huawei p smart review

Display in 18:9 e dual chamber: this is the path taken in the smartphone market. This Huawei he knows it well, given the number of models launched with these characteristics. IS Huawei P Smart it is no exception, presenting itself as the new (and yet another) mid-range model of the company. This does not mean, however, that it has nothing to say, indeed. Discover it in ours review.

Huawei P Smart Review

Unboxing

Pretty standard equipment for this product. Here is the content of the sales box:

  • Huawei P Smart;
  • loader with 5V 2A output;
  • USB / microUSB cable;
  • pin for removing the SIM slot;
  • entry-level headphones.

Design and construction quality

Looking at it from the front, Huawei P Smart it is undoubtedly a device that it is aesthetically appreciated. Of course, if you focus on the back you notice a more design retro. Considering the price range, the smartphone results well solid in hand, returning a touch and feel that will satisfy many. Surely it helps the metal body, "broken", however, by the two plastic bands, in some ways too accentuated.

Thanks to its small size - 150 x 72 x 7.45 mm for 145 g - l 'ergonomics results , while integrating a large display. Given the beveled profile of the side frame, we notice a certain one slipperiness: a cover provided would have been appreciated.

Ottimo the operation of the fingerprint reader. In addition to integrating the classic gestures Huawei, especially to lower the notification curtain, the release is quick and precise. Present, then, the LED notification, while the note perhaps more out of tune is the presence of the microUSB standard.

Display

If the word "18: 9" frightens you, given the usual dimensions we are getting used to, in this case you can go quietly. The Huawei P Smart stops at "only" 5.65 inches Full HD + (427 PPI), rather than the 6 inches of other models. To promote theuse with 1 hand there is the appropriate option to resize the screen. Also you can hide the keys on the screen and replace them with a multi-function button. Do not miss the Reading mode to facilitate use at night.

The panel has technology IPS LCD whose color rendering è balanced. There are no anomalies with any color, although obviously you do not expect very deep blacks. There brightness maximum, however, is not high, so under the sun you may have some small problem. The good level of contrast, however, partly compensates this aspect. The automatic brightness sensor is reactive but tends a little lower. Good theoleofobicità and the smartphone arrives with one pre-applied film.

Hardware and software

Like several other models, too Huawei P Smart It is based on Kirin 659. A solution made a 16 nm and that integrates a processor octa-core with Cortex-A53 cluster a 2.36 / 1.7 GHz. And here we open a due parenthesis. During the first days of use I noticed a good fluidity, even with the hardware limits of this solution.

I 3 GB Dual-channel LPDDR3-933 RAMs proved to be sufficient for multitasking. We have then 32 GB of internal memory, expandable through microSD up to 256 GB. To handle the graphics part we find an ARM GPU Mali-T830 MP2 that, even in the heaviest games, has never given signs of particular failure, maintaining good temperatures.

That said, in the following days I noticed ainstability of the system. I do not know if this is due to software that is not yet mature, based on Android 8.0 Oreo ed EMUI 8.0 (1 December 2017 security patch), and maybe in pre-production version. The fact is that in recent days some apps crashano, but it must be said that app as Facebook also crashes on Mate 10 Pro. Also, checking through CPU Spy, we note that the operating frequency never goes beyond the 1.7 GHz, in spite of the maximum 2.36 GHz obtainable.

Benchmark

Photo / video quality

As anticipated, too Huawei P Smart integrates one dual chamber. In this case the sensors are from 13 + 2 mega-pixel, with the secondary used to acquire depth. This allows you to shoot in Bokeh mode, with results all in all well done, provided you have an eye (and taste) in its use.

Speaking of standard shots, the day quality is satisfactory, with well-immortalized details and colors. The white balance is a bit 'dancer and tending to yellow, especially in the presence of strong contrasts. We also note an overexposure of the parts where the light reflects, a common defect of the devices in this category. The software is full of features, but the HDR mode is in a special menu and I would have preferred to see it among the quick toggles.

In nocturnal phase or with little light the situation becomes more critical but not irrecoverable. The photos, in fact, turn out ax and moves if we do not have a good grip on the smartphone. By engaging in the shot we would still get decent pictures, but the "tip-and-shoot" is lost. Present a single LED flash the right powerful. The front camera has a sensor from 13 mega-pixels with opening f/ 2.0. The situation is almost the same as just illustrated and you will not have major problems for social use.

Videos can be recorded in Full HD to 30 fps and the quality is average. Ditto for i selfie video, unfortunately only in HD.

Connectivity and audio quality

This model of Huawei P Smart (FIG-LX1) offers support dual SIM LTE Cat.6 (300 / 50 Mbps). As expected from this brand, the reception it has proven itself height, without smudges and hitches. Good audio quality in call, both for us and for our interlocutor.

Lo speaker it is suitable for hands-free calls, while listening to music is perceived as lacking of low frequencies. Improve the situation in the headphones, even if the sound is not too full-bodied.

Too bad for the modem only Wi-Fi b / g / n Mono Band, but which complements the convenient function of Wi-Fi Bridge. Continuing, the dual Bluetooth 4.2 offers the possibility to connect two devices to the terminal. However, if you connect more than one BT speaker, the audio will only be conveyed via one of these. You can, however, have a speaker or headphones connected simultaneously to a wearable. present NFC e FM radio, as well as GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS together with compass. No problem, therefore, in satellite navigation.

Autonomy and recharge

Inside a fairly thin shell we find a battery from 3000 mAh. Although the amperage does not look great, Huawei P Smart surprised me positively. In fact, during these days of use, stressing the device I managed to get around 5 / 5.5 hours of display. All in between sessions of Pokémon GO, both YouTube and Spotify, all the various social and with about 20 / 30 minutes of calls.

Unfortunately the refill can not be said the same. With the charger supplied by 5V 2A it takes about 2.5 hours to switch from 0 to 100%.

Huawei P Smart Review - Conclusions and price

Il Huawei P Smart it will be on sale on the Italian market starting from the end of February at a launch price of 259 €. No doubt about it: we are facing a telephone that convinces but not surprising. We do not have excellences in the various sectors, but all results balanced. Too bad only for the hardware / software instability found, otherwise we would be facing one sure best-buy.
