Meizu Metal, the review of

Meizu Metal - Packaging and accessories

The box of sale of the device is made of cardboard buanco, with the name of the device on the front and some technical specifications on the back.

Inside we find a film to remove that protects and keeps the device and accessories in the correct position.

In addition to the smartphone, we find the following accessories:

  • Wall-mounted 1.5A power supply in Chinese format;
  • USB cable - micro USB;
  • user manual in Chinese language;
  • pin to extract the dual SIM / micro SD tray.

Meizu Metal - Design and metariali

The device takes up very closely the design and the aesthetic lines already seen on the Meizu M2 Notand with the difference, as the name suggests, of the presence of metal in the construction of the body which, to the touch, seems to be made of plastic.

This feeling comes from the fact that the internal structure of the back cover, made of magnesium and aluminum alloy, has been painted with a matte finish, very pleasant in the touch & fell (almost rubberized) and useful for improving grip.

The dimensions are of 150.7 x 75.3 x 8.2 mm for a weight, battery from 3140 mAh included, of 162 grams, slightly higher than 149 grams of Meizu M2 Notes.

At the bottom, the now widespread key is installed mBack with fingerprint reader mTouch 2.1 (extremely precise in reading the impression) and at the top a small notification LED, the ear capsule, the 5 mega-pixel camera and the classic brightness and proximity sensors.

Meizu Metal - Display

The panel mounted on the Metal is a unit LTPS da 5.5 inches diagonal with resolution Full HD 1920 x 1080 with Curved 2.5D glass and Pixel Density PPI 401.

The display is characterized by an excellent brightness, well managed by the appropriate sensor, with a faithful color rendering and an optimal color calibration. In comparison with the Meizu M2 Notes, L 'M1 Metal it turns out to be better calibrated in the management of white, even if the previous model of an IGZO panel is equipped, known, among other things, for the reproduction of "really white" whites.

It is possible to change the display temperature directly from the appropriate menu in the system settings.

Meizu Metal - Hardware and performance

Despite its low-cost nature, the device is characterized by a high-profile hardware, characterized by a processor octa-core Mediatek Helio X10 (MT6795) with clock a 2.0 GHz accompanied by 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM, a PowerVR GPU G6200 and 16/32 GB Expandable internal memory via micro SD, but can only be used alternately with the second SIMs. and with card compatibility up to 128 GB.

This configuration guarantees high profile performance for a medium range. The terminal, in fact, arises halfway between theM2 Notes el 'MX5.

NOTE: Of the 16GB of internal memory of the sample under test, at the first notice about 9GB are available.

The temperature management is also excellent, as they never exceed the "alarm" levels.

Meizu Metal - Antutu Benchmark

Here are all the other benchmark tests performed on the device:

Meizu Metal - Photographic compartment

The photographic sector is almost superimposable to that of the Meizu M2 Notes and in fact is characterized by a sensor from 13 mega-pixels back accompanied by a Dual Dual LED Flash and opening f / 2.2. However, compared toM2 Notes, Metal it is equipped with phase detection autofocus PDAF.

The front camera, on the other hand, is characterized by a sensor from 5 mega-pixels with aperture f / 2.0.

The yield of the shots is average, both in daytime and in low light conditions. In the latter circumstance the shots are characterized by a lot of noise. The focus, despite the PDAF autofocus, is not always very fast and guaranteed.

The front camera, however, allows you to make pretty balanced selfies, without any particular improvements compared to the Meizu M2 Notes.

The videos, finally, do not convince, because, despite the maximum resolution FullHD, the same are very disturbed, with final files definitely compressed in size.

Meizu Metal - Connectivity

As anticipated in ours previous focus, with regard to 4G LTE connectivity, the terminal is characterized by the presence of only one band 1800Mhz, Or the B3, therefore both the 800Mhz that the 2600Mhz.

This limitation will prevent the use of the 4G terminal with the Wind operator. We therefore invite you to check the network coverage in your area before making any purchase.

No problem, however, with regard to connectivity HSPA+. The reception of the device is good, both in 4G, when available, that in 3G, with cell exchange also fast enough.

No problem with the WiFi 802.11 ac / b / g / n dual band, the Bluetooth in version 4.1 Low Energy and GPS with Glonass.

Meizu Metal - Audio

Il single speaker system guarantees a rather high and balanced audio with a slight distortion at maximum volume. Bass subdued.

Meizu Metal - Battery

The battery from 3140 mAh supplied with the device guarantees, with intense use, both active SIMs and switch between connectivity 3G e 4G, about 3 hours of screen on, while with a more moderate use and with prevalent use of connectivity in WiFi we reach the 4 hours on screen turned on.

Present theMCharge 2.0, or the fast recharge of Meizu, which guarantees charging times of approx 1 hour and a half.

Meizu Metal - Software

The terminal is moved by the operating system Flyme OS based on Yunos (an Android Fork from Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba).

The system is quite fluid and the software features are executed correctly without too many problems.

To report that compared to Android classic the system is less fluid or otherwise does not guarantee the same level of performance, especially in high-resolution video playback.

All the news already seen in our focus on Flyme OS 5.0 they are also present on this terminal, both as regards the graphic and functional aspects.

Meizu Metal - Final considerations

Il Meizu Metal It is certainly an interesting device, above all by virtue of the excellent quality / price compromise, to the metal design and to the presence of all the pluses to which it has accustomed us Meizu.

However, the system Yunos, the photographic sector and the incomplete one 4G connectivity are the main weaknesses of the device, in addition, of course, the absence of the Italian language.

The Meizu Metal is available on offer on (white 16GB version only) for only 184 € thanks to the discount code Metal16GB (for the use of the discount code it is necessary to first log in).
