Review Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G Global: the (usual) reference point under 300 euros

After presenting the new Redmi Note 11 series in China, now several months ago, Xiaomi has finally formalized its new smartphones also on the global market, but it did so with totally different hardware. Don't ask me why, but the global version of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, for example, the MediaTek Dimensity 920 has been replaced by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 but, rest assured, although some people may hypothesize that the Soc used in the newcomer of Redmi's Note family may be less performing than the Snap 732G that animated the Note 10 Pro , I can tell you that from our tests, we have an increase in performance of about 15% compared to the previous generation.

In short, Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G in the global version it is a device that actually in InPro with Giz (our Telegram group in which we publish all the backstage reviews) has aroused a lot of interest, especially for its quality / price ratio, but to date we still have no news about the sale official in Italy and related prices.

In the meantime, we point out that Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G Global is available for purchase on AliExpress at a discounted price: at the bottom of the article you will find the link and the coupon.

Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G global review

Design and materials

The reality of the facts is that Redmi (or rather, Xiaomi), now definitely risks poco on this market segment: a slice in which it actually plays a leading role and in which it always manages to move intelligently. Compared to the 2021 model, the design is changed but not distorted.

Now the lines of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G are clearer, especially in the plastic frame which, thanks to a flatter design, makes the grip much better, which I found much more pleasant: we are still talking about polycarbonate, it is clear, however, compared to the Redmi Note 10 Pro the touch and feel that you get when you hold the new one Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G it is better, also thanks to the back cover with matte finish that deeply manages fingerprints better.

The fingerprint sensor has been positioned on the side, in the power button, and at the front is a super bright 6.67-inch AMOLED panel. Xiaomi guarantees that peak brightness should be over 1000 nits, and I have no trouble believing it. Around the panel the frames continue to be rather thick and evident, while along the frame you can find the two stereo speakers (independent, but positioned without criteria as we have seen in the Xiaomi 12), the IR blaster to transform the smartphone into a remote control and - listen, listen - the input for the 3.5 mm headphone jack.

In short, as I said, in terms of novelty from the point of view of design Xiaomi now has poco to say. And holding both models (Note 10 Pro and Note 11 Pro), the only elements capable of transmitting a feeling of modernity could be the back cover and the flatter side frames.

But if there is one thing we have learned over time, it is that when it comes to Xiaomi displays it is second to none, indeed. Nor is it in a low-mid-range device, which costs less than 300 euros. The screen of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G uses a sparkling AMOLED panel with FullHD + resolution, capable of guaranteeing a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz and protected by a Gorilla Glass 5.

And it is precisely this attention that the brand always dedicates to displays, which makes it almost boring to have to talk about it every time, because in the end we find ourselves repeating the same considerations: it is one of those displays that transmits a premium feeling already at the first start. Ok, probably the density of pixels per inch (which is around 400 ppi) is not exactly the best, but the images are well balanced, well saturated, with deep blacks and excellent contrast.

But, as last year, also this time the automatic brightness management tends not to always make the 1200 nits declared by the company yield: in my tests I noticed that it could vary from a minimum of 2,3 nits to a maximum of about 725 nits.

What happened to them the 1200 nits peak advertised by the company? Simple, they are exploited only when they reproduce HDR content: with non-HDR content when you raise the screen brightness to the maximum you get to 475 nits, while when you activate the display mode with direct light you exceed poco the 700 nits.

Hardware and Performance

To animate the new Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G global takes care of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695, flanked by 6 or 8 GB of RAM of the LPDDR4x type and 64 or 128 GB of internal memory of the UFS 2.2 type. There is also a 4G version of the device that uses a Helio G96, and all in all yes: from the hardware point of view it is not that the differences with last year are noticeable. Ok, as we will actually see the processor and the GPU slightly increase performance, but also this year the memories are rather slow even if, and this is important to say, all the hardware sector is more than adequate for the price range in which it fits. the smartphone.

To be clear, Geekbench's 688 points in single core and 2050 points in multi-core are a rather similar result to what we saw in the Note 10 Pro (indeed, to be honest, in multi-core the previous generation was more performing) , but in more stressful tests like that of AnTuTu, the gap between the two processors begins to become clearer: the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G it scored 392.774 points, against 286.522 of the previous generation. And in principle things are also very similar in 3D Mark and in PC Mark, tests in which the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G he totaled 1196 points and 7483 points respectively.

What left me a little perplexed, however, was the result of the AnTuTu stress test, in which it is clear that even with this Snap Xiaomi has used a perhaps too conservative management of the CPU performance, with peaks that even reach 45 %. Although, and this must be said, it is a management that apparently does not greatly influence the use of every day, even in game: the 3D Mark stress test in fact, generated a rather constant temperature / framerate graph, which highlights how thermal throttling is absolutely not a problem.

