Vivo Xplay 5 - Sales package

Live Xplay 5

Vivo Xplay 5 is equipped with one package long and narrow that shows, in the front, the brand and compatibility with the 4G +; however, inside, we can find:

  • I live Xplay 5;
  • charger with Chinese plug, USB input and 2A output;
  • USB data cable - micro USB;
  • in-ear earphones;
  • SIM removal pin;
  • user manuals in Chinese;
  • rigid plastic cover, with metallic borders.

Vivo Xplay 5 - Design and materials

Live Xplay 5

Raise your hand who has not noticed the resemblance with the Samsung Galaxy Edge S7... all of you have seen it, right? In fact Live Xplay 5 in the front it appears to be poco original, but no less elegant and detailed. The high-end device of the Chinese company, in fact, has a Dual-Edge screen that gives an exceptional grip, despite the dimensions certainly not very small.

Vivo Xplay 5 is great 153.5 76.2 x x 7.5mm and weighs only 167 grams, definitely in the average of devices with similar dimensions. However Vivo Xplay 5 is made of glass in the front with finishing Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which allows the device to be much more resistant, especially in more "fragile" points such as lateral curvatures.

The back cover of Vivo Xplay 5, on the other hand, is entirely in aluminum; the body is not removable (reason why the battery is not removable), and on the back we also find a elegant fingerprint sensor finished in a slightly darker color, as well as the two white bands at the top and bottom of the device (like iPhone) which, presumably, let the signal pass.

Next, instead, find the layout of the buttons and inputs available on the Vivo Xplay 5.

Live Xplay 5

Starting from the lower side, we find from the left the system microphone, followed by two fixing screws in the center of which is the micro USB connector for recharging the battery; on the far right, however, the system speaker is present.

Live Xplay 5

On the top, then, we have the 3.5mm jack for headphones and the second microphone for environmental noise reduction.

Live Xplay 5

On the right side, however, Vivo has inserted the power button, lock and turn off as well as the rocker for volume adjustment.

Live Xplay 5

On the opposite side, finally, we have the trolley for the insertion of the two SIM cards in Nano format.

At the back of the device, then, there is the camera from 16 mega-pixel with its flash Dual-LED while further down is the sensor for fingerprint detection.

Vivo Xplay 5 - Display

Live Xplay 5

One of the major peculiarities of this device is the display that makes its flagship the double lateral curvature which, although it has not been exploited at the software level, makes the device very elegant.

The supplied panel is a unit from 5.43 inches with resolution 2K 1440 × 2560 pixels, the display matrix is Super AMOLED and pixel density is very high, 567PPI.

Set aside the technical data, we can say that the display of Live Xplay 5 is a unit that convinces, but unfortunately not fully: the screen has a very high definition and is noticeable in the use of every day, but unfortunately the maximum brightness is not very high and, when used under sunlight, it is often impossible to see perfectly all the details that the display is able to reproduce.

Live Xplay 5

La double curvature, then, it is only "apparent" and the reasons can be summarized in the absence of software functions dedicated to it (as it happens, however, on Samsung's Edge devices), as well as anti aesthetic black edges along the entire perimeter of the display.

At night, or in environments with low light, it is also possible to notice a small construction defect; the backlighting of the display, in fact, emerges from the side edges and near the lower touch keys, an effect certainly not to be underestimated in a price range like this.

Vivo Xplay 5 - Internal memory

Vivo Xplay 5 is marketed with one internal memory of 128GB that, net of system applications and the OS itself, there are about 116GB available to the user for the storage of personal data and applications.

However, it is not possible to further expand the internal storage (even if, with this memory cut, you will hardly feel the need), since there is not a microSD slot.

Vivo Xplay 5 - Hardware and performance

Contrary to what one might have expected, the Vivo Xplay 5 does not feature a high-end processor of Qualcomm, but the new one Snapdragon 652, processor from the Octa-Core architecture divided into 4 Core Cortex-A72 to 1.8GHz, while other 4 Core Cortex-A53 to 1.4GHz, with the usual BiG.Little structure.

The amount of RAM, in the version we test, is well 4GB of type LPPDR3 to 933MHz (the variant with 6GB of RAM memory is also available on the market), while the GPU is a 510 Adreno with clock set to 550MHz.

