Almost a month later, OPPO has officially presented the ColorOS 12 Global, i.e. the western version of the major update. It will be on this version of the UI that the updates that will arrive in the coming months on the Italian models will be based, therefore it is an announcement that concerns us closely. We have already been able to test the news in the initial announcement, but this time we have a list of compatible models and their roll-out dates.
OPPO announces the new ColorOS 12 Global: all the news in Android 12 sauce
Based on the latest version of Android 12 of the Google OS, the ColorOS 12 brings with it several new features, even in the Global version. Starting with the introduction of a new aesthetic language, designed with the aim of giving more prominence to the main elements in the UI. A graphic redesign that makes it easier to read and interpret, with greater contrast and adaptive support for 67 languages.
Also from an aesthetic point of view, the 3D icons, created to create a bridge between the real and digital world with clean, delicate lines that also give a sense of depth.
To move the graphical interface there is the new Quantum Animation Engine 3.0. The ColorOS team worked to improve the effects that move the UI, adding 300 animations improved in realism and visual feedback returned. The elements of the UI thus move following their "virtual mass and inertia": for example, by moving a widget slightly it will move by poco, while putting more strength into it it will move further away.
Another advantage of the Quantum Animation Engine 3.0 is called Counter Reaction and aims to help the user understand if an input has actually been registered by the UI. For example, dragging a widget to the edge of the screen will result in a bounce effect. A whole series of effects that aims to return not only a more realistic effect, but also to reduce the feeling of possible lag.
As well as other manufacturers, OPPO has also decided to embrace the world of 3D avatars in the form of Omoji. In addition to creating your own digital character using the facial capture algorithm, you can enrich and customize it with the more than 200 accessories and expressions available.
Omoji that can also be used in the renewed Always-On Display, now more customizable with new presets of watches, drawings but also motivational phrases and Portrait Silhouette (i.e. the Canvas AOD seen on OnePlus).
Moving on to the more functional aspect, ColorOS 12 Global also means PC Connect, the feature that connects smartphone and PC via Bluetooth. This novelty will allow to have a mirroring of the phone on the computer screen, allowing the user to use it to see notifications, move files faster from one device to another and copy / paste texts.
In terms of performance, AI System Booster it is the system that allocates resources better than in the past. For example, scrolling a screen provides the necessary performance to make scrolling as smooth as possible rather than prioritizing background apps. This, combined with the Quantum Animation Engine 3.0, reduces software aging, with 3% aging after 3 years of daily use.
After talking about performance, we also talk about autonomy, because the ColorOS 12 Global adds the functionality One-tap Power Saving. OPPO smartphones will be able to automatically identify which apps are using too much battery and activate the energy saving plan with a click.
Among the novelties we also find Clone Phone 2.0, an update that allows the use of a single QR Code to move all files from the old smartphone to the new OPPO.
There is a new update for the Phone Manager in the ColorOS 12 Global, now able to manage not only memory and virus protection, but also all other elements related to the security and privacy of the device.
In this regard, with ColorOS 12 Global and Android 12 come the on-screen indicators which informing us which app it is using microphone e camera. And in case there is something abnormal, a click in the Quick Toggles is enough to block access.
OPPO also added a anti-spy system for notifications. Taking advantage of the front camera, if the smartphone detects that someone else besides you is looking at the screen, the contents of the notifications will be hidden. Not only that: the major update also adds the possibility of using the disguised geolocation, giving apps a general area instead of the specific point of our GPS location. Inside the Privacy Dashboard, then, there will be a history of all the apps that have had access to the camera, microphone and GPS position. OPPO has also specified that it is working alongside Google to guarantee 4 years of security updates for some models and at least 3 for all others.
Among the other new implementations of ColorOS 12 Global we also find the function of screen translation, accessible via the Smart Sidebar. Once activated, it will take care of instantly translating the writings that are present on the screen at that moment.
There is no shortage of news also for the accessibility sector, with the ColorOS 12 Global that adds 24 tools to help the use of the smartphone for those who have sensory problems.
