Which Android manufacturer updates security patches the most?

android security patch

We often talk about the much requested Android updates, but don't forget the security patches. The Google team checks and fixes the security flaws found in the mobile OS. These flaws consist of errors and / or holes in software programming, which can be exploited by malicious actors. Thanks to the open source nature of Android, not only Google but also cyber-security centers can find and report them. As a result, related patches are then developed and a bulletin to inform producers. Given the fragmented nature of Android, each manufacturer must take these patches and integrate them on their smartphones. From time to time, therefore, updates are released that include these patches, usually on a monthly basis. Also because, despite the fact that major Android updates are interrupted after a certain period, manufacturers can (and should) continue to release these patches.

It can therefore happen that a smartphone from years ago is stopped at an old version of Android but occasionally receives an update with the latest patches. This is because it is easier to port these patches, not suffering from the commercial policies and hardware limitations that push manufacturers not to update the Android version. Because it is important that manufacturers integrate the latest security patches? Otherwise, the owner of a smartphone stopped in past versions runs a greater risk in being able to fall victim to the aforementioned flaws. Clearly we do not want to create alarmism: not having the latest patches does not imply having a smartphone that will certainly be hacked, but there is no doubt that the risk is greater. It must also be taken into account that every manufacturer (or almost) has its own personal bulletin, since there may be flaws that exclusively affect the devices of that brand.

For the moment, the list only covers the September, October and November patches. But over time we will add future updates to keep it as “fresh” as possible.
