Elephone P6000, complete specifications

  • 5 display in JDI IPS 720p to 293 PPI;
  • CPU MediaTek MT6732 Quad Core 1.5GHz to 64-Bit;
  • ARM MALI-T760 GPU;
  • 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory expandable via MicroSD;
  • 13 megapixel main camera and 2 megapixel front camera;
  • Dual SIM MicroSIM format with support for WiFi, EDGE, GPRS, UMTS, HSPA, HSPA +, FDD-LTE;
  • Battery by 2700mAh;
  • Android 4.4.4 Kitkat, soon upgradeable via OTA to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The first important aspect of the specifications is the presence of a chipset MediaTek MT6732, including Quad core processor 64bit at the frequency from 1.5GHz e GPU Mali T760, combined with well 2GB RAM. An excellent basic hardware equipment, considering nature low-cost of this device.

The internal memory from 16GB is estimated in a single partition from 12,36GB, expandable via MicroSD up to 32GB.

Also worth mentioning is the LTE network support (FDD-LTE: 800 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 MHz ) on the two Micro-SIM cards, the real strength and reason for buying the Elephone P6000.

Absent unfortunately the compass e-compass, the firmware on board the device runs on 4.4.4 Android KitKat stock version without customization of the manufacturer, excluding the modification of some icons of the fundamental app. Elephone has long promised an official update to Android 5.0 Lollipop, but we are still awaiting the official release. Finally, the device is already factory rooted.

Elephone P6000, Design

Elephone P6000 presents a nice design, with a form factor and lines inspired by the Meizu MX4, especially as regards the positioning of the elements in the removable rear body in satin gray plastic, totally refractory to the fingerprints.

La constructive quality it is average, the terminal does not creak and proves solid and resistant, even if it tends to accumulate too much dust inside the frame, in the compartment reserved for internal components.

By removing the rear body we can access the battery compartment from 2700mAh, above which are located the two slots for the Micro-SIM and the one for the MicroSD. I must report that I had some difficulty in inserting my adapted SIM, in fact, due to the imperfect insertion mechanism, the Nano-SIM tended to be thrown out of the small plastic adapter.

At the front are the brightness and proximity sensors, the speaker for calls and the front camera, as well as the three soft-touch keys back, menu and home. The latter, circular in shape, is used as a notification LED, blinking to signal any unread messages.

Later we can see the 13 megapixel camera, the single flash led, the company logo and the speaker.

While the left side is without any door or key, the right side houses the on / off key and the volume balance.

Finally, the upper and the lower side respectively house the standard 3,5mm headphone jack and the micro-usb port (on which the OTG function can not be used), as well as the main microphone.

With dimensions equal to 144,5 x 71,6 x 8,9 mm thick, Elephone P6000 proves to be a very comfortable device for one-handed use. Too bad for the weight of 165 grams, slightly excessive for a smartphone with 5 display diagonal inches.

Elephone P6000, Benchmark

Unfortunately, as anticipated in the unboxing, I was not able to launch Antutu Benchmark, because the well-known Test App recognized an attempt to tamper with the result and blocked the performance verification.

So I proceeded to launch Antutu X e Geekbench, which results can be verified from the following screenshots.

Elephone P6000, Display

The display from 5 inches ofElephone P6000 highlights a good quality, with a faithful reproduction of the colors of the RGB matrix and of the contrast. Even the viewing angles do not disappoint, considering the technology IPS of the mounted panel.

Unfortunately, there is a factory defect, which causes an effect "aqueous”Of the liquid crystal of the display, obvious defect by making a strong pressure in the upper part of the screen. Nothing that invalidates the experience of use, but it is a sin to notice such imperfection on a device with a good build quality.

The resolution equal to 1280 × 720 pixels, for a density of PPI 293, allows a dignified use of the characters and images, while sometimes causing the need to zoom in during web browsing to read more comfortably. Despite being at the maximum acceptable limit for a 5 inch display marketed in the 2015, it must be said that the lower resolution limits consumption, benefiting from general autonomy.

There is a welcome possibility to modify the parameters of the display through the menu Miravision, so as to arrive at the settings preferred by everyone. The system is illustrated in the video review.

