen too much. I must admit, therefore, that the maximum brightness is sufficient, as well as the viewing angles that do not create a big distortion of the colors. In any case, you can change the calibration of the latter using the editor made available to the company, within the display settings.

Hardware & Performance

Depending on the country we are in, this device is equipped with different hardware. So, in India it was equipped with a Snapdragon 695 SoC, while the European version (the one we had on test) uses a MediaTek Dimensity 920. So let's see how this processor was made at 6nm with the following configuration: 2 x Cortex-A78 2,5GHz + 6 x Cortex-A55 2,0GHz. They complete this equipment 6GB of RAM LPDDR4X e 128GB of internal memory UFS 2.2 type.

It is not simply a mid-range smartphone but, by far, an excellent device for everyday use. In addition to the fluidity and speed of execution of all the various applications such as Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, Telegram, YouTube and others. Despite this, one aspect remains evident: Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G does not distort what is seen on the basic variant. This device, therefore, works quite well but fails to justify a clear improvement on the performance side, still showing some uncertainty and some small bugs,. The system will certainly need further refinement but, at the moment, there is still some work to be done.

From a multimedia point of view it is an excellent machine, since, for example, on YouTube it allowed me to watch without too many problems different videos in 2160p at 60fps (4K) with technology HDR. Having a large display, therefore, can certainly come in handy with streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney + and Amazon Prime Video. Also from the gaming point of view, then, it does not disappoint at all. On board, in fact, he mounts one GPU Mali-G68 which manages to run a title of the caliber of Call of Duty Mobile, with stable frame-rate and excellent responsiveness. I believe, therefore, that in this respect it has poco to be envied by phones that cost 200 euros more, showing performance absolutely in line with the new needs of the market. I also found the heat dissipation system, with a vapor chamber, which manages to keep the hot spirits of the SoC at bay, particularly effective.

Xiaomi has not yet decided to bring MIUI 13 to all new models, so this device still mounts the MIUI 12.5.2 based on Android 11 with security patch dated 1/1/2022. Many users, in this respect, complain about the slowness in updates, especially in the Google patches, so we hope that this device is not one of those models to be soon forgotten. Beyond this aspect, I believe that this interface remains one of the most complete, especially in terms of customization. There are many menus that allow you to change different parameters, from the display to the colors, from the home display to gesture. Some brands are trying to get closer to this concept and someone, like OPPO, is slowly succeeding.

After opening the sales package and turning on the phone, we have no other operation to perform. Once the initial configuration phase has been completed, the device is ready to use, providing a whole series of basic apps that are very accurate from a graphical point of view.

They could have made some substantial changes to the photographic sector, but basically Redmi Note 11 Pro had already shown that it can take excellent photos for its price range. Therefore, also in this case on the rear profile reside a main sensor from 108 MP, a 1 / 1,52 ″ Samsung sensor with f / 1.8 aperture e 9 in 1 pixel binning (12MP images). Then, a sensor follows ultra-wide-angle da 8 MP with FOV di 120° and, finally, the macro camera from 2 MP.

I cannot say that the photographs taken by this smartphone are bad. Of day, therefore, the main sensor manages to manage the lights well, also making use of the help of the automatic HDR, showing a good contrast. The colors tend slightly to warm tones but all in all the shot is noteworthy and rather clean. There is only little attention to detail but this is a common element to Redmi Note 11 Pro and, more generally, to the entire mid-range category. I don't recommend that you use the wide angle lens in any situation, because you could get a poor photo out of it. Even if the quality is not great you will have to try to exploit it in good lighting.

Di notte the quality drops drastically and the photographic noise is much more evident. With rather strong light contrasts, the 108 MP sensor goes into crisis and it becomes difficult to get a shot that is at least sufficient. He comes to your rescue there Night Mode, which unlike the point-and-shoot mode better calibrates the artificial light and the contrast, returning a clearer and more defined image. Obviously the photo seems to be rather "fake" but this is the price to pay to get a photograph that is at least sufficient. Going to try the wide-angle or, even worse, the macro, things do not turn out to be in favor of this phone, losing too much detail.

La selfie camera da 16 MP it has remained unchanged compared to the Pro model, so even in this case the quality is only sufficient. Even if during the day it is distinguished by greater attention to detail and better contrast, in the evening it loses several points. I also believe that the brand needs to make some updates regarding the portrait mode, which is really too imprecise in deciphering the subject in the foreground.

I would have expected something more from the point of view video, but in this case we do not go beyond me 4K a 30fps. In terms of quality, all the considerations made previously apply, adding again that the optical stabilization is decent. When you walk, in fact, you notice some disturbances mainly dictated by the software, which cannot manage some parameters well.

Audio & Connectivity

As specified above, this device mounts two stereo speakers. They are both located at the ends of the device, one on the upper profile and the other on the lower one. These were developed in collaboration with JBL, a company that took care of the quality of these components, actually making a good contribution. Even if the lows are poco present, in fact, the sound turns out to be quite full-bodied and precise, with a slight preference for medium tones. Within the mid-range, therefore, it is one of the few to offer such performances in this area.

redmi note 11 pro + 5g

After several days of use I can tell you that the device did not show any major problems during the call. From my point of view, however, the volume is too low and it is difficult to understand what our interlocutor is saying when we are near a slightly noisier area. The same goes for voice messages, which always seem to be too low.

From the point of view of connectivity, this Redmi Note 11 Pro + 5G allows you to take advantage of Fastweb's 5G network without problems. Living constantly in a big city, the coverage is almost total. Not only that, however, because this device also performs well with the 802.11 Wi-Fi a / b / g / n / ac Dual Band that in the less covered areas of the house does not show insecurities. To complete this package we find the Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6, L 'NFC, GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS / Beidou / Galileo.

On the one hand we have Redmi Note 11 Pro, which mounts a 5.160 mAh battery, while on the other hand we find the new Note 11 Pro + 5G which houses a 4.500 mAh. As you can guess for yourself this is a rather important decrease, which does not speak in favor of this new device. Despite this, however, autonomy is not affected much, managing in any case to cover an entire working day with an average intense use. Unlike the Pro model, however, in the evening you often arrive only with 15-20% of residual charge, a sign that in this respect it is necessary to give up something.

Quick recharge compensates for the shorter battery life HyperCharge da 120W, the real plus of this smartphone. Thanks to it, therefore, it is possible to go from 10% to 100% in about 15 minutes.

There are few features that make this device unique and that, above all, justify a change with Redmi Note 11 Pro. As you have seen in these reviews, the performance is very similar and the problems present on the standard model have not yet been solved. From this point of view, therefore, I would have expected something more from the company, which has decided to expand the Note family without paying attention to some fundamental aspects of these phones. I must also admit, however, that the value for money could catch the attention of several users. Although the interface is still very different from Google's stock one, the settings are many and the system apps allow you to immediately take advantage of this smartphone without a hitch. In the hope that Xiaomi will continue to support this device in the future, it is one of those phones with a 5G connection to consider.
