We've been talking about it for months but now it's finally been officially unveiled Honor magic v. An important novelty, given that we are facing the first smartphone folding from Honor. In this we analyze all the news of the first foldable of the company, including technical data, price and availability.
Official Honor Magic V: everything you need to know about the first Honor folding
Design and display
The first folding smartphone of the Chinese house arrives with the name of Honor magic v. It is a top of the range equipped with a flexible display with design infold, i.e. a large screen that folds inwards. Available in Titanium Silver, Black and Burnt Orange colors, the glass cover sports an elegant look and is enclosed in a titanium alloy frame, liquid zirconium metals and carbon fibers. All this for a thickness of 6,7 mm when open (14,3 mm when closed) and a weight of 288 g (Burnt Orange) / 293 g (Titanium Silver, Black).
Turning to the displays, the external panel is from 6,45" with resolution Full HD + (2560 x 1080 pixels) in 21: 9, 431 PPI density and refresh rate at 120 Hz. But the real protagonist is the internal one from 7,9", from 2272 x 1984 pixels with 381 PPI of density and refresh rate 90 Hz. In addition, that of Honor is the first foldable smartphone to receive IMAX Enhanced certification. Both are panels with technology OLED HDR10 +, but provided by Visionox (external) and BOE (internal) respectively.
The opening and closing mechanism of Honor Magic V takes up what was seen with its "predecessor" Huawei Mate X2. The hinge in fact incorporates the teardrop design, reducing the central fold and allowing a closure without spaces between the two parts.
Hardware and software
As a good top of the new generation range, Honor Magic V also brings it with it Snapdragon 8 Gen1. As opposed to OPPO Find N, therefore, we have a SoC a 4 nm produced by Samsung, with octa-core ARMv9 CPU up to 3,0 GHz and an Adreno GPU at 818 MHz. As for memory, we have a single cut of RAM from 12 GB LPDDR5 e 256 / 512 GB UFS 3.1 for non-expandable storage. Everything is cooled by a third generation graphene dissipation system and an AI system that processes the temperature data and adjusts accordingly.
The autonomy sector of the foldable Honor is very tempting, since we find a large one 4.750 mAh equipped with SuperCharge charging support a 66W (0% / 100% in 40 minutes). The connectivity department, then, includes dual SIM 5G, W-Fi 6 Dual Band, Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX HD, USB Type-C 3.1 and NFC. Also worthy of mention is the presence of stereo speaker with DTS: X support.
As for the software, the smartphone features the Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12. The new proprietary UI integrates the AI Magic Live engine, making the smartphone a personal assistant that studies the user's habits and behaviors. What follows is giving him a whole range of data such as reminders on schedules and travel, health and fitness, lifestyle and so on. Being a folding, Honor Magic V has the Multi-Windows system, with which to divide the main screen into multiple windows and consult multiple contents simultaneously. And there is also the AI Smart Intelligent system, which can automatically detect and recommend which content to open in multi-window mode.
But there are also other useful features like OS Turbo X, with which to make the phone more fluid and allow more apps in the background for the same RAM, GPU Turbo X to improve the performance of the GPU and Link Turbo X to make connectivity faster, with also the ability to view the contents of the smartphone on the screen of tablets and notebooks.
With Magic UI 6.0 there are news also on the privacy side, such as disguised geolocation for apps we do not trust or the presence of a chip dedicated to managing biometric data. In this regard, Honor also points out that it is impossible to have access to the phone even by formatting it and rooting it, thanks to this chip. Furthermore, the data contained in the ROM is protected by encryption and therefore irrecoverable, it is not possible to turn it off simply by holding the Power button and with the Find My Device mode it is possible to find it via GPS, as well as block the SIM in advance. But the MagicUI 6.0 also has aesthetic and functional innovations, such as square widgets or folders with 3 × 3 icons to have more on the screen but with less space occupied.
The Honor Magic V camera is represented by a rear compartment composed of a triptych of sensors from 50 + 50 + 50 MP f/1.9-2.2-2.0. The primary is thus approached by a wide angle and a sensor with an improved spectrum, as well as by an 8 × 8 dTOF autofocus system. These sensors are managed byHonor Image Engine introduced for the first time on board of Magic 3. By combining all the data collected by them, the smartphone is able to improve the quality of the shots along the entire available focal length. You will find a detailed explanation in this dedicated article.
For selfie cameras, on the other hand, we have a central punch-hole on the outside and on the right side inside. Either way, the camera has a 42 MP f/ 2.4.
