It's been a while since our last review of a Xiaomi router. A few years ago we tested it Xiaomi Mi Router Pro, the Xiaomi Mi Router 4 Pro and Xiaomi Mi Router Mini 3, but things have changed a lot since then. And they have changed not only for the evolution of WiFi standards, but also for the quality of the Chinese company's products which, over time, have reached a level that can compete with the sacred monsters of the category, produced by the most famous brands in this sector of the market.
Lo Xiaomi AIoT AX3600 it is just that. It's great WiFi router 6, of gigantic dimensions, which with its 7 antennas promises to be able to “go through walls” with the WiFi signal it generates. Will he succeed? And above all, being a WiFi 6 router of Chinese origin, does it have the much discussed 160 MHz band?
Xiaomi AIoT AX6 WiFi 3600 router review
So at first glance, you might think that the packaging of the Xiaomi AIoT AX3600 is far too big for a "simple router". The point is that the product of the Chinese company is anything but "simple". And it will be enough to open it to understand that the dimensions are due to the same dimensions of the device, very large, which in the package is positioned horizontally with all the antennas already connected.
In addition, an ethernet cable cat. 5e and the power supply that - in the product we tested - has Chinese plug: you will need a simple universal adapter to use it in Italy, because it is still a 110 and 240 V power supply.
Design and construction materials
The design of the Xiaomi AIoT AX6 WiFi 3600 router you may like it or not. It is clear, however, that the presence of all the large antennas is due to obvious technological needs, but it is the "gianduiotto" shape which, in reality, is justified by a very important detail: the body is in plastic and on the upper area of the router there is an air hole, through which the flow for hardware cooling.
Anyway, the materials are of excellent workmanship and the large grill positioned below the device also takes care of optimizing heat dissipation. In short, it is a very powerful router, with prominent hardware that needs to be well cooled.
The antennas in total 7 sleep and have very specific tasks: the central one, on which an LED has been positioned that you can choose whether to keep active or not when the router is active, is intended for IoT device management (unfortunately, only from Xiaomi), there are then two antennas for the 2.4 GHz network and four antennas for the 5 GHz network, all equipped with PA power amplifiers e LNA low noise amplifiers, integrated to ensure a constant signal with little loss.
Hardware, data sheet and signal strength
Thanks to the SoC Qualcomm IPQ8071A, 512 MB of RAM memory e 256 MB of internal memory, Xiaomi AIoT AX6 WiFi 3600 router it can handle the connection well 248 devices at the same time. And, in short, the power of the 64-Bit quad-core chip equipped with a dual-core NPU and chips QCN5024 (for 2.4 GHz networks) which is flanked by a QCN5054 (for 5 GHz networks), these are factors that very positively influence the user experience you have with the router which, among other things, is called AX3600 precisely to emphasize that it is able to manage the 802.1ax protocol, i.e. the new generation of WiFi 6 standards.

The total bandwidth is 3559 Mbps, deriving from the 574 Mbps of the 2.4 GHz, from the 2402 Mbps of the 5 GHz and from the 150 Mbps and 433 Mbps of the IoT antenna, also dual band. And it is clear that, thanks to the support of the standard 1024-QAM, the bandwidth in WiFi 6 is considerably wider than that of typical WiFi 5, which uses the 256-QAM standard. Thanks to technology OFDMA + MU-MIMO in addition, the limits of manageable devices of the now old technology have been overcome.
And if you are wondering if really the benefits of these new standards are tangible in everyday life, the answer is yes: I tested the quality of the WiFi 6 network with a Lenovo notebook and, above all, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, getting results exceptional.
Interference management is also good, thanks to the support of technology BSS coloring, which makes the quality of the network generated by the Xiaomi AIoT AX6 WiFi 3600 router of the highest level and always stable, even in my home built with a load-bearing masonry structure that, until today, I have always defined the anti Wi-Fi. Well, with this router I have solved most of the WiFi signal problems in the different rooms.
In short, replace a traditional router with the new one router WiFi 6 Xiaomi AIoT AX3600 it will bring nothing but benefits. And not only because it will be possible to take advantage of WiFi 6 connections, but also because in terms of coverage, stability and speed of connections the improvements will be substantial. The 2.4 GHz network guarantees an exceptional range to say the least, while the 5 GHz, albeit more limited in terms of range, in my case managed to cover practically the entire house, which is impossible to achieve with the Google WiFi mesh system. I have been using it for years.
Configuring and managing the router
Il Xiaomi AIoT AX6 WiFi 3600 router can be managed both via the web interface (via the device address which, typically, is 192.168.1.1, to be entered in the browser) or via WiFi me, a free app available for both iOS and Android (and which you can download here). And the differences between these two possibilities are substantial: the web interface is available exclusively in Chinese language (but you can easily translate it with Google Translate), while the application is available in Italian too and allows you to manage all the features available in the web mode, but with a much simpler and cloud-based interface. You do not need to be connected to the modem's WiFi network to be able to change its settings.
Going to the point though, configuring the router is very simple and completely automatic. Although the instruction manual is currently only available in Chinese, just connect the WAN cable, the power cable and turn on the device. My advice is then to proceed using the smartphone application, with which not only you can change all the settings of the case about the settings of NAT, firewall, port forwarding and so on, but you can also choose to use the WPA3 encryption protocol, a new, much more secure standard that can also be used simultaneously with the older and more compatible WPA2, in order to make it possible for older devices to access the network.
You can also choose to manage dual band WiFi networks in two ways. You can separate the frequencies so that two networks are created, or have the router generate a unified one, and decide - depending on the device - to which to connect the different clients on the network.
And now we come to the most important point (for some users): the Xiaomi AIoT AX6 WiFi 3600 router can manage the 160 MHz band? The answer is yes. But, in this case, the activation of this frequency can only take place through the web interface of the device: I don't know for what arcane reason, when you try to configure the router bands via the app, the 160 MHz frequency does not appear, but you can activate it without any problem via the web interface. Strange but true.
Price and conclusions - Xiaomi AIoT AX6 WiFi 3600 router
The price of the router WiFi 6 Xiaomi AIoT AX3600 is $ 139,99 on Bangood, but with our coupon (which you can find below) you can buy it for 110 euros. Which is not bad, especially considering the quality of the product and the real benefits that such a router could bring to your home connection: just think of ping, which decreased substantially in our tests. A detail that for many could mean little, but that in online games is of vital importance and that in fact has always been the Achilles' heel for WiFi connections.
It is undoubtedly one of the WiFi 6 routers powered by a Qualcomm chip with the best value for money in circulation, design may or may not like, but the quality of the product is undoubtedly undisputed. It is chock full of features, coverage of dual-band networks is outstanding, and is compatible with WPA3 and OFDMA + MU-MIMO technologies. If we really wanted to find a fault, it could be there total lack of USB ports, which totally preclude the possibility of sharing devices or printers via the local network.
