If a few years ago they had told me that one day I would have talked about a medium-high-end smartphone at a modest, so to speak, 1000 euro figure, I would probably have laughed in the face of my interlocutor. For a series of reasons, however, which we have already analyzed and discussed several times, the price of the technology has risen and not by poco, which is why a scenario like the one described poco ago became reality.
But this is not a controversy against today's protagonist, but a little against the entire sector: OPPO Find X5, meanwhile, the device is a span less than theX5 PRO who has tried Dario in the last few weeks, a product that has been chosen by our editorial staff as one of the most interesting products of this 2022, so far.
OPPO Find X5Instead, it tries not to overturn the cards on the table too much and comes with an inferior hardware, but balanced, with the same photographic processor, the same sensors and some small, very small sacrifices.

OPPO Find X5 review
Design and Materials
I want to start, this time, with the dimensions because in this review we will make some comparisons with the older brother, above all to actually understand, between the two, which one can make more sense: OPPO Find X5 it's big 160.3 72.6 x x 8.7mm and weighs about 196 grams, therefore more compact, manageable and lighter than the PRO variant which reaches 220 grams.
I materials used for assembly, however, are different: X5 PRO stood out for its back cover made of ceramic, while the little one has one glass back cover with matt finish very nice to the touch and a side frame in polished aluminum, a real magnet for fingerprints. The treatment of the back cover, on the other hand, is perfect because it provides both a nice premium feel to the touch and is designed not to capture fingerprints in the most absolute way.
Il bump room on this model it is less pronounced than the PRO variant, it is true: ok, it does not warn us of the detachment "step" as on almost all smartphones on the market, but it is not even pronounced as on the X5 PRO, and as far as I'm concerned this is not is a point against it.
Unfortunately, the unknowns on the back cover remain totally full of writings, information and much more that I would have done very well without on a great design like this one OPPO Find X5. Among other things, the rear edges with one make the smartphone even more manageable curvature at 75 ° and the front ones which, although they may be hated by many, favor a better grip and undisputed manageability: right in the side edges OPPO has integrated "virtual LEDs" via software that are enabled to receive notifications.
As for the arrangement of the elements, I can tell you that on the right side we find the on, lock and off button, on the left the volume rocker, at the top the second microphone for noise suppression and at the bottom the USB connector. -C for recharging, the trolley for two SIMs (but not the memory expansion) and the speaker.
Speaking of speakers, as already seen above Find X5 PRO, even the X5 has a primary speaker at the bottom and a secondary speaker in the ear capsule, not a strictly stereophonic quality, but able to ensure a good volume and a decent sound quality.
La relative part la safety it is entrusted to the biometric sensor under the screen which is very precise and responsive; I specify the unlocking also through face recognition, but it is 2D therefore not among the safest.
Display
Among the differentiating characteristics of the two brothers in the series Find X5 there is just the display; the Chinese company used a AMOLED panel diagonal with 6.55" and FullHD + resolution 2400 x 1080 pixels, with dynamic refresh rate up to maximum 120Hz and a pixel density of 402PPI.
It shares the glass cladding with the larger model Gorilla Glass Foods and the sampling frequency of the touch up to 240Hz, but unfortunately does not share the maximum brightness which on this model does not go beyond 1000nits against the 1300 peak of the big brother.
However, complaining about the display installed on board the OPPO Find X5 is practically a hard mission, very hard: there is practically nothing to complain about, the display has exceptional colors and offers a good user experience in any context, including in direct sunlight. The screen, then, has exceptional viewing angles and deep blacks as per AMOLED tradition.
The panel also has full support for theHDR10 + which combined with the presence of certifications Widevine L1, allows you to make the most of this screen. For the rest, this model also integrates all the usual color adjustments of the coloros that allow you to make the color range of this panel entirely customizable, but also the adjustments for HDR, OPPO's Ultra Vision and so on.
Hardware and Performance
To make the difference, however, not only the display thinks about it but also the overall technical data sheet of the device: up OPPO Find X5 in fact, last year's top-of-the-range Qualcomm processor, lo Snapdragon 888 5G Octa-Core with an Adreno 660 GPU, 8 or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM memory at 3200Mhz and 3.1 or 128GB UFS 256 storage, not expandable.
In fact it is inferior hardware to that seen on Find X5 PRO, but still of a very high profile compared to the medium-high range currently in circulation in the smartphone sector.
Logically compare the benchmarking with the PRO model it really has poco sense, but instead it makes more sense to make a comparison of daily usability: in this case it is practically impossible to be able to find differences in everyday operations, including the gaming sector tested with Call of Duty Mobile which returns very high performance.
A frequent problem with devices that have used this Qualcomm chipset over the past year is the poor battery life which, I must say, OPPO has managed to optimize greatly by making even a chip balanced that, since its launch, has never been balanced.
