There are many valid allies, in fact, who help to keep order even when we are not there: these accessories are called “robot vacuum cleaners”. Even if they appeared on the market a few years ago, they have already won the trust of many users and, unexpectedly, also of rather noble companies. Almost all, in fact, have gradually launched into the production of their own models, increasingly attacking the competition. This is why, to date, the number of devices of this type has grown dramatically, just as happened even before in the smartphone sector. Not everyone, however, can afford such objects for economic reasons, but not only. Sometimes, therefore, the spaces are very limited: some people live in very small houses, where machines of this type could have difficulty moving. Some of these products, in fact, occupy a fair surface. How would things change, though, if there were more compact and equally powerful models? Most likely this is the question asked by the technicians who decided to design the new one Lefant F1. This robot vacuum cleaner, therefore, answers this question, offering small dimensions and a highly respectable suction power. Unboxing

As can be seen from the size of the robot, the sales package is rather compact. There is no design that suggests the design of the product, although the external coloring recalls some details at the end. Some features, then, have been imprinted along the side frames but in general it is a rather minimal packaging. Inside, therefore, we find the following accessories:

Design & Materials

I want to describe the first thing I thought when I opened the package, also because it is quite simple to imagine. Having tried so many similar products over the years I expected something different, and instead it was a surprise. Lefant F1, in fact, is really very small and it is something that, from the first moment, left me speechless. I hadn't seen a similar machine in terms of design yet, so I was pretty excited about it. This robot, therefore, actually measures only 280 x 280 x 76,5 mm thick. Handling it it almost looks like a toy, it is so compact and light. Despite this, the brand wanted to give its own touch to the design, covering it with a surface in plastic, opaque, which reveals many white spots, just like those on the package. It stands out, therefore, from the crowd since most robot vacuum cleaners show a glossy glass top surface. In addition to attracting a lot of dust, however, these terminals are likely to be damaged much more easily in the long run.

Despite the fact that the company has opted, therefore, for plastic, I must admit that at a construction level we are at excellent levels. This robot appears to be very robust, not showing any kind of uncertainty from an assembly point of view. However, it seems clear to me that no matter how compact it is, it is necessary for this product to integrate some absolutely essential accessories. Let's see, therefore, how they are present on the upper part two physical keys, one of ON / OFF and the other for thetimer setting. Poco underneath, on the other hand, they find space three LEDs white that indicate the status of the robot and the battery level. Proceeding further down, finally, we have the clips that allows us to access, as well as extract, the compartment for the dirt from 600ml. Again, therefore, we deviate from many other competing products that usually show such access on the back. Here, however, this surface is smooth and interspersed with only two ventilation grids.

Where are i anti-collision sensors? They are all arranged in front, inside the shiny surface that runs almost half a turn around the robot's structure. Below it, then, we have the classic rubber strip that protects the bumper and prevents it from being irreparably damaged by bumping into some object violently. Below these components we find, then, the omnidirectional wheel, the magnetic pins and the various anti-fall sensors, as well as the two side brushes placed at the same distance. The initial equipment is completed by the hole for the entry of dirt, the drive wheels and the two attachments for the possible addition of damp cloths with which to wash the house.

Application & Functionality

Let's take a look at the management of this robot vacuum cleaner which, for almost everything, must be set up via its smartphone application. This is called "Lefant Life”And allows us, first of all, to configure the device in the initial phase. Obviously, all the other robots of the brand are also compatible, which in the case can always be managed at the same time by this app. However, it is not one of the best applications ever seen in this field, since even only on a graphic level it does not stand out particularly. Taking a look at the interface, in fact, we notice the presence of some essential functions and an Italian translation that is not always impeccable. Despite this, however, everything is in place and ready to use. Let's see, therefore, how the home offers the possibility of turning on the device, putting it in standby, activating various cleaning modes and finally accessing the settings.

Going into the settings we find some items, such as Air Display, Sensivity, Robot Search, Cleaning Record and Timer. As you can see, therefore, the Italian translation leaves something to be desired. With the first option, in essence, it is possible to increase or decrease the suction power, while with Sensivity you make the robot much more attentive (or less attentive) to everything around it. By modifying the latter option, however, I honestly did not register any important changes. Beyond this, however, I must admit that I would have expected something more on the software side since we have a few weapons at our disposal. In fact, even the cleaning methods themselves are essential: Smart, Chance, Wall following (follow the walls), Spiral e Manual. Lefant F1 allows, therefore, to be able to be operated manually through the usual commands on the screen, on our smartphone.

