2022 could be a year of confirmations for MediaTek, which after having conquered the SoC market presents the new ones Dimensity 8000 e 8100. Two chipsets that aim to offer smartphone manufacturers an alternative to their respective high-end solutions, albeit not very high. That will be destined for the Dimensity 9000, of which we are still awaiting the debut but which promises to be a valid competitor Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. While waiting for the 9000 series to make its debut on the market, let's see what these new SoCs bring to the plate.
Dimensity 8000 and 8100 official: here are all the news presented by MediaTek
Let's start by saying that between MediaTek Dimensity 8000 and 8100 there are no radical differences, as they share almost all the technical characteristics. They are both SoCs made for the first time with a manufacturing process 5nm TSMC, when Snapdragon 888 and 888+ are yes to 5 nm but produced by Samsung. A difference that will be interesting to evaluate in terms of energy efficiency, given the complaints reserved for the 888 series.
One of the differences between the two is found in the CPU: the Dimensity 8000 contains a 4 x octa-core CPU 2,75 GHz Cortex-A78 + 4 x 2,0 GHz Cortex-A55. For the Dimensity 8100instead, the frequency of the Cortex-A78 cores rises to 2,85 GHz. It does not change the ARM GPU Mali-G610 MC6, even if on the 8100 it has a higher frequency, as well as RAM memories L at 6400 Mbps and a 580 5th Gen APU that is twice as fast. The connectivity compartment includes 5G Dual SIM Dual Standby SA + NSA modem, 4 × 4 MIMO and speeds up to 4,7 Gbps. But also Wi-Fi 6E 2 × 2, Bluetooth 5.3, Bluetooth LE Audio with Dual-Link True Wireless Stereo and BeiDou III-B1C.
The other difference is in display support, with the 8000 supporting displays Full HD + to 168 Hz, while the 8100 can also support displays Quad HD + a 120 Hz. The sector related to cameras remains unchanged, with the ISP Imagiq 780, support for cameras up to 200 MP, 4K video recording, simultaneous HDR dual camera video and features such as 5Gbps 14-bit HDR-ISPs / HDR Video / Bokeh Video / EIS Video / AI-Shutter / AI-AE / AI-AF / AI-AWB / AI-NR HDR / AI-HDR / AI-FD.
Which smartphones will have Dimensity 8000 and 8100?
As MediaTek states, the first smartphones with Dimensity 8000 and 8100 will arrive during the Q1 2022, therefore already during the month of March. There have already been various confirmations from manufacturers, as in the case of Redmi, Realme, OnePlus and OPPO.