In short, this Snap 695 is certainly not the fastest processor that Xiaomi could have used, from our tests it turned out to be a rather stable solution and poco suffering from drops in performance due to temperatures.

In short, it is an excellent mid-range smartphone, which always results fluid and without any slowdown, although I have noticed a considerable lag that occurs when switching from the main camera to the ultra-wide-angle one, but I am convinced it depends on the optimization of the software.

Good performance in the game though, it must be admitted that at most the graphics Notes redmi 11 Pro he begins to have some doubts with the more complex games. But it is clear: in this price range, compromises are essential.

Thus so are the stereo speakers, which guarantee a good volume of reproduction but which are characterized by a balance of frequencies tending very much to medium and high tones, and are positioned in a non-symmetrical way: in a nutshell, regardless of the way in which the smartphone is handled. , you always risk covering one of the speakers with your hand.

In general, I am satisfied with the photographic sector of this Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G. Let me be clear, essentially in terms of cameras practically nothing changes compared to the previous generation, especially as regards the main camera which is 108 megapixel and uses the usual Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor. The size from 1 / 1.52 ", but is still able to take good quality photographs with a marked sharpness, thanks to the 9 in 1 pixel binning (which produces 12 megapixel photos) and a dynamic range rather well managed by Redmi's processing software.

Then there is an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with a 120 ° Field of View which is flanked, in turn, by a 2-megapixel macro.

Now, this is the point. Considering the selling price of the device and the market segment in which it fits, there is poco to object to the shots taken with the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, at least during the day.

At night things become more complicated and even if the main camera manages to manage quite well even the less illuminated areas, unfortunately it is not possible to take pictures with the Night mode using the ultra-wide angle lens.

The front camera instead uses a 16 megapixel sensor that is able to take decent selfies, perhaps too "clean" with the beauty effect typical of the brand, but all in all enjoyable, as well as the videos that can be recorded in FullHD, but always at 30 fps.

In the video recording, then, Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G in the global version it is a bit more limited and is able to record at a maximum FullHD resolution at 30 fps, with good (but not exceptional) electronic stabilization and, fortunately, with all three lenses. However, if you use the Super Macro video mode, the resolution would drop to 720p.

If you know the graphical interface of Xiaomi, in the software of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G you will not find anything new. The device is animated by Android 11, customized by MIUI 13, in which no particular features have been introduced designed for the Redmi device compared to those seen in the other Xiaomi animated by this version.

Xiaomi's GUI goes a beauty on the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, that “extravagant” touch of the Chinese company continues to be present, which personalizes the Google operating system in practically every detail and the animations continue to be fluid and responsive.

We have been talking about MIUI 13 for some time now and it does not seem appropriate to dwell too much on Xiaomi's graphical interface. But I give you good news: Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G It is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone input, which can also be used as an antenna for the FM radio which is integrated into the device, and is managed by a dedicated application.

Battery and recharge

The battery of Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G BESS it is a large 5160 mAh, more than enough for such a device and slightly larger than the one used in the previous generation. And I admit that I had high expectations about the autonomy of the new Chinese smartphone. Expectations that have been more than exceeded: even with the 120 Hz display, I spent whole days using the smartphone and even reaching 15 hours from the last charge with 30% of battery remaining. In short, without getting lost in too many words, I am convinced that for an average user, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G is one of those smartphones capable of guaranteeing over a day and a half of autonomy.

Good also the quick charge to 67W which, in our tests, managed to make a full charge in about 45 minutes. And no, there is no wireless charging.

Price and considerations

At the time of writing the review, I still have no official news about the price of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G global in Italy. What I can tell you is that on AliExpress it will be possible to buy the three versions in a flash sale starting on February 16th. Prices will be discounted: it starts from 299 dollars (about 262 euros) for the 6/64 GB version, while the 6/128 version costs 329 dollars (about 288 euros) and the 8/128 version costs 349 dollars (about 306 euros). ). In addition, the store will also give a Mi Band to the first 1000 buyers.

Now, if you're wondering if it's worth upgrading from a Note 10 Pro to a Note 11 Pro I'll be direct: no. It is not worth it, because the news are relatively few and even if the processor is more powerful, my advice is to keep your smartphone tight.

However, if you were using a device of the same price range, but purchased perhaps a couple of years ago, then things would change: like every year, this too Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G it is probably the best exponent of its category. It has an extremely solid processor, a good main camera and a great display. Of course, it is a cheap smartphone and there is no doubt about this, but it is a product made with perfect knowledge of the facts and, again, it is probably the first real best buy of this early 2022.
