How to install TWRP and get root on OnePlus 7 Pro

Unblocking the bootloader

As usual, before starting, we remind you that to perform this type of procedure it will be necessary first unlocking the bootloader. The other prerequisites include a Windows PC with ADB and Fastboot (restart if you have just installed them) and a USB cable to connect the smartphone to the PC, which is recommended to have the battery at least at 75%, to avoid possible problems.

  • Go in "Settings"And click on"Telephone information";
  • Click repeatedly on the inscription "Build number"And the warning to enable the developer options will appear;
  • Go in "Settings / System"And click on"Developer options";
  • Look for the items "OEM unlocking" "USB debugging" and "Advanced restart"And enable them;
  • Hold down the Power button and, from the pop-up menu, click on "Bootloader";
  • Connect the smartphone to the PC;
  • In the "adb" folder, hold down the Shift key, click with the right mouse button and select "Open PowerShell window here"Or "Open a command window here" (depending on which version of Windows you have);
  • Check that the smartphone is detected with the command "fastboot devices", Following which an alphanumeric string should appear with the inscription"fastboot";
  • Write "fastboot oem unlock"To unlock the bootloader.

TWRP installation

First you need to download the custom recovery .img file TWRPdownloadable from this link, and the .zip file of the installer from this link. Once downloaded, move the file to the ADB folder (as a rule)C: \ adb").

  1. Restart the phone in “mode againBootloader";
  2. Connect the smartphone to the PC;
  3. In the "adb" folder, hold down the Shift key, click with the right mouse button and select "Open PowerShell window here"Or "Open a command window here" (depending on which version of Windows you have);
  4. Check that the smartphone is detected with the command "fastboot devices", Following which an alphanumeric string should appear with the inscription"fastboot";

  7. Write "fastboot flash boot -filename-.img”To flash the TWRP;
  8. Once the installation is finished, restart it in recovery mode by selecting "Recovery Mode ";
  9. Go to the Reboot menu and restore the previous active slot by clicking on it at the bottom;
  10. Flashate the installer by going to the Advanced menu, select "ADB Sideload"And PC write the command "Adb sideload -filename-.zip".
PS: instead of -file_name- you should write the name of the TWRP file in .img format and .zip to install. This is because renewed versions of the TWRP could come out, with different names from the previous one.

Magisk installation

Once the custom recovery is installed, it is time to get root permissions, in this case via Magisk.

  1. download Magisk and copy it into the phone's memory;
  2. Turn off the smartphone;
  3. Restart the phone in “mode againBootloader";
  4. Select "install", Look for the Magisk file in memory and install it;
  5. Restart the phone and install Magisk Manager to verify that the root was successful.
