One of the devices that surprised most in the last month is definitely the OnePlus 3, the new top of the range of the Chinese company OnePlus.
In fact, the terminal is the first smartphone of OnePlus to be marketed without the inviting system that has caused many difficulties in the past.
One of the most intriguing aspects of the OnePlus 3 is definitely the hardware equipment, on which stands out the presence of well 6 GB of LPDDR4 RAM. How did it fare in our tests? Let's find out together!
OnePlus 3, the review of GizChina.it
OnePlus 3 - Sales package
Il sales box faithfully reproduces colors (white and red) and typical lines of the company. On the front there is the 3 number in relief while on the back some information about the device is indicated.
Inside we find:
- OnePlus 3;
- charger with European socket with Dash Charge 5V 4 A technology;
- pin to extract the SIM slot;
- thank you letter from the CEO of OnePlus;
- user manual in multiple languages (Italian excluded).
OnePlus 3 - Design and materials
Il OnePlus 3 presents a marked difference in terms of design and materials compared to the past thanks to the use ofanodized aluminum in the realization of the shell.
The design of the device is a mix of aesthetic lines already seen on other devices that, despite making a little 'nose in terms of originality, in everyday use is certainly appreciated.
The dimensions are of 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.35 mm for a weight of suns 158 grams.
Despite being made of metal, the device it is not too slippery. This is due to both the milling of the side frame and the curved back cover on the sides. Furthermore, the whole gives a great touch & feel.
On the right profile we find the Power button and the trolley for the double SIM slot format Nano. On the left profile we find the volume rocker and the switch to 3 positions for use profiles.
Below we find the system speaker, the connector USB Type-C 2.0, main microphone and 3.5 mm mini-jack input. At the top, however, the perimeter is completely smooth.
On the front we see the front camera from above 8 mega-pixels, the capsule, the brightness / proximity sensors and the RGB notification LEDs. Below are the i soft keys back and multitasking customizable via software.
At the center there is the ceramic Home button which integrates a fingerprint reader among the fastest ever seen in the industry. Very comfortable then the fact of being able to lock the display by holding it down and being able to activate the camera with a double touch.
On the back we find the second microphone for the reduction of environmental noise, the main camera from 16 mega-pixels and the single LED flash and the OnePlus logo.
OnePlus 3 - Display
The display is a unit of 5.5 Full HD Thumbs with a glass with curvature 2.5D and protection Gorilla Glass 4 from good oleophobicity.
The panel is of type Optic AMOLED, or a Super AMOLED slightly customized by OnePlus. But beyond numbers and acronyms, what matters is the actual yield.
Il chromatic range results ricco e well reproduced, with perfect blacks and an excellent level of brightness maximum and minimum. It is also possible to change the color temperature according to your preferences. Good also the viewing angles: whites tend to turn towards greenish shades, but only at extreme angles.
The function is also to be reported Ambient Display, with which to display the time and notifications on the screen off, which can also be activated via the proximity sensor.
OnePlus 3 - Hardware and performance
The heart of the 3 OnePlus is represented by Snapdragon 820. The CPU is of type quad-core with Kryo architecture to 64 bit: 2 x 2.2 GHz + 2 x 1.6 GHz.
The GPU is always performing Adreno 530 624 MHz, with which the gaming experience is never a problem. In addition, the metal body guarantees aexcellent dissipation of heat even in the most excited phases.
If we join also 6 GB of RAM here we get an experience of high profile use that, beyond the controversy of these days, will be able to satisfy any palate.
If it is true that the OnePlus 3 reload some games and apps although others are available 2/3 GB of RAM free, it is also true that at least 10 app are kept open without problems for a clear choice of the manufacturer. So no problem from this point of view, which can be easily "solved" by changing some parameters in the kernel.
To finish we have 64 GB of type memory UFS 2.0 (52.66 GB available), very fast but unfortunately not expandable via micro SD, even if the media is present OTG.
