Huawei Mate 30 Pro updates ... with the December patches?

Huawei Mate 30 Pro

The advent of Huawei Mate 30Mate 30 Pro represented the beginning of the split between Huawei and Google. The US ban has hit the latest top of the Asian house, preventing them from owning Google services, with all the implications of the case. Consequently, the Huawei Mobile Services they replace Google Mobile Services, with a firmware that is based on the AOSP version of Android. This means that, in addition to missing the Gapps, the security updates are not guaranteed by Google. However, the changelog of the latest update to EMUI 10.0.0.181 makes mention of the introduction of the December patch.

The latest update for Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro has raised doubts

At this point one wonders how this is possible, given the aforementioned shortcomings. Huawei has previously released a list containing smartphones that will continue to receive monthly security updates:

  • Huawei P30, P30 Pro, P20, P20 Pro
  • Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X, Mate 20 RS, Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate RS Porsche Design
  • Honor 20, 20 Pro, View 20, 10, View 10

The Huawei Mate 30 series is missing, for which the company has not professed to do so. At least to date, given that the team of Huawei Central asked for clarification on this, receiving this official statement:

"We will continue to provide security updates to protect all Huawei devices. The Huawei Mate 30 series includes mobile services for complete Huawei scenarios such as Huawei AppGallery, Huawei Browser and the new Huawei Assistant. AppGallery features a four-level detection mechanism that includes detection of malicious behavior, control of privacy and scanning of security vulnerabilities to ensure that the apps on the platform are safe to download and use."

An answer that is not entirely clear but which suggests that the December security patches are not Google's, contrary to what one might normally think. The patches in question would only concern the ecosystem of theAppGalley, or the Huawei store, alternative to Play Store. This could mean that the vulnerabilities covered are not the same as the apps on the Google store. If you have a Mate 30 Pro and install external APKs, then, you may not be covered from a cyber security point of view.
