The new generation Mediatek processor will use ARM Cortex-A50 cores in 64-bit and Mali GPU!

Mediatel and ARM have signed an agreement that will allow the Taiwanese manufacturer to realize its next SoC with ARM Cortex-A50 core to 64-bit and ARM Mali graphics chips.

The new agreement signed by Mediatek and ARM that will allow the enterprising Taiwanese company to take advantage of the IP core for the ARM Cortex A50 and ARM Mali processors.

ARM Cortex-A57 and A53 technologies, of which Mediatek has rights of use, support the ARMv8-A architecture with 32 and 64 bit execution; the new processors will guarantee better performances to the new Android smartphones and tablets that will remain compatible with the 32 bit system, therefore the producers will only have to update the SoC technology.

Given the imminent commercialization of the 4G and octa-core MT6592 processors, the new samples will presumably arrive on Mediatek devices starting from the second half of the 2014.
