Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 official: everything you need to know
The new chipset from Qualcomm was presented during the last Tech Summit of the producer, still in progress. As anticipated in recent weeks, the register has changed completely, starting with the name: the high-end solution that will dominate for most of 2022 arrives as Snapdragon 8 Gen1. In terms of improvements over the previous generation we have steps forward on the 5G side, camera, AI, games, audio and security. It starts with a production process a 4 nm, the first big difference compared to the Snap 888 (made at 5 nm). It is also the first SoC with architecture ARMv9; going into the details we find ourselves struggling with an octa-core solution equipped with a core Cortex-X2 a 3.0 GHz, three Performance Cores Cortex-A710 at 2.5 GHz and four Efficiency Cores Cortex-A510 at 1.8 GHz, all with 6 MB of L3 cache. According to what reported by the chipmaker, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 offers improved performance of the 20% and a higher energy efficiency of 30% compared to Qualcomm's previous chipset.
For connectivity we have a modem Snapdragon X65, Qualcomm's fourth generation model can offer up to 10 Gigabit of download transfer speed. Unmissable support for the Wi-Fi 6 e 6E, with technology FastConnect 6900: this translates into a speed of up to 3.6 Gbps and respectable improvements also as regards the stability of the connection.
The chipset integrates a ISP a 18 bit (with Snapdragon Sight technology) and the first smartphone system capable of shooting video in 8K HDR (with HDR10 + support). Another novelty concerns the new system Bokeh Engine, dedicated to Portrait mode videos. The whole is accompanied by a Always-On ISP low consumption, dedicated to features such as Face Unlock.
On the artificial intelligence side, we have the latest processor Hexagon with seventh generation AI engine, four times faster than its predecessor and up to 1.7 times more energy efficient. The new GPU Adreno offers a 30% improvement in rendering capabilities and a 25% improvement in consumption optimization. Bluetooth 5.2 support, Snapdragon Sound technology (with aptX Losless Technology) and the new one complete the package Trust Management Engine, Android Ready SE and much more. There is no lack of support iSIM integrated.
