Zopo ZP998 hands-on and first impressions

Zopo Zp998

Zopo yesterday afternoon finally unveiled his new Zopo ZP998 8-core and Andi, as usual, was present at the event. Fortunately for us he managed to spend some time with this Zopo, we will quote his first impressions.

Zopo ZP998 - Specifications

Before launch, I had my own idea of what this Zopo ZP998 would look like in terms of specifications. I thought it was equipped with the new 6592-core MT8 processor, at least 2GB of RAM, a 5.5-inch Full-HD 1920 × 1080 display and a 5 mega-pixel front camera, but obviously there's more.

The first big surprise was the announcement of a rear sensor from 14 mega-pixel. In fact, the MT6592 8-core processor currently supports sensors up to 16 mega-pixel, but anyway one of 14 with F2.0 opening struck me particularly.
Theoretically, the largest aperture and the highest number of pixels should allow you to make excellent shots even in very adverse light conditions. Unfortunately I had the opportunity to try the Zopo ZP998 inside a very well lit hall so I can not express myself on it, I can confirm instead that the speed of the camera and autofocus are something unique, not comparable to any smartphone Zopo currently on the market.

Other pleasant surprises were the NFC chip and the 5Ghz WIFI.

Zopo ZP998 - Design and sensations

The Zopo ZP998 is set in an all-plastic body and the back has a special coating designed to improve grip, especially when using the smartphone with one hand. We can not figure out if the frame is made of steel, but a small test of flexibility would lead us to say no. The construction quality is further improved compared to the Zopo ZP980 / C2, but still does not reach the levels of some TOP RANGE.

The ZOPO ZP998 dimensions are 151.4 x 76 x 9.1 mm, but if you compare them with those of the current Zopo ZP980 from 5 "(143.3 x 70 x 8.5 mm) you will notice that the new smartphone is not much bigger, despite the display from 5.5 ", the NFC and the bigger battery.

Another positive note was the Design. From this Zopo ZP998 it is clear that Zopo decided to abandon the Samsung style to start creating a personal one.

ROM of the ZOPO ZP998

Another surprise was the update of the Zopo ROM, based on Android 4.2. The operating system includes new "embellishment" options in the App Camera stock, new icons but, more interestingly, commands gesture which can be used with the phone on standby to unlock it and open certain apps.

With the screen locked, for example, by drawing an 'e' with your finger, you open the phone applications (C for Call), "and" start the browser. It is also possible to add other gestures to set other functions.

The Zopo ZP998 in use

With the 8-core Mediatek MT6592 from 1.7Ghz, updated GPU and 2GB of RAM, how could the new ZOPO ZP998 not be "powerful"? All applications seem to be easily managed.

The Apps open quickly, the performance of the camera is perfect, the video playback in FULLHD is super smooth and fast ... We could not do a test of gaming, but from the Antutu scores we can expect that the ZP998 can perfectly support any game!
