Al Mobile World Congress 2019 of Barcelona OPPO showed the whole world its technology dedicated to the camera and more precisely we talk about the 10x hybrid zoom which uses a periscope structure to maintain image quality even with an important zoom, simulating the performance of a reflex or mirrorless machine. What's more, the Chinese company was the before to announce this innovation. After testing OPPO Reno, after a few weeks we can finally touch the product on which this particular camera was applied, we are talking about the beautiful OPPO Reno 10x Zoom. So how did he perform during our tests? Let's find out together in the full review.
Review OPPO Reno 10x Zoom
Unboxing - OPPO Reno 10x Zoom
The sales package is extremely accurate and elegant (the same view for the lower model) and inside we find the following equipment:
- OPPO Reno 10x Zoom;
- quality covers;
- wall power supply with 20W output;
- USB data transfer cable - USB Type-C;
- well-made USB Type-C earphones with rubber pads of various sizes;
- pin for the SIM slot;
- instruction manual.
Construction and design
As for aesthetics, OPPO Reno 10x Zoom it is identical to its younger brother, the only difference being the presence of the periscope sensor. So let's talk about a smartphone with one of the most beautiful designs of the 2019 thanks to a back cover opaque with stratified coloring which guarantee spectacular reflections. In addition, in the center there is a strip of mirrored glass with the name of the product which further improves its appearance. Moreover, theO-Dot, or a small one ceramic sphere useful to keep the smartphone slightly raised when placed on a flat surface. This will serve to preserve the integrity of the back cover and the sensors.
Aesthetics is elegance e refined, but this is also thanks to the green coloring that varies from emerald to black / gray. In short, this is a very special and original device but, compared to theOPPO Reno traditional we have the more generous dimensions it's a more consistent weight. In fact, let's talk about 162 x 77.2 x 9.3 millimeters with a weight of 215 grams, which make it difficult to use with one hand and not very comfortable to hold in tight pockets. This is a compromise that must be accepted if you want a smartphone with a broad display da 6.6 inches of diagonal.
For the rest, OPPO Reno 10x Zoom gives us a feeling of extreme solidity, However OPPO he has always used us very well from this point of view, the frame is resistant and the keys are set with extreme care. Obviously, here we have the pop-up room "Shark fin" defined "Shark fin selfie camera", which is insured for 200.000 use, or a minimum of 5 years if we consider an average of 100 openings per day. To make matters worse OPPO has studied a mechanism of prevention of accidental falls, more in detail the module will close automatically as soon as the sensors perceive the free fall of the smartphone.
The opening of the pop-up room is very fast, it happens in about 0.8 seconds and in terms of speed of facial unlocking if you play it on equal terms with a smartphone with a selfie camera clearly visible. Inside the automated module we find the brightness and proximity sensor, the camera and the rear LED flash.
To note the same small problem found on the younger brother, or that relating to dust held in the slider. We will be able to clean it very easily but, at least in the short term we have not found any problem in the operation of the smartphone.
Below are the system speaker, the USB Type-C input, the main microphone and the dual nano SIM or SIM + microSD slot. On the left side is the volume rocker, while on the opposite side we can only see the power button.
Later I also leave you some photos between the two devices of the Reno series in such a way as to capture the differences in terms of size.
L'OPPO Reno 10x Zoom has a display AMOLED da 6.6 inches diagonal with resolution Full HD + (2340 x 1080 pixels), density of PPI 387, 16.7 million colors, report 19.5:9 e screen-to-body ratio by the 93.1%.
Such a large panel without a notch is immediately noticeable and, in my opinion, the choice to use the pop-up room is at the moment the best solution to have such a result. Furthermore, the lower chin is not too thick and this makes the experience of use truly immersive.
I colors I'm very good and, as one would expect from a AMOLED, we have dull blacks and excellent viewing angles. Examination passed even for the maximum brightness that allows us an excellent reading even in direct sunlight and to make matters worse we have an automatic brightness sensor that manages the changes of state well.
