If there is one thing that Xiaomi It is usual to do, is to launch more variants of the same device, often willingly confusing the user in the possible choice of purchase. In this case we see the comparison Xiaomi Note 4 Redmire, initially presented with a SoC MediaTek on board Helio X20, with the subsequent variant with SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 625.

Besides some photos that show us the (few) aesthetic differences, we also have a benchmark Antutu which highlights the performance differences: what will the outcome be?

DISCLAIMER: this little versus is not intended as a real comparison, but rather of objective observations made on the MIUI forum by a holder of both smartphones, as already reported in the Source. We at GizChina have not yet had the chance to test the Qualcomm variant and obviously we will propose a complete comparison as soon as we had it at hand.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4: comparing the variants MediaTek Helio X20 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 625

We start from design, almost identical except for some small details, including the absence of screws in the lower frame profile and the different arrangement of the IR sensor in the upper part. To be reported as le lines that separate the metal back cover from the plastic bands for the antennas are slightly larger on the Qualcomm variant.

To conclude, the variant MediaTek it also results thinner, with 8.35 mm thick against the 8.45 mm of Qualcomm.

From the hardware point of view, however, the differences are more tangible, as evidenced by CPU-Z:

  • MediaTek Helio X20
    • Deca-core CPU: 2 x 2.11 GHz A72 + 4 x 1.85 GHz A53 + 4 x 1.85 GHz A53
    • ARM GPU Mali-T880 MP4 to 780 MHz
    • 2/3/4 GB RAM LPDDR3-800 dual channel
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 625
    • Cortex-A53 octa-core CPU to 2.02 GHz
    • Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU to 650 MHz
    • 2 / 3 / 4 GB RAM LPDDR3-933 single channel

Going to analyze the test Antutu, it is immediately evident more power of MediaTek Helio X20, both as regards the graphic elaboration that the UX (User Experience), the CPU and the RAM, as already could be understood from the above mentioned data. However, it is known as it is Snapdragon 625 is one of the best SoCs for i energy consumption, without going too far to the detriment of performance.