OnePlus 3 - Benchmark
OnePlus 3 - Cameras
The device is equipped with a rear camera from 16 mega-pixels with sensor Sony IMX298 (the same mounted on the Xiaomi My 5) with pixels from 1.12 um, opening f / 2.0, accompanied by stabilization OIS + ICE CREAM, autofocus PDAF (compared to laser present on OnePlus 2) and a single LED flash.
The Chinese manufacturer has done a great job on the software side, with a very fast focusing and an equally rapid shutter speed.
L'interface is always very reactive and can be called up with the screen switched off by pressing 2 times the Power button. The function is also very useful Automatic HDR, in addition to the mode Manual with which to shoot even in format RAW.
The shots in daytime have one good color rendering and a excellent level of details, as well as a well-balanced white balance. Definitely appreciable also the bokeh effect that gives the whole a more professional touch.
In night both the shutter speed and the focus remain good, but the dynamic range drops quite dramatically. We still have the LED flash that, despite being single, he behaves very well illuminating homogeneously.
The front camera is instead a sensor Sony IMX179 da 8 mega-pixels, which returns well defined selfies and balanced in colors.
OnePlus 3 - Video recording test
The videos recorded in Full HD a 30 fps are well done, focus è fast and stabilization è effective. Too bad only for the captured audio that is not yet well optimized.
Also in format 4K optimization is not perfect, given the presence of some artifacts. We trust in a short fix by OnePlus.
Also present time-lapse and options slow-motion a 120 fps in HD.
OnePlus 3 - Audio
Thanks to technology Dirac HD Sound l'audio played from the speaker is very good both as a volume and as a frequency range.
In the speakerphone the device tends to slightly croak, but there are no problems either in the headset or through the ear capsule. Absent FM radio.
OnePlus 3 - Connectivity
The device is equipped with a double SIM slot format Nano with support LTE Cat.6, hot switch and support for 20 band (800 MHz).
We were impressed by the power of the reception, reliable even in shady areas where other terminals have presented many problems.
No problem with the 802.11 Wi-Fi a / b / g / n / ac Dual Band, NFC with support ad Android Pay and with the GPS/GLONASS/Beidou.
OnePlus 3 - Software
The device is moved by Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow custom interface with proprietary interface Oxygen OS 3.1.2 (recently updated via OTA).
The ROM results very fluid e performances being almost stock in the interface and in the functionalities.
The customizations adopted by OnePlus are the following:
- Hand Gestures: off-screen gestures (including double tap to wake);
- LED : customize the color of the notification LED;
- Dark theme: the AMOLED display can be exploited thanks to a pleasant dark theme;
- night mode: Remove the blue filter for pleasant reading in the dark e poco annoying;
- Shelf: the typical quick panel of the Oxygen OS from which to manage weather, widgets, quick memos, applications and contacts.
- on-screen keys: Display the on-screen buttons and / or assign them functions based on pressure.
OnePlus 3 - Autonomy
The battery is a unit from 3000 mAh that guarantees with a really heavy use (including 5 push email, 2 Skype account, 2 WhatsApp account and a Telegram account) about 3,5 hours on screen turned on. With use Medium-intense you can also reach them 4/5 hours of screen lit.
Fast charging Dash Charge da 5V 4A allows you to recharge the battery of the 60% in about 30 minutes e 0-100% in about 80 minutes, not heating the terminal during the process.
OnePlus 3 - Conclusions
Given the current price and our experience of use, we definitely recommend to recommend this device to those looking for a top of the range fromexcellent value for money.
Of course, OnePlus 3 obviously has its shortcomings, both small and large, but it does not have obvious deficiencies in any field and as far as we are concerned it can be considered one of the best-buy currently on the market.
Il OnePlus 3 is available a 399 € in the variant Graphite with shipping without customs directly fromEurope and 388 € su GearBest with shipping without customs Italy Express. A variant will also arrive in July Soft Gold.