If you are not satisfied with the color calibration you can always go to the settings to change it as you like. Finally, the night mode el 'always-on display.
Hardware and Performance
To move theOPPO Reno 10x Zoom a chipset takes care of it Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, which includes a processor octa-core with a maximum clock frequency of 2.84 GHz, a GPU Adreno 640, 8 GB di RAM LPDDR4X e 256 GB di internal memory UFS 2.1 expandable via microSD.
Needless to say, the performance of this smartphone are true top of the range, as we have a level hardware. The daily experience is quick, fluid ed free from lag or various setbacks. The memories are very fast and the benchmark results are excellent and to make matters worse the gaming aspect should not be underestimated.
In fact, the device succeeds in reproducing without any problem any title present in the Play Store, from the lighter ones Clash Royale e Subway Surfers to the heavier ones that need more computing power like PUBG, which are executed by default a details at most e without obvious fps drops. What's more, there is also the section called "Game Space" (Game Boost 2.0), which deals with the optimization of background processes, management of notifications, energy consumption and network management.
Benchmark - OPPO Reno 10x Zoom
OPPO Reno 10x Zoom has a triple camera with sensors from 48 mega-pixels with opening f / 1.7 (Sony IMX586), A telephoto da 13 mega-pixels with aperture f / 3.0 with periscopic system it's a wide-angle sensor da 8 mega-pixels with opening f / 2.2 e wide-angle from 120 °. Everything is assisted by a double optical stabilizer, an LED flash and a lfocal length variable from 16 to 160 mm.
In good light conditions the photos are very good, especially at close range the smartphone brings out the best of itself thanks to an excellent definition, the colors represented faithfully (except for a few occasions with automatic HDR in which the colors of the flowers are saturated a little more than the reality) and a natural bokeh of level. On these occasions the smartphone if played on equal terms with the best in the field, but I must say that on other occasions the results obtained are only sufficient.
This happens for example when making panoramic shots which are of good quality, but average for its price range. Indeed, in the end the main sensor it is the same that we find on the basic model, so there is not too much difference between the two. Here below you will find some comparative shots and as you can see there are very slight differences in terms of bokeh and definition that benefit the top variant.
However the real difference between the two is also in the presence of a wide-angle sensor and one with periscopic system which returns one 10x hybrid zoom. With the first we can make good shots in situations of good brightness, also considering that the lights are managed with skill, while as far as the second is concerned we must make some clarifications. This type of zoom guarantees us sufficient photographs, we see that there is important work behind and the definition is indeed discreet.
However we are not at the levels of Huawei P30 Pro, since the separation between the subject and the background is not so marked and we do not have a general definition as clear as the Chinese rival. Furthermore, you will have to stay very still with your hand despite the optical stabilizer because I have noticed several times camera shake in the shots. Finally, a minimum fire distance of at least one meter and a half must be observed when using a zoom, otherwise the subject will be blurred.
Di will be falls on detail and general quality it lowers slightly, but the photos are anyway sufficient for its price range. There night mode it will help us to increase the contrast and the final effect, as well as the brightness of the shot when the ambient light is weak. Later I leave you some shots with wide angle and zoom.
Frontally the top of the range OPPO has the same sensor as the younger brother, or a module from 16 mega-pixels with aperture f / 2.0. I feel like sharing the same opinions, as while during the day the results are excellent thanks to good colors, excellent definition and management of level lights, in the evening the results are fluctuating due to greater digital noise, jerky jerks and general quality only in the media.
I video they can be registered up to a maximum resolution of 4K a 30 fps. The overall quality is good, the stabilization is satisfactory, the microphone captures a clean sound and the colors are faithfully represented. In short, all in the media, but without distorting.
Audio and connectivity
Unlike OPPO Reno there are two big changes, the first is that OPPO Reno 10x Zoom owns one stereo speaker, more precisely the second loudspeaker is integrated inside the headset capsule, which will increase user involvement, making the smartphone perfect for multimedia thanks to the large display.
