Honor 9 Lite Review: the low-cost band RE?

Honor 9 Lite

Already immediately after the launch event, theHonor 9 Lite has attracted a lot of attention on himself thanks to his good value for money. This is a constant feature in the products of Honor, which has accustomed us right away to smartphones with very aggressive launch prices, associated with a very respectable data sheet. The Chinese company will be able to surprise us and produce the new one best buy among the entry-level or can we find better? We just have to find out together in our full review!

Honor 9 Lite review

Unboxing

The sales package is the usual Honor style, that is very minimal and made of blue hardcover and the following equipment is present inside:

  • Honor 9 Lite;
  • wall power supply with European plug and 5V = 2A output;
  • USB data cable - Micro USB;
  • pin for the SIM slot;
  • instruction manual.

We would like to point out that in the official sales package there should also be a cover, while it is not present in the one reserved for the press.

Design and construction

Despite the technical specifications are almost identical to those of Huawei P Smart, here we find a design totally different and much more similar to that ofHonor 9. We find, in fact, a very nice look by the Chinese manufacturer and this certainly raises it compared to many other products in the medium-low range.

The smartphone has a side frame made in aluminum and a back cover in Curved 2.5D glass virtually mirrored that gives more merit to the device. It is not very difficult to dirty the latter, but it is really very easy to clean it (unlike some satin aluminum back cover), while the construction is solid e compact.

This Honor 9 Lite remains well balanced in the hand and is not particularly slippery, if not on slightly inclined surfaces. The dimensions, therefore, are of 151 x 71.9 x 7.6 millimeters for a weight of 149 grams.

On the right side we find the volume rocker and the power button, while on the left there is only the SIM / microSD slot. The profile above is completely empty, unlike the lower one in which we note the system speaker, the mini jack input, the main microphone and the micro USB input. On the back cover there is the dual camera accompanied by the single LED flash, the microphone useful for the reduction of environmental noise and the fingerprint sensor.

The latter turns out to be enough accurate e on average fast. It is not lightning in the release, but 9 times on 10 this will happen with success e without problems. Moreover, the reader also integrates many gestures more or less useful in daily use that will allow us, for example, to lower the notification curtain, take photographs and much more.

We conclude with the front part where we also find here a double camera, the headset, the notification LED and the brightness and proximity sensor.

Display

Il it is a unit IPS da 5.65 inches diagonal with resolution Full HD + (2160 x 1080 pixels), density of PPI 428 and relationship 18:9.

Honor 9 Lite

Both the colors that viewing angles they are rather good for his price range, though i neri slightly tend to the Grey at extreme angles, and we have not encountered any kind of problem with the touch screen. However, if you are not satisfied with the colors, you can modify it calibration through the appropriate menu inside the settings.

Finally, the minimum brightness è good, while for what concerns the maximum one could certainly do something more.

Hardware and Performance

What unites theHonor 9 Lite with the Huawei P Smart, L 'Honor 7X and Huawei Mate 10 Lite? The answer is: the chipset. In fact, all these devices belonging to the medium-low range of the two Chinese companies mount theKirin HiSilicon 659, which includes a processor octa-core da 2.36 GHz, a GPU Mali-T830 MP2 and in this specific case, 3 GB di RAM LPDDR3-933 dual channel e 32 GB di internal memory, expandable through microSD to 256 GB.

The smartphone behaved well during our tests, with a speed in the opening of the app in line with its price range and without particular lag. Overall it runs quite well and we have not encountered any problems even with the execution of heavier games like Asphalt 8, which is fluid and without frame drops.

Camera

L'Honor 9 Lite is equipped with a double camera back from 13 + 2 mega-pixel with opening f / 2.2 and single LED flash.

In good light conditions the shots are satisfactory, characterized by a fairly faithful representation of the colors and a good definition. The management of lights is not always optimal and sometimes it will happen that the photo will be burned in places where there are strong light sources. We also find the HDR that does not affect too much on the final result. From this point of view, more could be done.

In the evening the quality drops, the photos are noisier and we will have to try to keep the hand a little 'more firm in order not to move the photos. All in all, the results fit perfectly with its price range.

Frontally we find one again double camera and always from 13 + 2 mega-pixel. The photos are characterized by good detail and good colors. However, during the day it is often possible to notice a background overexposed due to a wrong management of the lights, even if it is a classic inside the low end. In the evening, the same speech is repeated for the rear camera.

Videos can be recorded up to a maximum resolution of Full HD and with regard to the performances, what has been said previously with the photographic sector is repeated.

Audio

L'audio coming out of the lower speaker it is not very powerful e favors especially the average frequencies e old rather than the low ones. In headset the situation improves both in terms of equalization and volume, even if it is certainly not a device that makes audio its strong point.

No problem with the audio in capsule and with the microphone, which will allow us to converse on the phone in peace.

Connectivity

L'Honor 9 Lite supports connectivity LTE Cat.6 with support to Dual SIM (we can choose to insert two or a SIM and a microSD). As usual, reception is good, as is the switch between the data network and Wi-Fi.

We also find the 802.11 Wi-Fi b / g / n, Bluetooth 4.2 e GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS, FM radio ed NFC. Despite the connectivity park is very complete, unfortunately the Wi-Fi it is in single band. Obviously this does not surprise us since the others too "Cousins" they are not Dual Band, but it is always good to point out.

Software

L'Honor 9 Lite owns the last one major update of the green robot, that is the version 8.0 Oreo with the classic proprietary interface EMUI 8.0 e security patches updated to January 1 2018.

La UI di Honor / Huawei we already know it very well and we certainly do not need to reiterate the same concepts. What immediately jumps to the eye is that we have several possibilities to customize the graphics through the themes and the wide range of backgrounds available.

Apart from this, we find the reading mode, the possibility of Cloning WhatsApp o Facebook to separate the work sphere from the private sphere and so on.

Thanks to the update ad Oreo we find many small news that up Honor 7X e Huawei Mate 10 Lite they were not present, such as i badge on application icons with quick links.

Autonomy

Under the glass shell we find one battery da 3000 mAh which returns an autonomy in the average. In fact, it is possible to reach the 4 hours of active screen with average use. If used intensively, however, a refill at dinner time will be required.

As regards this aspect, it takes about 2 hours to fully recharge the device.

Conclusions

L'Honor 9 Lite It is available on the official store HiHonor at the special price of 229 € with selfie stick included. Although this is already a good price, considering the official Italian warranty, you can even find it on Amazon at about 198 € (in recent days has also reached quota 175 €).

This figure definitely makes it a smartphone a lot desirable considering also the good performance. THE'Honor 9 Lite is a device very similar to his "Cousins" both in terms of technical specifications and in terms of functionality in everyday use, but it certainly has the design and the price much more affordable.

In short, without going around too much, this smartphone it is not free from defects, but it's definitely a 'excellent alternative inside the fierce band of the entry-level.
