GizAwards 2019: here are the end of year awards

Huawei Mate X

2019 proved to be quite profitable in terms of innovation. We had prototype like Meizu Zero e I live APEX 2019, without forgetting the equally stunning Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha. But the first place in this category can only go to Huawei Mate X which, together with Samsung's Galaxy Fold, inaugurated the exciting category of folding smartphones. Of course, for both there was no lack of problems deriving from the almost prototype nature, but it is the price to pay for wanting to be the first to amaze the audience.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro

Awarded by DxOMark like Mate 30 Pro, We have choosen Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro for the desire to aim high from the photographic point of view. Marketed in China as Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition, it is a smartphone that has demonstrated rather marked ambitions, with a decidedly above average quality of shots. Compared to the top of the Huawei range, then, the configuration of the penta camera has a large 108 MP sensor, but also a 5X telephoto lens more pushed than Huawei. We can't wait to find out how this will mirror the future My 10.

OPPO Reno 2

If in 2018 it was Mi 8 Pro that stole our heart from an aesthetic point of view, on this tour it is OPPO Reno 2 to win this award. Of course, there is already a third model in circulation, but it is chapter 2 of the Reno series that convinces us more. In a world where smartphones are increasingly similar to each other, Reno 2 manages to stand out and does it with a certain elegance. Not only is the rear part fascinating, with its central finish with a halogen flavor, but it is the "shark fin" selfie camera that gives that touch of originality that never hurts.

ASUS ROG Phone 2

When it comes to performance, it would seem almost obvious to aim for the latest top of the OnePlus range. And instead this 2019 saw the arrival of a contender decidedly up to the point of view of power. I refer to ASUS ROG Phone 2, whose almost exaggerated dimensions (240 g in weight!) hide a technical system that satisfies even the most demanding users. Starting from the phenomenal 120 Hz panel with 240 Hz touch sampling, supported by a configuration with Snapdragon 855+ and up to 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of fast storage. Without forgetting the gigantic 6000 mAh battery, with an autonomy that we didn't see on a top of the range I don't know how much. But not only brute force: ROG Phone 2 is a gaming phone with all the trappings, including steam cooling, pressure sensitive buttons and accessories that make it a real portable console.

Realme X2 Pro

When Realme X2 Pro was unveiled, we all understood that the "flagship killer" scepter was going to him. Who said that you have to spend 1000 € to get a top of the range? Certainly not Realme, which wanted to break the market by offering a product with Snapdragon 855+, quad camera with telephoto lens and wide angle, an AMOLED display at 90 Hz and a 4000 mAh with 50W charging from only € 399 in Italy.

Huawei P30 Pro

We conclude with the phone that has demonstrated greater all-round qualities. From this point of view we would have liked to insert Huawei Mate 30 Pro, but the problems with Google cannot make us prefer it to a more concrete one Huawei P30 Pro. It has practically everything you could ask for from a phone: a nice curved OLED display with ID sensor below, a powerful Kirin 980 with top connectivity, expandable memory, a quad camera without sacrifices, a very long-lasting battery and capable of charge quickly, even wirelessly.

OnePlus 7T Pro

For this edition of the GizAwards we wanted to give a voice to you readers who follow us on Instagram (and if you don't, here you can fix it). The survey we did in the Stories proclaimed another winner as the best smartphone, that is OnePlus 7T Pro. Curved display Quad HD + at 90 Hz, Snapdragon 855+ and a complete triple camera represent a succulent package and suitable for even the finest palates.
