The arrival of OPPO FIND X3 PRO replenishes the already large group of leading smartphones in the photographic field and many are already awaiting the verdict of DxOMark. A portal that often raises controversy about the reliability of its evaluations and that could see the creation of a rival from China. Despite this, the guys from DxOMark usually test all the reference camera phones, as well as medium / high-end smartphones that are housed in the less premium category.
Upgrade 15 / 06: after the controversy of the past few months, DxOMark returns to talk about the photographic sector of OPPO Find X3 Pro. Find everything at the end of the article.
DxOMark is testing OPPO Find X3 Pro, but there are some anomalies
Since its presentation, the photographic sector of OPPO Find X3 Pro has aroused some perplexity, not so much on the quality (yet to be evaluated) as on the configuration. One of the flagships of OPPO flagships was the adoption of a periscopial telephoto lens, also present on board the last Find X2 Pro. On the latest X3 Pro, however, the manufacturer has decided to follow a more conversative line, relying on a more modest telephoto with 2x optical zoom. This automatically places it behind competitors from Xiaomi, Samsung and Huawei in terms of pure focal length.
We find another oddity in the wide-angle lens. OPPO has implemented a 1 / 1,56 ″ sensor, the same 50 MP as the main camera. This in itself is good, minimizing the qualitative disparity between standard and ultra-wide angle shots. However, DxOMark shows a narrow FoV of 15 mm, equal to 110 ° and less wide than the 128 ° of the Mi 10 Ultra, the 123 ° of the Mi 11 or the 120 ° of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. In addition, such a large sensor for a wide angle is likely to have problems with sharpness in the corners of the photos.
What are the best of OPPO Find X3 Pro?
But apart from that, the DxOMark survey highlights what are the leaps forward in the OPPO Find X3 Pro camera. Snapdragon 888 includes a triple ISP, with an image processor that can thus process three streams of images simultaneously. Being able to merge the data received from multiple sensors, for example, the zoom between the various focal lengths is more fluid. The Qualcomm SoC also guarantees faster processing of captured frames, with better algorithms HDR and multi-frame noise reduction.
OPPO has also focused heavily on support 10-bit combined between display and camera, thus being able to obtain HEIF photos with 1 billion colors. Color space is used DCI-P3, thus being able to boast a better saturation than the more traditional sRGB. A wider dynamic range also for videos, being able to record in Rec. 2020.
For the sensors, on OPPO Find X3 Pro we find a brand new Sony IMX766 co-engineered between the two companies. a 50 MP Quad-Bayer. Technically, this sensor also looks like a I step back slightly compared also to Find X2 Pro. On the last top, the sensor was 1 / 1,43 "and with 1,12 µm pixels, while on X3 Pro it is 1 / 1,56" and with 1,0 µm pixels . This may involve more complicated noise management, but that's all to be seen in the full review of DxOMark (and ours) that will arrive in the next few days.
DxOMark apologizes: will review its preview of Find X3 Pro | Update 15/03
Following the preview chat of DxOMark su OPPO FIND X3 PRO, the American entity took a step back and publicly apologized on Weibo declaring to have omitted the presence of free-form optics which in reality the new top of the range would be equipped instead.
This will lead to a new review of what was evaluated and obviously will lead to a very different review than what was announced at the beginning. This move had also resulted OnePlus to choose to do not send the 9 series under evaluation at DxOMark out of solidarity with the allied brand. What is being asked now is: even the same company as Pete Lau Will he back down after the apology?
Here comes the "real" evaluation | Update 15/06
At the beginning of 2021 the first summary evaluation of DxOMark on the OPPO Find X3 Pro camera had spoken negatively. Now, after months of the criticisms received, the Parisian team has revised the shot, publishing the complete evaluation.
With a score of 131 points, OPPO Find X3 Pro enters the top 10 of DxOMark by right, as expected given the investments made by OPPO. On a par with the "cousin" vivo X50 Pro +, is defined as one of the best ever tested so far, with valuable aspects such as the excellent quality of exposure offered. The score of 139 in the photos is a symbol of excellent scores in all compartments tested, especially when it comes to color, focus, detail, bokeh and artifact control. The dynamic range is also very appreciable in practically any light condition.
Among the less positive aspects there is a slight noise visible in various contexts, although it is nothing penalizing. In low-light situations, the focus is not always snappy and the white balance may not be optimal. When it comes to additional sensors, the zoom quality is very good but not exceptional, while the wide angle stands out from the crowd with excellent shots.
Moving on to the video quality, OPPO Find X3 Pro gets 111 points, confirming itself as an excellent choice for capturing clips as well. The points of merit are fast and precise autofocus, fluid tracking of the subject and an often effective stabilization. Details and noise are well controlled, the color is pleasant, the exposure is good, although there is some instability and some underexposure and white imbalance in low light.
