The photographic sector is entrusted to one rear camera da 13 mega-pixels with second generation sensor Sony IMX214 ed opening F / 2.0, 6 lenses and dual dual tone LED flash it's a front camera da 4 mega-pixels with 2-micron sensor.

Xiaomi Mi Note

One of the main novelties (for Xiaomi) introduced by the device is the dual SIM support on a smartphone Top of Gamma. Previously, in fact, the company had presented only low-cost devices with dual SIM support (Redmi series).

Therefore, on the Mi Note, it will be possible to use two SIM (one micro and one nano) at the same time, both with support for connectivity LTE 4G.

Xiaomi Mi Note: Design

From the point of view of construction materials, the Mi Note is a device that is certainly positioned in the premium range of the market. Absolute quality of materials, refined design and perfect assembly, are the three elements that make this smartphone probably the best ever among the Chinese ones and, perhaps, also including the devices produced by the most famous brands.

Xiaomi Mi Note

The rear body is characterized by an elegant coating with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and, in general, the device is very solid, in particular thanks to the metal perimeter frame.

Xiaomi Mi Note

Observing the design of the back of the Mi Note it is possible to notice a peculiarity, on which the company has focused a lot during the launch and also in the immediate post launch. The camera, in fact, is not protruding and this, especially in consideration of the reduced thickness of the device, certainly represents an excellent result for Xiaomi.

Despite the generous dimensions - 155.1 x 77.6 x 6.95 mm for a total weight, battery from 3000mAh not removable including, of 161 grams -, the Mi Note is held very well in one hand thanks to the bevel of the edges of the back cover.

Xiaomi Mi Note

The handle, in fact, is made sure by this trick, which, moreover, gives a very pleasant appearance to the device also from the point of view of design.

Furthermore, the use with one hand is favored by the presence of the one-handed mode (which can be activated with a simple swipe from the home button to one of the two side), but, unfortunately, this feature is not settable by the settings, as on this version of MIUI is missing the dedicated menu. It will probably be added with a subsequent update.

Xiaomi Mi Note vs Xiaomi Mi4

Xiaomi Mi Note: 5.7 inch FULLHD display

This "basic" version of the device is characterized by a 5.7 inches with a FULLHD resolution 1920 1080 pixels x equal to a density of 386PPI, which allows an excellent experience of use of multimedia content. The brightness is excellent, the sensor works well enough, although I have rarely had to intervene manually in the setting. However, readability is also good enough with the panel exposed to direct sunlight.

Xiaomi Mi Note

The colors are well reproduced, even if the white has not convinced me particularly, as I find it slightly tending to gray. Instead, black is quite deep.

From a careful analysis of the display, moreover, on the outlines it is possible to detect a slight overflow of the backlight, but this is a detectable detail only after a very thorough observation and, therefore, probably not influential in the daily use experience.

Also excellent viewing angle and touch, very very responsive.

Xiaomi Mi Note: MIUI 6

The operating system installed on this Xiaomi Mi Note is Android KitKat 4.4.4 with the now famous customization MIUI ROM, in 6 version on this device.

For those who do not know it, MIUI ROM is the customization made by the Xiaomi development team and it is a ROM without the application drawer (the classic menu that we open through the touch of the menu dedicated to the display where you can find the list of all installed applications). In MIUI all the apps are directly present on the various pages of the Home screen.

With the MIUI 6 Xiaomi has introduced an interface much more flat than the previous version V5 and, with the passing of the weeks / months, the ROM is enriching with features that in the first releases, we must say, were scarce.

In addition to this aspect, the MIUI ROM is very famous in the Android scenario for the huge amount of customizations entered by Xiaomi and for the presence of its own store of the Themes, through which you can completely change the appearance of your smartphone simply through the application of a theme, free or paid, among those available in the store itself.

The application of the same will modify the entire interface or, according to your preferences, it will be possible to modify only some parameters, such as, for example, the lock screen, the background and the style of the icons.

Below is an overview of the system screens.

Also present a very convenient security application for managing access permissions for individual apps, for managing RAM, internal memory and data usage. Through this last entry it will be possible to set a threshold limit to the 3G / 4G navigation.

It will also be possible to manage the battery by also programming switch actions between one mode and the other with a programmed time or when it reaches a certain percentage level of residual charge.

Calendar and clock graphics are also very beautiful.

