We can not certainly say that OnePlus 5 e 5T are properly models in step with the times, having arrived on the market in 2017. Almost certainly, since 3 years have passed since their debut, they will not be updated to Android 11 (but there are already custom ROMs). But that would not mean that no further updates will be released, especially regarding security patches.

Since the last major update ad Android 10 for OnePlus 5 and 5T no noteworthy updates have arrived. A new update was recently expected to arrive, but this was not the case, not respecting the expected schedule. For this reason the moderators of the OnePlus forum have expressed themselves on the matter, trying to alleviate the controversy that arose in the community. While having a rather high priority in development, the latter Stable OxygenOS for OnePlus 5 and 5T has been tested internally with non-positive results.
Hence the choice of postpone its release, avoiding to release a build that is not complete or includes more or less relevant bugs. The developer team is carrying out the testing work and will communicate the release time window to the public as soon as possible.
