La Mi series is in continuous expansion and after having seen the top model, that is Xiaomi Mi 9, and the compact one, Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, here is that another list is added to the list: Xiaomi Mi 9T. We still haven't fully understood what that is for "T"Perhaps "Turbo" or "Tamarro" or even "Take-my-money"? Personally I think that this last version could also be very good because the smartphone in question has really many qualities, although there are some small imperfections. Let's find out more in our full review!
Xiaomi Mi 9T Review
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Unboxing
The sales package is different from the usual, as it is made of black cardboard and on the top we find the representation of the smartphone. Inside, instead, the equipment remains the one to which Xiaomi he has always used us, that is:
- Xiaomi Mi 9T;
- quality TPU cover;
- wall power supply with support for the Quick Charge 3.0;
- USB cable - USB Type-C;
- pin for the SIM slot;
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Design and construction
When I argued that the "T" could stay for "Tamarro" there was a reason, as the back cover in glass has been worked in such a way as to guarantee beautiful play of light, although the look is a lot showy and not exactly as elegant as, for example, OPPO Reno.
Despite this the attention to detail is as always meticulous and we can see it from the red button on the side frame and from the circular notification LED above the pop-up camera, which in turn has LEDs on the sides. In short, every time the camera comes out the effect will be beautiful!
Xiaomi Mi 9T it is excellently finished, the frame is in solid aluminum, the materials in general are well made and the smartphone is very solid. At first glance it looks like a device with a much higher value and that we could easily place in the top of the range.
Le dimensions they are not as compact as Xiaomi Mi 9 SEindeed, they are almost identical with the top of the range . Mi series. However, you can discreetly use the smartphone with one hand even if the glass back cover will make it very slippery, for this reason I recommend you always use the TPU cover supplied. Going into more detail, the dimensions are of 156.7 x 74.3 x 8.8 millimeters for a weight of 191 grams.
Unlike his cousins, Xiaomi Mi 9T can boast of one pop-up front room, which has an automatic mechanism secured for over 300.000 use, so we safely pass the 8 years of use if we assume about 100 openings per day. As if that were not enough we have a prevention system against accidental falls, just like we saw on OPPO Reno. So as soon as the smartphone detects the free fall, the pop-up camera will retract. Furthermore, in case of continuous opening and closing (ex. 7-8 times in a row) of the front camera the MIUI will show us the following message:
Later we find the triple camera flanked by the dual LED flash, while frontally we find only the ear capsule and the brightness and proximity sensors. On the lower profile there are the dual nano SIM input, the USB Type-C port, the main microphone and the system speaker, unlike the upper one on which the pop-up room with its circular notification LED is located (one real treat), the mini-jack input and the secondary microphone.
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Display
Xiaomi Mi 9T is equipped with a display AMOLED da 6.39 inches diagonal with resolution Full HD + (2340 x 1080 pixels), maximum brightness of 600 nitsProtection Corning Gorilla Glass 5, support toHDR and density of PPI 403.
In short, a nice panel for a smartphone located in this price range, as if that were not enough we have several noteworthy software customizations such as the Dark Mode, or still thealways-on color display that we have already had the opportunity to appreciate about Xiaomi Mi 9 e Xiaomi Mi 9 SE and 2.0 anti-glare mode that under the light of the sun shoots the colors and the brightness to the maximum to guarantee us a better visibility.
In all this the display guarantees us good viewing angles and good colors, which are faithfully represented although sometimes they are slightly saturated and this can be seen when looking at the photos taken with the smartphone. However you can change the color calibration through the settings menu.
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Technical data and services
Under the body of the Xiaomi Mi 9T we find a chipset Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, which includes an octa-core processor at 8 nm with a maximum clock frequency of 2.2 GHz, a GPU Adreno 618, 6 GB di RAM LPDDR4X, 64 GB di internal memory UFS 2.1 not expandable via microSD.
Although we do not have a top-of-the-range hardware configuration (in fact Xiaomi Mi 9T is not), the performance are excellent for its price range as we have a good reactivity and speed in the opening of the app, the system is fluid and does not present any type of slowdown. In a nutshell it will be a real pleasure to use this smartphone.
The downside, though, is that we cannot expand the internal memory e 64 GB could be few for many users. Fortunately, there is also a variant from 128 GB, but the price goes up, so much to collide with Xiaomi Mi 9. So at that point we can doubt about which to buy between the two.
Lato Gaming the performances are really very good, in fact, we didn't find any problem even with the heaviest titles like PUBG, which is reproduced by default to high details giving back an excellent gameplay.
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Benchmark
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Camera
Lo Xiaomi Mi 9T has a triple rear camera with main sensor Sony IMX582 da 48 mega-pixels with opening f / 1.75, telephoto lens from 8 mega-pixels with opening f / 2.4 e 2x optical zoom and ultra-wide-angle sensor from 13 mega-pixels with opening f / 2.4 e wide-angle di 124.8 °, finally we find a digital stabilization, PDAF autofocus and a dual monochromatic LED flash.
In conditions of optimal brightness the shots are good, in fact, these are characterized by a good level of detail, faithfully represented colors and a discreet lighting management. I must say that I also liked the shots with the telephoto, which nevertheless returns us enjoyable photographs for social sharing. The macro they are level thanks to a satisfactory natural bokeh, while the shots with the wide-angle sensor they are sufficient, but they have some alteration on the sides. Finally, the lack of optical stabilizer is felt, as sometimes it can be noticed the shake in the photos, especially in the evening.
