Dreame W10 review: the first (REAL) "robot mop"

Brace yourselves, because this Dreame W10 it costs 1099 euros. This is the official selling price which, thanks to the link below, you could drop to 889,90 euros by applying the 210 euro coupon directly on the product page on Amazon. And yes, it is a decidedly high price for an equally "innovative" robot vacuum cleaner, if you can say so.

Why yes, the Dreame W10 it could be called the first real "robot mop", thanks to two huge mops that are washed and dried in the huge charging base, but it arrives on the market with some very important waivers and a series of compromises that must be carefully evaluated before purchasing .

To understand the concept of how the Dreame W10, the best thing is to think about the operations that are typically done when washing the floor. First, the dust is wiped off the surface, then the wash cloth is wet, the floor is washed, then it is rinsed and wrung out. And yes, that's basically what this particular robot vacuum cleaner does too.

From the first approach, you immediately notice that the Dreame W10 it is a very different robot from its competitors. The robot itself is no longer circular, but is characterized by a D-shape (very similar to that of the Necato), and the charging base is much larger than all those we have seen to date. The white design with red details still makes it very recognizable, and the circular LASER turret positioned above is the typical one of the company.

Below there are two large circular brushes which act as mop and which rotate at a speed of 180 times per minute: in this way, and also thanks to a mechanical system that allows the Dreame W10 to exert a minimum pressure on the floor, the cleaning of the surface is better.

By lifting the top lid you access the 450 ml dirt container which is not particularly large and certainly not among the largest in circulation, and it is this container that leads us to the first big compromise of this Dreame W10: Although the charging base is huge, this robot does not clean itself. And this is a bit like going back in time: having to empty the dirt container at each wash makes the cleaning automatism a little less "automatic", especially since you will have to do two more operations, but on the charging base, and because to empty the container, the robot must be extracted from the same base each time.

As you may have noticed then, in the robot there is no water container since the brushes are washed directly from the base: and it is precisely the presence of two 4-liter water containers that made it practically impossible for Dreame to integrate a self-emptying system.

These two containers are accessed by lifting the lid of the base, near the small Oled display, and the matter is simple: before each wash the clean water one must be filled, at the end of each wash the dirty water one must be emptied. After that, during the cleaning process, the Dreame W10 will go to rinse and clean the two rotating mops every 5 clean square meters.

You will therefore understand that it is a rather ingenious and maio system seen in a robot vacuum cleaner, which however makes the cleaning process perhaps too "dependent" on the presence of a human being and certainly less fast than that of any other Dreame product: the point that every tot of square meters the robot interrupts the cleaning to rinse the clothes, it wastes a lot of time.

Suction power and washing quality

As for the suction power and the quality of the wash I will be very direct: despite its 4000 Pa, the quality of the suction is a little below that of the Dream Bot Z10 Pro. But, rest assured: it is a problem that you would only notice if you used the robot in suction only mode. Because when you also activate the washing system with water, the Dreame W10 it's practically perfect. The only limit is perhaps along the edges of the floor, an area a bit difficult to reach and in which other competing products do better, but otherwise there is not much to complain about. Dreame W10.

After a cleaning cycle, the floor is actually very clean, both in terms of dust particles and stains, but one thing must be said: not even this Dreame W10 is able to remove the most stubborn stains. The level of cleaning and washing of the floors is certainly very high and is at the top of the category, but with the most important dirt even this model cannot work miracles.

After the latest software update, the Dreame W10 it is now also perfect in avoiding obstacles: initially it happened that it got stuck in front of an object not detected during the mapping phase, but with the latest update things have definitely changed for the better.

At the end of the cleaning then, the robot will carry out a more thorough washing cycle of the two mops, which will also be dried by a hot air system which takes about 3 hours to finish. It is a silent system, and essential to prevent fabrics from becoming impregnated with bad odors.

As well as all the company's products, even the new one Dreame W10 is totally managed by Xiaomi Home, the application of the Xiaomi ecosystem which - in my opinion - has now become a real plus for these products. Through the application you can not only choose the suction power and the amount of water to use, but also every how many square meters the device will have to return to the base to clean the mops.

As in the vast majority of robots managed by the Xiaomi app, rooms are created completely independently and it is possible to associate a name to each room: in this way you can also choose between cleaning in zones or cleaning in rooms, which can also be repeated twice consecutively. It is also possible to decide how often to activate the robot's self-emptying system, or to set the degree of sensitivity of the carpet recognition or the DND (do not disturb) mode.

You can also activate the scheduled cleaning programs, each of which can be customized according to cleaning methods, areas to be cleaned and - clearly - at the time and it is possible to manage with extreme simplicity also the virtual walls and exclusion zones: in this way it will be possible to prevent the robot from cleaning beyond a certain border, or in a particular area of the floor. And yes, the precision with which the vacuum cleaner from Xiaomi follows these directives is centimeter. Good job.

Battery life

To animate the Dreame W10 a huge 6400 mAh battery takes care of it, with which the robot can clean about 300 square meters with a single charge. Considering that, given the cleaning mechanism, it takes 100 minutes to clean about 60 square meters and that it has to return frequently to the base to clean the clothes, that's not bad autonomy.

On the other hand, what is very slow is the recharge time: given the capacity of the battery, a full recharge can take about 6 hours.

Price and considerations

Dreame W10 arrives on the Italian market on 11 February 2022 at a decidedly premium price: 1099 euros. Through the link you find below, however, you could buy it at a discount on Amazon thanks to a coupon that you will have to activate directly on the page and that will drop the price to 889,90. Now, the point is this: is it worth spending all this money on such a robot? The reality is that the Dreame W10 significantly raises the bar in the world of automated floor washing, and will surely become the new benchmark for the standard.

Its washing system also fills the gap it has with its competitors in terms of suction quality, but the whole operating system is still not perfect. You have to empty the dirt manually, you have to remember to fill and empty the water containers at the end of each wash, otherwise the water starts to smell bad, and the fact that the robot completely enters the charging base makes emptying a bit more boring.

In short, the Dreame W10 is the best in the category? Yes, but the human maintenance intervention is still too high for my taste.
