The SoC is not a mediatek, component present in the vast majority of low-end devices, but the known Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, quad-core chipset operating at the frequency of 2.2GHz, which it still has today poco to be envied in terms of performance to the recent Octacore launched on the market. There Adreno GPU 330, coupled to 3GB RAM and 32GB not expandable, it guarantees exceptional performance even with the most recent and heavy games.

The photographic sector is the flagship of this smartphone: the sensor CMOS 1 / 2,3 inches from 16 megapixel of the front camera with sapphire crystal lenses and f / 2.2 aperture aperture ensures crispness and enviable photo quality. Excellent also the front 8 megapixel real camera (not interpolated), perfect for lovers of selfie and for those who often use video calls.

Unfortunately, even after many months of release, the manufacturer has not yet released an official update to KitKat or Lollipop.

Gionee Elife E7 - Design

I'll be honest: the first contact with the Gionee Elife E7 was not dazzling. The plastic materials and the definite squaring of the corners (the form-factor is very similar to that of the Nokia Lumia models), gave the device an effect "giocattoloso“, Definitely poco luxurious.

However, once you get comfortable with the phone you can appreciate all its good qualities: the device is very robust and gives a great feeling of general solidity. In addition, the glossy plastic used for the smartphone frame is of excellent quality and does not withhold any fingerprints. After a few days of testing I can say that I stayed rapt from the design of this Gioonee, which, especially if used inside the leather cover supplied as standard, is a classy device, also suitable for those who pay close attention to these design aspects.

On the front of the device we see the front camera, the ambient light sensor, the notification LED and the proximity sensor. At the bottom are the backlit soft touch keys home, back e menu.

The glossy plastic back shell gives an excellent grip to the touch. On the back surface we find, also, the second microphone for the reduction of the whistles, the protruding camera, the flash LED and the company logo.

On the upper side there is the 3.5 mm jack for the headphones and the on / off button.

While on the left side we find only the slot for the MicroSim, removable using the special Pin, on the right side we see the volume rocker. From the photos you can appreciate the total absence of bevel of the side edges.

Below we find the two speakers, the main microphone and the MicroSD slot with function OTG. The position of the two speakers allows excellent enjoyment of the audio even when the phone is placed along a surface.

The dimensions measure 150.6 x 75.0 x 9.5 mm while the weight is equal to 150 gramsThe device is therefore very light and compact when held in hand.

Gionee Elife E7 - Display

As a great phablet lover, I was very satisfied with the Gionee Elife E7 display. The FullHD resolution with pixel density of 401 PPI makes a perfect sharpness in text reading and web browsing, the brightness is uniform with no halos and backlight and even the ambient light sensor behaved very well, adapting to the lighting conditions external in a gradual way and, therefore, without being annoying.

I noticed that the display has very warm colors, with a slightly yellowish white and with a clear predominance of red in the RGB matrix. Personally I really appreciated this feature of the panel mounted, because, by decreasing the blue component of the images on the screen, it makes the use of the product more pleasant and less tiring for the eyes.

The contrast is very good, the dynamic range from white to black is faithfully reproduced and the viewing angles are at the top of the IPS category. No problem for touch, extremely responsive in every situation and able to manage up to 10 input simultaneously.

Gionee Elife E7 - Software and Amigo 2.0 interface

After a few minutes of use, the care that Gionee has reserved for its personalized interface is evident Amigo 2.0. Starting from the launcher, without the application drawer, which are then placed directly on the desktop screens, everything has been graphically modified compared to the stock version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

In addition to the normal settings of Android we also find some nice additions, such as the ability to choose the behavior of the LED notification and the presence of Smart Gestures, among which the beloved possibility to turn the display off with a double tap.

The house has also installed custom app such as that reserved for music, the gallery and the choice of particular themes, including wallpapers and graphically apt icons.

In general I must admit that I really appreciated this Amigo 2.0, richer and more customizable than the stock version of Jelly Bean. Too bad that the launcher, very attractive in terms of graphics, is poco optimized and often suffers from lag and slowdowns that we would not have expected on such hardware. These problems are certainly due to a poor optimization of the application, as the processor and 3GB of RAM allow a perfectly fluid experience in any activity processed by the device, in the total absence of appointments even under high multitasking.