The brightness sensor is discreetly functional, even if I noticed an incorrect calibration of the same: while the maximum brightness allows a good use even during sunny days, the minimum level appears too high for easy use at night, forcing third-party app downloads like Blue filter, necessary to darken the screen above the allowed level and wear less eyes.

Finally, I did not detect any jams of the 5 input multi-touch touch screen, Elephone was able to solve the bug that affected the first copies of P6000 marketed on the market.

Elephone P6000, photographic department

The photographic industry presents lights and shadows, but proves still good considering the reduced cost of this device. As you can see from the following photos taken via the App Camera stock of Android KitKat, in good light conditions the sensor 8 megapixel, interpolated to 13 megapixel, manages to capture the details in the scene with a good sharpen. Too bad for the presence of some chromatic aberrations in the case where sunlight affected the lens of our smartphone.

Very good macro, although with some difficulty focusing in low light conditions. Fortunately on these occasions it is possible to use the auxiliary flash LED.

The biggest problems are encountered in night shots, where the photographic sensor struggles to capture the right amount of light, losing in brightness and sharpness. I also noticed the tendency of the software to overexpose the pictures taken with the flash, symptoms of an incorrect calibration of the system, which tends to increase the ISO sensitivity too much while using the flasher.

Sufficient the 2 megapixel front camera, suitable for occasional selfies and video calls.

Definitely poor quality video recording in FullHD, as you can see yourself from the following sample video. The activation of the stabilizer and the reduction of the noise generates an evident noise on the screen, capable of seriously compromising the video's vision.

Elephone P6000, Multimedia: audio and video

Analyzing the multimedia sector, the giant steps made by the new Mediatek SoCs are evident. The chipset MT6732 on board the elephone P6000 behaved very well with video test files: no difficulty with the format H264 (even with some loss of frames with a very high bit-rate file in 4K) and excellent compatibility with the new codec H265 HEVC, in front of which Elephone P6000 did not show the side even with a heavy file in FullHD resolution.

The test was performed via the app downloaded from the Play Store MX Player, because the stock reader has highlighted various incompatibilities, resulting unusable for multimedia use.

The audio sector proves to be in line with the low cost nature of this terminal. While the single speaker can reproduce an acceptably high volume, without croaking or distorting the audio frequencies, the music reproduced in the headphones has a maximum output volume that is excessively low, albeit with a good quality and sound fidelity.

It is possible to intervene on listening through headphones through the dedicated settings in the menu of audio profiles, activating a surround effect and bass amplifier, in my opinion invalidating the music listening experience.

Elephone P6000, Connectivity: 4G / 3G and GPS

No defects to report from the connectivity side. During the test week Elephone P6000 proved to be a reliable companion in any situation, with a signal that has never left me both outside and inside the premises.

I could test the support a LTE under Wind in Milan and I was impressed by the speed in download achieved by this technology, although my advice is to pay attention to the amount of data downloaded in the case of consumer rates. It is also possible to switch from the 3G network to the 4G in a very simple and intuitive way from the system settings.

Also excellent GPS, able to quickly hook up the satellites and to guide me without difficulty in navigation on the road, through the Google browser, assisted by internet.

Elephone P6000, Autonomy

Considering the display by the resolution is not very high and the battery well 2700mAh I would have expected something more from the data on autonomy, which in my test day reached more than 4 hours of display lit before leaving me.

In any case, by activating the setting of energy saving and with a moderate use, the device easily reaches the 5 hours of the display switched on with automatic brightness. We are still talking about a smartphone capable of arriving without problems at the end of the evening.

Elephone P6000, Conclusions

In conclusion, Elephone P6000 convinced me, by virtue of the good quality-price ratio.

As anticipated in the introduction, it is a device designed for users with specific needs, first of all the support for dual-SIM and LTE network. These two specifications, in fact, together with the excellent performances guaranteed by the Chipset Mediatek and the 2GB of RAM make this terminal an obligatory choice for those who need to surf at high speed, perhaps for business needs, but does not want to give up the reactivity and fluidity of the system, all at a really captivating price.