After the configuration phase, which takes a couple of minutes, the robot is ready to be used. Gradually, therefore, it will scan the whole house and, in the meantime, it will vacuum its surface. Beyond this, however, we will not have any additional control over the device, not being able to set some off-limits areas or surfaces within which not to clean. We only have a magnetic strip available, supplied, which allows us to artificially recreate these areas. Therefore, we cannot set any of this via software, a function that honestly would have been useful but which, in my opinion, was not introduced due to the technical limitations of the machine. In fact, there is no system here LiDAR for scanning the surrounding area, usually positioned on a central turret, therefore the management of movements and the detection of any obstacles in the environment becomes more complicated. The technology used by Lefant F1 is called FreeMove 3.0 but, in my opinion, it is less precise and functional than that present on most other robot vacuum cleaners, namely the LiDAR technology. Through the app, however, it is possible to set Google Assistant by interacting with the robot even only with our voice and imparting actions in a much simpler and faster way.

Suction Power & Operation

You will have noticed the lack, as already mentioned poco ago, of the turret equipped with LiDAR technology. This is usually introduced on such systems to help the robot move and scan the surrounding area. This Lefant F1, however, does not have it so it must rely only on the anti-collision sensors placed on the front. Reason why the management of the cleaning area is not exactly optimal, often taking more than necessary for the cleaning of a single room. Despite this, during the operations, the house will be scanned and cleaned in every part, even in the most remote corners, sometimes performing several steps in the same area. I remind you, in any case, how the suction power is of 4.000 Pa, therefore superior to that of many of its competing devices. Thanks to it, therefore, you will have no problems sucking up every type of grain without difficulty, even the largest ones such as rice or coffee grains. By operating the fan at maximum power, then, the suction becomes even more effective, even if in this case you will have to deal with a greater consumption of the battery and with a more disruptive noise. At maximum power, in fact, even 68 db are touched.

Let's say that, speaking of mapping, we are on quite coarse levels of precision. Taking a look at the map, in fact, it seems clear that the robot does not pay so much attention to this aspect, worrying more about cleaning every tile in the room. What did not convince me at all, however, is the operating principle of this product: if at a certain moment you decide to pause the robot, all previous data are lost and the machine returns to perform a scan starting from scratch. Or rather, this is what one thinks of looking at the robot's movements and the map on the phone, since this is completely erased. It would have been much better, therefore, to have always had the data of the first part of the scan available, then restarting from it.

Lefant F1 integrates a 600 ml dirt container which is able to guarantee a good autonomy. With an apartment of approx 100mq, in fact, there is the possibility to go on for a whole week without any problem. In addition to this, the brand also offers two washing kits in the package, consisting of two cloths soaked in a particular detergent substance. These must be applied to the back of the robot, by means of a special structure, subsequently activating the classic washing mode. Obviously, this is a much less functional system than the more classic one, with the tank filled with water that manages the flow. Despite this, in emergency situations, it can certainly be useful. Pay attention only to how you use them and, above all, not to waste them because they are disposable.

Autonomy

On board this robot mounts a battery da 3.600 mAh which allows us to clean the whole house without problems. With about 100 square meters available, in fact, the device can easily operate several times with the same program, taking about an hour. Not having a very advanced navigation system, in fact, he sometimes wastes too much time between chairs or in the most confined spaces, always managing to come out of it autonomously. However, it also always depends on what type of cleaning program you use and on the suction power chosen. Increasing the speed, in fact, drastically decreases the battery life, forcing the robot to return to the charging base much more frequently.

We have seen in the course of this review, as well as in the video, what are the peculiarities of this machine. This robot vacuum cleaner, therefore, in terms of dimensions does not fear rivals, resulting much more agile and reaching practically every corner. This is why many may prefer it to more classic and decidedly bulkier solutions. On the other hand, however, let's say that we must also make some compromises, especially from the point of view of artificial intelligence. In this respect, in fact, the fluidity of movements and the ability to perform some actions more quickly is still lacking. I believe that the lack of a LiDAR system is not to be underestimated in this aspect, even if in any case the robot performed well on every surface and on every occasion. Sometimes it takes longer to break free from obstacles but, in the end, it still achieves its purpose. Therefore, I advise you to give it at least one chance during the purchase phase, given the good quality-price ratio.