Coming therefore to this aspect, in night the quality drops and it shows. In this case the night mode comes to our aid but it certainly cannot do miracles. If by day Xiaomi Mi 9T if he plays it on a par with competitors like OPPO Reno, in the evening we see its inferiority due to slightly wavy shots, with digital noise and not very defined.
Obviously, given the aggressive price, we had to make compromises and this sector is a mix of Xiaomi Mi 9 e Xiaomi Mi 9 SE.
Frontally we find a sensor from 20 mega-pixels with opening f / 2.2 which behaves more or less like the rear modules. In fact, in conditions of optimal brightness the shots are good thanks to a satisfactory definition and the colors most often represented faithfully. This is because the management of the lights is discreet, but sometimes it goes a little in crisis by slightly beating the colors, at the bottom I leave you an example. But I must say that as far as daytime photos are concerned, I was satisfied, thanks also to the HDR that works very well.
In night, instead, we note the presence of digital noise also due to the increase in sharpness, the colors are discreet and the management of the lights just enough. In short, in relation to the rear modules this behaves better, but overall we are still within the scope of sufficiency and not beyond.
I video can be registered up to 4K a 30 FPS, optical stabilization is not present and this can be seen. Despite this, theICE CREAM in Full HD a 30 FPS it doesn't behave too badly, the colors are good and the focus is fast.
In conclusion I must say that, despite the small criticisms, the photographic sector of Xiaomi Mi 9T it is perfectly in line with its price range. The results are generally good for the variant from 329 €, while if you want to buy the one from 399 would start to evaluate perhaps the purchase of Xiaomi Mi 9 if you want to bet everything on the camera.
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Audio
The audio output from the single lower speaker of the Xiaomi Mi 9T it's definitely powerful and enjoy a good balance of frequencies even if the medium and high ones are more privileged than the low ones.
In headphones the situation improves further, while as far as calls are concerned I have found no problems either with the sound in the ear capsule or with the microphone.
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Connectivity
The connectivity park of Xiaomi Mi 9T it is definitely level, as we have support for 4G +obviously with 20 band, and the reception is very good. I have never experienced any particular signal problems and everything runs smoothly. As if that were not enough we find the Wi-Fi dual band MU-MiMo, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS / BeiDou / Galileo (single band and not double as Xiaomi Mi 9) and NFC for smartphone payments.
Satellite navigation is precise and has a reactive signal fix, while Bluetooth has not shown any problems with any device to which I have associated the smartphone. Perfect!
On the other hand, as regards the unlocking methods, there is the fingerprint reader under the display, which is precise and fairly rapid. Like all sensors with this technology we always have the usual limits of the case. Present, of course, the facial unblock through the front camera, which is fast e accurate in daytime, ma at night it will be difficult and you will be forced to use the fingerprint.
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Software
Il software on board of Xiaomi Mi 9T does not differ from that seen already on My 9 e Mi 9 SE, in fact, we have a system based on Android 9 Pie with personalized interface MIUI 10.3.7 Global.
Compared to the two cousins we have one beautiful news, since there is no notch we will have all the notification icons and this news fills us with joy, as it was one of the reasons that penalized the final vote of the other two devices. For the rest we find the same customizations, or the Dark Mode, Colorful Ambient Display and animations related to recharge and those of the pop-up room with lots of customizable sounds, the Second Space, the cloning of the app, the Game Boost and much more!
La MIUI it is confirmed to be one of the most UI complete in circulation, the system is always fluid and free of slowdowns or lag. The only comment I want to make is relative to Dark Fashion, since for some applications like Gmail when a fluctuating notification arrives, the text will be black, just like the background of the box and therefore nothing will be read.
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Autonomy
Under the body of Xiaomi Mi 9T we find a battery from 4000 mAh, which will allow us to obtain aautonomy incredible! In fact, with intensive use we can reach without any problem 1 day and a half of autonomy with approx 7 hours of active screen, while using it in a milder way is not at all difficult to close 2 days.
As if that were not enough, we also have support for quick charging da 18W Quick Charge 3.0 which will take your smartphone from 0 al 100% in about 1 25 hours and minutes.
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Price and Conclusions
In conclusion Xiaomi has made another big smartphone, but perhaps the biggest blow was placing it at launch a 299 € and subsequently to 329 €. We are talking about an excellent figure if we think of the technical specifications and the fact that the Chinese variant it does not cost much less, in fact, in some cases it is even more than this model Global.
However, the variant from 6 / 128 GB should be sold to 399 €, a figure a little too close to that of Xiaomi Mi 9 and this could create a bit of confusion. Which to choose between the two? One is a top of the range and the other a good mid-range, why choose the second if the price difference is minimal? This depends on your taste in aesthetics or if you prefer one best camera (that of the Mi 9), if you love the notch or pop-up room or again if you want more power (here too the Mi 9 wins).
In spite of everything Xiaomi Mi 9T it's a very good smartphone which offers so much for its price range. THE points in his favor are definitely the autonomy, the display and the performances, while i points to his disadvantage (partly justifiable) are the lack of wireless charging, waterproofing (we could not expect otherwise) and the microSD slot.
