You will probably remember Google Duplex, the artificial intelligence system developed by Big G that left everyone speechless at Google I / O 2018. But given that the US giant is historically absent in China, Xiaomi he thought well of having his own AI Assistant replace the role. This means that Lei Jun's company is testing it for answer calls instead of the user.
Xiaomi's AI Assistant can answer calls for you
These screenshots show us the changes made to the Phone app interface. An ad hoc button was inserted inside it, which can be activated from the MIUI Lab section of a version of MIUI that is not well specified. In the event that someone is calling us but is unable to respond, making a swipe on the corresponding icon will replace AI Assistant. At this point the Xiaomi AI system will handle the call, although the features are more limited than those of Google Duplex.
AI Assistant is in fact able to understand the words spoken by our interlocutor, but not to respond in full autonomy. The answers are in fact pre-set by the user, giving way to write standard phrases for situations where the phone cannot be answered. However, if the AI Assistant does not find the right answer for the conversation, it may provide you with suggestions.
Clearly this is a rather considerable novelty for the Xiaomi ecosystem but exclusively for Chinese users, since AI Assistant does not speak English. Furthermore, when it is made public, it is not yet known, given that these are unofficial leaks. That may already be the MIUI 11 to reveal something more to us?