I was therefore very impressed by the reactivity of this Gionee Elif E7, just a step below that of Google's Nexus 5, still undefeated today, at least according to my personal opinion.

In conclusion, once the factory launcher has been replaced with another one downloaded from the Play Store, the user experience with this smartphone amazes for its excellent performance and ample customization possibilities.

Gionee Elife E7 - Photographic compartment

Gionee has put a lot of attention on the camera and the results are excellent. Elife E7 is one of the few smartphones capable of dealing with the most famous top of the range in terms of quality of shots.

The manufacturer has provided the smartphone with two dedicated apps: the first, which is simply called camera, allows to modify through a special interface different values such as ISO sensitivity, aspect ratio, exposure and multiple environmental situations, such as night mode, overview and sport.

Nothing that we do not find in other models, but should be applauded to the developers for facilitating the use of these settings. The second App, called CharmCam, allows you to let your imagination run wild with dedicated filters and effects.

As you can see from the test photos the sensor CMOS from 16 megapixel perfectly reproduces the subjects portrayed, with particular attention to the macro, where the sharpness is really exceptional.

The HDR function is one of the most performing that I've ever tried: from the following shots it is clear how the use of this feature presents a better performance of the dynamic range and contrast of the scene framed.

Definitely good flash, only discrete night images instead, where the sharpness drops drastically and the noise on the screen becomes evident. We are however above the average of the devices under the euro 200.

Excellent front camera by well 8 megapixel, able to capture an enviable amount of detail, with a perfect balance of exposure. The front chamber of this Gionee Elife E7 does not show up compared to many main cameras on board low-end devices.

The sensor shows its good qualities even with video recording in FullHD, as you can appreciate yourself from the following test.

Gionee Elife E7 - Multimedia: audio and video

I was also pleasantly surprised by the excellent multimedia performance. While the two speakers - "unusually" placed along the lower side - are of good quality, thanks to a faithful reproduction of the sound even at maximum volume, which is also very high, even the audio sent to the headphones does not disappoint at all.

As an audiophile I was satisfied with the music reproduced by mine Audio Technica ATH-M50, by virtue of the freedom left by the app dedicated to listening to music, which allows you to "fiddle" with different audio settings, so as to arrive at the best compromise based on everyone's needs.

Bad news comes from the video side instead. In front of a good dedicated app, which allows to put “in popup"The movies, so as to reduce them in the window and perform other activities in the meantime, the hardware unfortunately fails to reproduce all the videos of my test. Both using the stock app and the MX player, I was unable to view the videos in codec fluidly H.265 and also the movies in 4K with high bitrate in H.264. No problem with the other FullHD and 2K files in H.264 and in Xvid and Dvx format.

Gionee Elife E7 - Connectivity: 2g, 3g, bluetooth and GPS

Nothing to signal from the connectivity side: the signal remains very stable under the TIM network both in 2G and in 3G, without sudden and unexpected drops. GPS is definitely excellent, superior to the performance of many mediatek chips. The satellite fix is almost immediate and the navigation on the street proved to be perfect using the Google navigator assisted by the 3G network.

Gionee Elife E7 - Autonomy

The data on autonomy is decidedly excellent. Thanks to the low consumption guaranteed by Snapdragon 800 and to the good optimization of the system operated by Gionee, this E7 guarantees a long battery life, despite the energetic FullHD display and the non-exaggerated amperage equal to 2500mAh.

Gionee Elife E7 - Conclusion

Ultimately, I can confidently state that today as today you can not ask for more from a 150 euro device like this Gionee Elife E7.

Excellent build quality, performance as a real top of the range and good software optimization, penalized only by the lack of auxiliary LED flash and by a sometimes uncertain lancher, make this device a real deal. Qualcomm SoC Snapdragon 800 it still proves a certainty in terms of consumption and performance, and is still today a preferable alternative to many mediatek chipsets, even if there have been great improvements in this sense in recent times.

I recommend Gionee Elife E7 to all lovers of photography, good music and videogames, although I have to admit that I have many difficulties in finding serious reasons for not recommending this model to all others, by virtue of the convenient current price, greatly lowered than to the list price of the official exit.

I remind you that you can buy Gionee Elif E7 da at around 160 euros with shipping from China.

The Gionee Elife E7 is also available on at the price of 179.99 euro.