The audio output from the two speakers is powerful and enjoy a good balance of frequencies. The other change concerns theabsence of mini-jack input in favor ofUSB Type-C. However, the supplied headphones (with Type-C) are discreet and will give us a good level of listening, but in general with a good pair of earphones you will be able to capture the goodness of the sector.
Il microphone it works without any problem but, also in this case, as far as the audio on call is concerned, we should rest our ear right on the edge between the two profiles in which the ear capsule is set, otherwise we will hear our interlocutor with a lower volume.
The smartphone supports the Dual SIM in Nano format with connectivity 4G LTE Cat.15 (obviously the 20 band). In these days of use I have never encountered problems with signal reception or slowdowns during the use of the data network. We also find the Wi-Fi Dual Band a / b / g / n / ac, USB Type-C with OTG support, Bluetooth 5.0 and also NFC, without forgetting then GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS / Beidou / Galileo, which guarantee excellent satellite navigation thanks to a reactive and precise signal fix.
As for the unlocking methods we have the provision Face Unlock and the fingerprint sensor below the display. As for the first one, although the camera is in the pop-up module, this is a lot fast e reactive, practically with a smartphone with selfie camera on the display. During the day he does not miss a beat, while in the dark or in the evening you will have to make sure that you have the brightness of the panel above the 50%, otherwise the unlocking will require a few extra fractions of a second or it may even fail.
Good also the fingerprint sensor below the display, which is fast e accurate, although it presents the same limits as its competitors, or the lack of immediacy in some moments. Overall, however, unlocking occurs without any problems 9 times on 10.
As for the software, on board theOPPO Reno 10x Zoom we find the Color OS 6.0 based on Android 9 Pie with security patches updated to 5 Maggio 2019. Unfortunately, however, we find the same defects found on the younger brother. Let's talk about small smears which do not compromise the general use of the smartphone, but which nevertheless make the difference between a top of the range and another.
For example when we're going to change the pop-up room opening sound this will not change instantly, but will activate randomly a few hours later. Or the interface does not have a menu dedicated to energy consumption of the display, so there will be no way of knowing how many hours of active screen you have made, except through third-party applications. Some translations should be improved and some items should be grouped better within the settings, as sometimes it can happen that you find it hard or take too long to find the desired setting.
However, there are also several positives, as we are talking about a system full of customizations including themes, app cloning, split screen, "Game Space" to improve smartphone performance during gaming and much more! Finally, please note that we have not encountered any problems with notifications.
We expect some in the coming weeks updating that can improve all these small aspects and bring the color OS to be more optimized.
Under the body of OPPO Reno 10x Zoom we find a battery from 4065 mAh, which guarantees us one good autonomy. Unfortunately, since there is no function that shows us the hours of active display, I cannot provide you with precise data, but I can tell you that with stressful use I managed to obtain a range of about one day and a half.
So even if you go out in the evening with the 30 / 35% residue you can rest easy, as you will return home with enough battery power.
La recharge via the power adapter supplied by 20W it happens in about 1 25 hours and minutes.
Price & Conclusions - OPPO Reno 10x Zoom
So here we are at the long awaited conclusions. Yeah, why OPPO Reno 10x Zoom is available from today 14 June in the colors Jet Black e Ocean Green at the price of 799 €. Here the comparison with Huawei P30 Pro for the technology they both use and the differenza between the two (list price) is 300 €, a wide distance and that can be seen given the photographic performances of the top of the range home OPPO.
OPPO Reno 10x Zoom it is a powerful, aesthetically pleasing smartphone with great autonomy and a wonderful display, but it has some small gaps in the software and in the photographic sector that yes, it certainly behaves well, but that fails to guarantee theWOW effect what I expected. It is probably for this reason that the price is below 800 €.
Overall it's a smartphone that it defends itself well in its price range and which in turn presents one differenza of price of 300 € with its younger brother that we had enjoyed it so much. At this point I want to ask you the question: would you rather buy OPPO Reno a 499 € o OPPO Reno 10x Zoom a 799 €?