The drop-down menu, divided into "notifications" and "shortcuts", is characterized by minimal graphics and a transparency effect. The possibility of managing notifications has been expanded which, in the new version of MIUI ROM, allows you to view a greater number of quick toggles and arrange them according to your needs.

The music application is characterized by the classic listened listening recommended based on the music in its multimedia library and based on the listening trend of users. Being a Chinese device it will be normal to see among the "recommended" songs of Chinese artists.

We conclude this overview of the software installed on this Xiaomi Mi Note with a series of screenshots of the interface itself.

Xiaomi Mi Note: performance and benchmark

Xiaomi Mi Note, AnTuTu Benchmark: 47.292 points.

Here are the other benchmarks performed:

Xiaomi Mi Note: Gaming test with Real Racing 3

The Xiaomi Mi Note is a device equipped with hardware that can easily run even the most demanding games, such as, for example, the "classic" Real Racing 3. The title, in fact, runs perfectly on the device, the elements are al maximum (including the reflection in the rear-view mirrors) and the fluidity of the game is excellent.

So, gaming on Mi Note promoted e Adreno 330 that confirms a still very good GPU!

Xiaomi Mi Note: Telephone part, 3G and 4G browsing

The Xiaomi Mi Note is a high-end device with support Dual SIM dual LTE 4G.

The reception level is excellent, even if I noticed lower performance than the other devices tested recently from the point of view of 4G connectivity, which is also confirmed by the classic speed test that follows, in which the Mi Note in download exceeds poco the 14 megabits.

The audio is quite loud, but, both in the speaker and in the ear capsule, is slightly croaking, especially with volume set to maximum.

No problem however with regard to the audio in headphones, excellent.

Xiaomi Mi Note: 4G LTE test

Xiaomi Mi Note: WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS

Nothing to say about WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS: simply perfect.

Xiaomi Mi NoteQuality of cameras

The camera from 13 mega-pixel of the Mi Note (detailed specifications in the introduction) allows the realization of good shots.

Photo taken with Xiaomi Mi Notes

The level of the photos is very good in conditions of good brightness, but gradually loses quality with the reduction of the overall level of brightness of the scene.

In the night photos, in fact, a little 'noise is immediately visible, even if the average quality of the shots is not bad. Let's see in detail some shots.

Good macro, even if the results are not always of the same quality level.

Here, however, some samples made in conditions of good brightness:

Here are the shots made in low light or with artificial light.

Here are some examples of shots taken using HDR mode:

We close with the shots taken with the help of the flash, which illuminates the portrait subject evenly without overexposing it excessively:

In general, the level of the photographic sector of the Xiaomi Mi Note is very good, but still lower than that of the Meizu MX4 / MX4 Pro.

Xiaomi Mi Note: 1080p video recording test

No problem with video recording, possible at maximum 4K resolution. Here is a test shot:

Xiaomi Mi Note: Audio / video playback test

The Mi Note reproduces all the most popular formats and shows no problem with our classic test file in 4K (codec H.264). In the video review it will be possible to observe a test.

the H.265, on the other hand, is reproducible at a maximum resolution of 1080p.

Xiaomi Mi Note: Battery

The battery life of the Mi Note is average, but disappointing considering the expectations of the manufacturer. With the device in mode balanced, with both SIM active and alternation of 4G / 3G and WiFi, allows the device to arrive after dinner and with approx 4 hours and minutes 15 of screen lit while in mode performance, with which there are slight differences in performance, the autonomy collapses to a maximum of 3 hours of screen lit.

Xiaomi Mi Note battery

Obviously the hope is that this data will improve significantly with the next updates of the MIUI 6 for XIaomi Mi Note.

Xiaomi Mi Note: final Thoughts

Xiaomi is certainly working very well in the creation of devices with a very refined and "intriguing" design and this MI Note is the confirmation, so much so that I consider it the beautiful smartphone among all those on the market.

Unfortunately, the problem is that - as the saying goes - "the dress does not make the priest", especially when this monk requires "very high offers for his services".

Xiaomi Mi Note

The price of the Mi Note, in fact, in my opinion is definitely too high for what it currently offers and on the market there are very valid alternatives at much more competitive prices (one above all - without bothering the MX4 - the Meizu M1 Notes).

The audio sector of the Mi Note is disappointing, despite the presence of an audio chip and a dedicated amplifier, and the battery life needs to be improved, especially when using the device in mode performance. The photographic sector, although it is absolutely not to be rejected, is however not at the same level as that of smartphones in the same price range.
