The times when smartphones were characterized by seem far away photo sensors on average from 12/16 MP and which hardly pushed to 20 MP. To date it is instead more likely to buy a phone with a camera from 48 MP, if not even higher. And it is not surprising that we are already talking about the next sensors from 144 MP, 150 MP e 192 MP, mainly driven by Sony's technological development. Obviously too Samsung it wants to have its say, as the launch of the new shows ISOCELL GN1.

Samsung launches the new ISOCELL GN1 photo sensor

Already with the Samsung GW1 and HM1 we have witnessed a powerful leap forward, given that we are talking about 64 MP and 108 MP sensors. With this in mind, Samsung ISOCELL GN1 stands in the middle, being a sensor from 50 MP. We specify that all high resolution sensors are born with the desire to use them in order not to shoot at maximum resolution. This is because, due to their structural nature, the results would not be optimal due to too small pixels. On the contrary, the techniques of Pixel Binning they allow to join them and obtain larger than average pixels.

This is why manufacturers implement lower resolution shooting modes in order to take advantage of this mode. Even Samsung ISOCELL GN1 does not escape this trend, implementing the function Tetracell 4-in-1. Shooting at 12.5 MP you get photos with pixels at 2.4 μm, thanks also to an already improved starting base. Compared to the 0.8 μm of the 48 MP sensors, the Samsung one has pixels from 1.2 μm: this allows night photos with higher performances.

Another advantage of this type of sensors lies in the ability to focus. In this case the system adopted is Dual Pixel PDAF, taking advantage of all the pixels present for optimal autofocus, especially in low light. From a technical point of view, Samsung ISOCELL GN1 has dimensions of 1 / 1.3 ", slightly larger than the 108 MP we find on the S20 Ultra. The function of is also mentioned Smart-ISO, able to intelligently select the most appropriate ISO value. There is no shortage of features like theHDR in real time, EIS stabilization linked to the gyroscope and video support 8K is 30 fps.

Probably the first smartphones that will mount it will arrive in 2020 and we would not be surprised that one of the first was registered Xiaomi. Not surprisingly, the aforementioned 1 MP Samsung HM108 made its own debut on Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro, known by us as Xiaomi Mi Note 10.
