Four big names in the Japanese technology sector are ready to join forces to dive into the market for TV, smartphone, tablet and notebook displays. This is Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi and Panasonic, which are preparing to launch the new company JOLED.
This type of agreement is nothing new for Japanese companies. In 2011 Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi founded JDI (Japan Display Inc), which already produces excellent quality displays for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
As easily understood from the name, the new JOLED will concentrate its forces on developing OLED displays, which allow very deep blacks, reduced energy consumption, and which are also lighter and thinner than LCD panels.
The Japanese companies are well equipped in the creation of quality components for smartphones and tablets, with Sony also concentrated in the photographic sensor industry. Who knows what will be the first device with a display produced by JOLED![Source]