Beyond the technical data, however, the Vivo Xplay 5 in everyday use has come out with its head held high from practically all situations, despite not having an excellent optimized software on its side. However, in the playback of the movies he had no difficulty, starting from FullHD videos in MKV up to 4K MP4.

Il web browsingmoreover, it is more than good; unfortunately the browser is totally in Chinese, with logos, favorites and customizations in Chinese alphabet. However, the result is good: websites open quickly, and even on the heaviest pages the device is responsive and free of clicks.

Il Gaming with Asphalt 8 it is, finally, absolutely convincing; the performances obtained in the test phase have been definitely above expectations and, moreover, it must be said that the device does not heat minimally, even if the aluminum frame should immediately notice this aspect.

Below, however, the results of the benchmarks carried out with the Vivo Xplay 5.

Live Xplay 5 - Audio

Live Xplay 5

Another aspect optimized to the great is it speaker of system; the latter is located at the bottom next to the microUSB connector and, in the reproduction of the audio samples, has proved more than at the height.

The output volume is very high, the sound is clear and clean, and the frequencies are all well balanced, with no predominance of highs or lows.

Vivo Xplay 5 - Connectivity

The Vivo Xplay 5 is equipped with a double SIM housing, and both are supported in Nano format; for what concerns the network frequencies supported, we have an almost full compatibility with the 4G here on our territory, except for the 20 band (800MHz) which, unfortunately, is not available in this model.

La reception, however, is slightly dancer but despite this difficulty you can do virtually any operation even with a single notch of reception. Wi-Fi is DualBand, it is fast in packet transmission and stable with the signal.

Vivo Xplay 5 - Camera

Live Xplay 5

The camera of Live Xplay 5 It is a well-XMUMX mega-pixel unit with a sensor Sony IMX298 Exmor RS, equipped with Dual-LED flash; the front chamber, however, is well XMUMX mega-pixel with f / 8 aperture of which we do not know information about the sensor.

The camera software is well done; the application, in fact, is full of features that allow us to fully exploit the entire photographic sector of the Live Xplay 5 which, therefore, allows you to make quality shots.

In daily use, in fact, the camera of the device was more than satisfactory; the focus is really fast, the light changes are managed flawlessly and even at night, regardless of the use of the flash, thanks to the specially dedicated mode you can get good quality shots.

Vivo Xplay 5 - Software

One of the biggest flaws on this device is the software, but it is clear, not due to the lack of functions or additions (which, in itself, are very many on this smartphone) but for theincompatibility of Google services that, at the moment, force us to use an old version of the Play Store (the one present at the time of Android KitKat, to be clear), which, however, does not allow the installation of 95% of commonly used applications, given the need for update the Google market.

This lack, however, is easily circumvented by using services like Aptoide and Blackmart (certainly much less secure and intuitive, but until a definite solution arrives, it's a good way to get by), while applications that are part of the Google suite, such as Gmail, can not be used until it is resolved problematic.

However, if it were not for this problem, the software turns out to be well optimized and full of implementations that aim to improve the security of the device as well as to safeguard its autonomy; the ROM is based on Android Lollipop 5.1.1, but unfortunately lacks the Italian language.

Vivo Xplay 5 - Autonomy

The battery is a unit from 3600 mAh and, in the use of every day it has proved to be more than satisfactory, considering the fact of having almost always used it under the 4G data network and maximum brightness for the duration of the tests.

The device, in fact, manages to get around 4 hours of active screen with intense use that, considering the presence of an 2K screen, are really many. Excellent work for Vivo, who therefore knew how to optimize the software.

Vivo Xplay 5 - Final considerations

In light of the sale price of over 600 €, Live Xplay 5 it is a device that makes us reflect long before giving the "final response". It must be said that Vivo's smartphone is made almost impeccably at a constructive level, but with such a figure we bring home a smartphone that, at the moment, has a bit 'of problems at the software level that, for the novice users can be very annoying.

So, in a nutshell, Live Xplay 5 it is a device in any case recommended, but not at all; if you are in the band of geeky users and who like to get their hands on their devices then the Live Xplay 5 Is what is your case.

Live Xplay 5 is available on TopResellerStore with shipping from Italy and 24 months warranty for the price of 619 euros.
