UMi Super, the complete review of

UMi Super

In recent times we have witnessed a sudden growth by "minor" Chinese manufacturers in hardware and software terms in their respective flagship stores.

Today we analyze the latest addition to UMi, the UMi Super, a very interesting device that comes with an aggressive launch price and a good level of hardware.

Let's find out more about this device in our full review!

UMi Super, the complete review of

UMi Super - Sales package

The sale of the UM Super is practically reduced to the essential; inside the tin box, in fact, we find:

  • UMi Super;
  • wall charger with European socket, USB input and 1.67A output;
  • USB data cable - micro USB;
  • quick instruction manuals;
  • SIM removal pin.

UMi Super - Design and materials

The UMi Super is characterized by a body made of metal and a rather “premium” design, very far from what the Chinese company had accustomed us to in the past.

With rounded lines that recall a lot the design of previous smartphone analyzed in the past (a mix of aesthetic cues, from OnePlus 2 to UMi Touch itself), UMi Super has excellent finishing, with an impeccable processing of the aluminum that appears milled in a way exceptional along the entire perimeter frame which is rounded to the right point to ensure even a good grip despite the grandeur of the device.

The dimensions of the device are 150.8 x 75 x 8.5mm for a total weight, including a non-removable 4000 mAh battery, of 195 grams, a weight that is immediately felt even if, in reality, it is quite balanced along the body of the device.

The body is unibody and the assembly is more than satisfactory; there are no aspects that the manufacturer has not cared or neglected, which is why on the constructive level this UMi Super can be defined as a top of the range in all respects, and not only for UMi.

However, by taking a closer look at the smartphone, on the right profile we find the on / off button as well as the volume rocker.

On the left profile there is the double slot for SIM cards in Micro format shared with the slot for inserting a Micro SD card to expand the memory and the Smart Key, a key for the quick start of a specific application that can be customized via software.

On the lower profile we find the single system speaker, the USB Type-C connector and the main system microphone.

At the top, however, there is only the 3.5 mm jack for headphones.

On the back is the main 13 mega-pixel camera made by Panasonic, a dual Dual Tone LED Flash, the second microphone for the suppression of environmental noise, and the fingerprint reader, which with the first software version seemed to us quite unstable but has definitely improved with the various updates.

At the front, finally, we find the 5 mega-pixel front camera at the top, the headset capsule, the brightness and proximity sensors, while at the bottom we find the particular Nubia style Skylight notification LED. The navigation key bar is on the screen.

UMi Super - Display

The UMI Super is equipped with a 5.5-inch diagonal display with Full HD 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, a 401PPI IPS matrix panel.

The panel is characterized by a good overall quality even if the maximum brightness does not present particularly high values. The relative sensor is rather precise in detecting light changes by adjusting the panel backlighting.

Worth noting, compared toUMi Touch recently reviewed, the responsive and precise touchscreen in touch detection.

The panel is covered with a glass with 2.5D curvature that gives elegance and a good grip during use; the latter is quite oleophobic even if in certain circumstances the impressions are quite evident.

UMi Super - Hardware and performance

The device is powered by a Mediatek Helio P10 octa-core processor, accompanied by a Mali-T860 GPU, 4 GB of LPDDR3 RAM made by Samsung and 32 GB of internal memory expandable via Micro SD up to 128 GB.

The performances offered by this hardware combination are high profile considering the price range in which the terminal is placed. The presence of Android 6.0 Marshmallow practically stocks contributes to get a fluidity and a really good level of user experience.

During our tests we have already received two OTA updates of about 13 and 29MB, reflecting the work done by UMi in optimizing this device.

In everyday use, moreover, with the usual routine tests, the top of the UMi range has never highlighted particular difficulties; testing the sample videos, the smartphone is able to reproduce in an impeccable and fluid way all the files, excluding 4K, from MP4 to MKV.

The video game segment, then, with Asphalt 8 is quite satisfactory; however, in some moments, the game appears to be slightly snappy despite the high-end hardware; the temperatures, however, are good and the slightly subdued performance is probably due to software that is not properly optimized on all fronts.

Web browsing, finally, is entrusted to the Android browser of stock, on which the manufacturer has not made any substantial change; the performances, in this area, are good and the device does not show particular painful notes.

UMi Super - Audio

The device is equipped with a single system speaker placed on the low profile of the body that returns an audio volume not very high and that lacks a little 'in the low frequencies.

However, despite this, we have not encountered problems in the use of content. Furthermore, the sound on headphones is quite balanced, although not particularly "full-bodied".

UMi Super - Connectivity

UMi Super is equipped with a double SIM housing (slot, unfortunately, shared with the micro SD), both supported in micro format; the telephone reception is good and in this model totally disappear the problems we had highlighted with UMi Touch during the review.

However, UMi Super fully supports the networks of our country including band 20 (frequency 800MHz) for the LTE of operators such as, for example, Wind.

Even the GPS works well, the fix is fast both in external and internal; good Bluetooth and the Wi-Fi Dual-Band a / b / g / na 5GHz is impeccable.

UMi Super - Camera

The UMi Super is equipped with a rear camera from 13 mega-pixel made by Panasonic (specifically, the sensor is the Panasonic MN34152), accompanied by a double LED flash with double color tone; the front camera, on the other hand, is from 5 mega-pixel and the sensor is a GalaxyCore GC5005 CMOS.

One of the aspects that certainly has not convinced us fully is precisely this relative photographic quality; as seen in the past with other companies of the company, the photographic sensors can not give their best in everyday use, which is why the shots taken are only sufficient and nothing more.

The colors are slightly dull and pale, and the focus is not impeccable; it must be said, however, that the commitment of the producer is high, and already with the last update made we noticed some improvements in this sector.

UMi Super - Software

With Android 6.0 Marshmallow stock, UMi Super at the software level it looks like Google he did it; icon pack classic, full menu in material design and no special addition, if not some modes such as Turbo Download (now almost a must in devices with Marshmallow) or the ability to assign the Smart button on the left side the opening of a ' application chosen among those installed.

The performance, then, is good and the system is perfectly fluid and responds to the requests during the use of every day; sins slightly in optimization (as the case mentioned above Asphalt 8), but surely many will come OTA (as he has always accustomed us UMi, on the other hand) to perfect these small aspects.

UMi Super - Autonomy

The battery is a unit from well 4000 mAh realized by Sony with support for quick charging to 5 / 7 / 9 / 12 V. In daily use, this amperage is felt in favor of an almost impeccable autonomy and on which nothing can be said at all.

UMi SuperIn fact, it succeeds in successfully accompanying us to complete the day of intensive use up to 5 half hour active screen with predominance of use of mobile data network e poco Wifi; recharging times are also very short with the standard charger which can guarantee a complete recharge, from 0 to 100%, in less than 1 hours to 50 minutes.

UMi Super - Final considerations

UMi Supertherefore, it represents at present a good purchase, considering also the interest shown by UMi in disseminating timely updates to try and make this device as interesting as possible.

At the moment, therefore, UMi Super is undoubtedly promoted almost with flying colors, with the exception of the camera which is its weakest strong point. For the rest, he convinced us fully, without ifs and buts.

UMi Super is available for purchase from China su GearBest with shipping Italy Express at the price of 176 €, which we thank for sending the sample here reviewed.
