Small premise: those who have known me for some time will know that in fact I have never been a fan of Samsung's smartphones. Except the Note series which has always had a small piece of my heart, I've always seen the South Korean company chasing Apple and the “style” of its iPhones. This, however, until a couple of years ago. Because there is no doubt: with the arrival of the now dated S10, Samsung has entered the fifth and has totally upset its lineup top of the range, both in terms of design and materials and in terms of software.
Okay, the S20 Ultra is not that it was among my favorite devices of 2020, but it served to lay the foundations of what today are the Galaxy S21, and all the exponents of the series, including theS21 + el 'S21 Ultra. And in our industry you need to be blunt: Samsung's new flagships not only look good and are powered by a new Exynos that promises to stand up to the Snap 888, but they introduce a host of software features that actually improve the experience user or, at least, convey that sense of "novelty". And it is not something poco, considering the extremely flat period the world of mobile telephony is experiencing.
The functions of the Samsung Galaxy S21 that will make you want to buy it
It's a fact that it's the little things that make the difference. In the new Samsung Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra A function has been integrated, for now still in beta, which could change the life of many of those people who love taking pictures with their smartphone. Is called Rubber object and in a nutshell it allows you to remove all unwanted objects or people in one click with a single touch.
Yes, of course, other applications allow you to do this, but Samsung's is a step forward not only because having it integrated into the smartphone without having to download other apps makes the user experience much more linear, but above all because the solution proposed by the company South Korean is one incredible simplicity.
Just open the photo you want to edit (and yes, it works with all photos, not just the ones you just took but also the older ones), enter the editing mode activating and selecting the item Rubber object and that's it: by tapping on the unwanted object, the smartphone will delete it in a few moments.
It's a bit like what happens with Photoshop's "content aware fill" function and, of course, the results obtained with the S21 are not at the level of those obtained with the Adobe app, but immediacy and simplicity of this function make it suitable for everyone, even the less experienced.
With the new ones Galaxy S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra, Samsung also introduced the SmartTag, of the very small Bluetooth trackers that help to find lost objects such as keys, wallets and practically anything else even at distances well above the range limit of the Bluetooth, exploiting in a completely anonymous way all the other Samsung devices nearby using the ultrawideband connectivity (UWB) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
Well, the point is this: with these new trackers, those from Samsung have also introduced a new section in Smart Things with which you can manage the functionality, which is compatible not only with SmartTags, but with most Samsung devices.
Not having a SmartTag available, we tested it with a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and, also in this case, the simplicity is disarming: just start the mode, choose the device you want to locate and thanks to an extremely easy to interpret graphic interface you will be guided to the place where the object is.
And if he couldn't be found, he could be done make a sound at very high volume, in order to simplify searches.
Another of the novelties of the Galaxy S21, made possible thanks to the new Exynos 2100, is a new video recording mode called Director View. In a nutshell, with this mode it will be possible to record videos in 4K at 60fps, with all cameras at the same time.
To use Director's View, just start the Camera application, enter the section relating to the various shooting and recording modes and select the item: in this way, not only can you record with the front and rear cameras at the same time, but you will have previews of the shots of all the cameras available, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.
Zoom Lock is the answer to one of the most annoying problems related to zooming in smartphones: frame stabilization. And the speech is simple, with this function you can "freeze" the shot while zooming in order to be able to perfectly frame the desired subject.
This novelty is available on both Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, which in S21 + and S21, it could probably also be integrated into the S20 series with the update to One UI 3.1, and it is extremely simple to use: once you have set a zoom of 20x or higher and framed the subject you want to photograph, just tap on the viewfinder that appears at the top left to freeze the frame and get a shot without any micro blur.
The other innovations of the S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra camera
The news, however, does not end there. With the S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra, those of Samsung have introduced a whole series of changes in the photographic sector, which go beyond simple megapixels. It was improved Single Shot mode, which allows you to record photos and videos in a completely autonomous and optimized way, it is now possible to use the night mode with all cameras, you can shoot in 12-bit RAW mode, but only with the main sensor of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.
The registration continues to be present 8K video to 24 fps, from which images can be extrapolated a 33 megapixel, which was joined by the ability to record videos in HDR and stabilization that, in general, is among the best we've ever tried.