In some ways, as far as I'm concerned, this variant of the Find X5 it is also more balanced than the PRO version which, if used completely without brakes and at its maximum performance, could instead create some small problems with temperatures.
However, to complete the hardware part of this OPPO Find X5 there is a connectivity of the highest level and identical to its older brother: it also supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and 5G connectivity.
Camera
The formation deployed in the field from OPPO in the photographic field it has more than slight differences compared to the PRO variant, which confirms the company's interest in proposing a high-profile device at a slightly more advantageous price but without major sacrifices.
OPPO Find X5 in practice, it has a main sensor Sony IMX766 from 50MP with aperture f / 1.8 (on the PRO it was 1.7), the ultra wide-angle lens from 50MP f / 2.2 with 110 ° FOV and a 13MP telephoto lens with f / 2.4 aperture. To assist everything there is the OPPO NPU, or Marisilicon X which is a chip for imadging that allows you to obtain very important results on board a smartphone and which we talked about in the our study which I invite you to read if you have lost it.
Then there is another aspect that should not be underestimated, the collaboration with Hasselblad also on this little one has been maintained and this, together with Marisilicon, bears great fruit in the photographic rendering of the smartphone.
In shots taken during the day the Find X5 takes shots with really good colors, good contrast, rich in detail and poor in defects. The point and shoot is practically lightning fast both in good light conditions and when there is little light. The speech is valid both with the main camera and with the ultra wide-angle one, where the behavior is almost similar in most contexts. Yes, because the ultra-wide thanks to its excellent focal aperture and the number of MPs available can also provide excellent quality shots with good details and almost perfect colors.
La made in the night is the moment where the Marisilicon, where the smartphone manages to bring home shots of unique brilliance, with good definition and excellent stabilization: the main difference lies in the white balance that I didn't find perfect at night and in the management of the lights, which in some situations put a strain on the smartphone. However, the results are exceptional and in line with what one would expect from a smartphone that costs, however, a thousand euros.
Selfies, thanks to the 32MP lens with f / 2.4 aperture, are very good in practically any context and manage to have a good definition.
As for the videos, however, I will perhaps go a little against the tide because they did not give me that "wow" effect that I would have expected: premise, the videos are of good quality and can be recorded up to 4K is 60 fps, but from the stabilization I would have wanted something more. I tested in FullHD to 60fps both with traditional stabilization and with the "Ultra Steady Shot" function present in the interface and in both cases the result did not live up to my expectations (watch the video to understand what I mean).
However at the software level the video part is managed flawlessly because, for example, the smartphone can record clips in PRO mode and LOG version, that is the kind of "flat" file useful for making an important color correction during video editing, and it is a possibility not widely spread in the mobile environment.
Software
OPPO Find X5 has, on the software front, Android 12 with Color OS 12.1 and security patches updated in February 2022. On an aesthetic level, that is to say, it is the usual Color OS that we now know and that we either love, or hate: personally the OPPO ROMs, together with those of Realme, are among those that I prefer more in the Android field both for the graphical interface and for the amount of customizations present.
The only downside of the coloros, as also highlighted by Dario in the review of the PRO variant of this X5, lies in the slowness (probably desired eh!) of the menu animations, in the opening of the apps or any section of the various menus that could deceive and make us pass the smartphone for "slow", but the reality is that we are just a bunch of fixated. Let's be honest.
Autonomy
A small reduction was also made in the battery field, because the OPPO Find X5 has one battery from 4800 mAh which, however, remains sufficient in average daily use. The Snapdragon 888, we know, it is not among the cheapest in terms of battery consumption, but OPPO in my opinion she managed to find the right place and with a "human" use you can get there until the evening without major problems, which instead arise if you are smartphone addicted and force you to recharge it around 19, assuming you start the day at 8 in the morning.
However, in case of problems related to autonomy in any more stressful days, it comes against us Super VOOC of OPPO which delivers a maximum of 80W and guarantees a complete recharge to the smartphone in something like about 30 minutes. What more could you ask for? Wireless charging? There is that too, up to a whopping 30W.
Price and Considerations
To define OPPO Find X5 someone's “younger” brother might almost seem like an insult, but in fact it's the reality when compared to the PRO version. What I can tell you is that I liked this smartphone in everything: it has a design taken care of at absolute levels, perfect construction materials and performances that have not made me regret the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 of the PRO version.
The good, or the bad you do a little, comes now: the price set by OPPO for its Find X5 is € 999 about 300 euros less than the PRO variant. Ok, the bar has definitely risen on all fronts and the legitimate question is whether it is worth spending 1000 euros for this product: in my opinion the price is a bit high, it must be said, but if I had to choose between him and the PRO, well for about 300 euros I would choose the PRO. But there is another aspect to consider too, the presence of an OPPO Find X3 PRO with a very similar technical sheet at a much more honest price, around 700 euros as a street price. Play your game.
